Theoden. Good luck on the huge/maso. Vincible. I just finished a large/maso pacifist game. I did not allow myself warships including transports/combat transports so no invading the minors or any military rushes. It was fun but it was harder since I couldn't take out the minors with alpha strikes to gain a foothold for culture bombing. My point is that we can make it harder/more challenging for ourselves right now if we wish, without Stardock taking a risk of getting anything wrong (like

Thank you Maxtipherous. :)
I came back later and got the survey, so everyone please do the October survey and check the Galactic Civilizations box!!! :D
Thanks. Just to be safe, it might also be wise that all games started on 1.10A be finished on 1.10A before upgrading to the new version. :)
In short a maxed-out cultural starbase takes 12 constructors, which is less effective than building two party palace starbases at 6 constructors each.
Maxtipherous, I read your previous post but I can't recall if that was 1.05 or 1.10. Does that fact that Starbases are now 10 bc/turn in 1.10 (instead of 5 in 1.05) change your calculations? And with party palace and culture max (33% boost) wouldn't that be a total of 7 starbases instead of 6? Please help me with my math. L
Hopefully he will tweak away that 1 IP bug.
I am slowly learning that Influence Points are a new economy on maso and they have some value in both gifting and trading. I hope Stardock does not nerf influence points too much. There are still only about 30 persons regularly playing maso even with the 1.1 score boost combined with a wonderful maso strategy thread and walk-through tutorials. There are ways we maso players can make it more challenging for ourselves tha
The October poll is up. Look in the middle of the page for the link.
When I click on CGW Top 20 Games Poll!!! - October, I still get a 'survey closed'. Am I missing something? Thanks.
Ray. Thanks for the new thread. Good luck with NWN. Vincible. Congrats on the 60k game!!! :CONGRAT:
Wow. Thanks Gerraken. I was wondering when the top 10 would be the masoverse and it looks like it took about 3 weeks since the release of 1.1. It is not only the scoring that drives the pursuit of maso but also a natural progression for players who have played for months and some concern that if we play lower levels we will now trip a "money-flag" and get anomalous scores. I find maso very fun on 1.1 - much more fun than sub-maso levels - so there is still some magic there for many of us. As lon
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on map sizes. I understand better now. :)
Theoden, I also got an anomalous for a crippling, large which is why I have no crippling games on my personal profile list. I sent my saves to Cari and she told me I tripped a money flag. I don't recall having all that much but she implied the game searches at different times for the flag. I interpreted that as meaning you could have not that much money but you may have it *too early in the game*. One of my zero scores was right after colonization ended and I used the same strategies you did. Th
Congrats to Theoden who won his first maso game. Way to go Theoden. :CONGRAT:
I buried this in a very long Empire thread so thought I should ask here. I have read some say medium and large maso are the hardest map sizes. They are harder than small/tiny maso because of the need to build scouts delays tech building and the distance makes it take longer to meet AI (including minors). It also seems the tech cost more bc at bigger maps (communications theory cost about 30 instead of about 26 and universal translator cost closer to 20 but about 11 on tiny small for exa
Theoden, congrats on your maso win. :)
I agree with Ray about culture-bombing. I save my terror star strikes for an end-game strategy if I use them at all so I don't have to build a military to invade a star system to finish off the alien. If the alien is getting to big for his britches, I double check and make sure I have cut off all of his trade routes to other AI by bribing to declare war. By doing that, the big bad AI must trade ONLY with you. Usually relations gradually improve especially when ALL of the AI's trading is
Amusing. I pop over to the GROSS thread to bug them and make a bit of a Holy Grail reference, then come here and find it as a topic. I have to be a junky considering my name. There are those who call me...Tim.
I want a mod for the "Holy hand grenade of Antioch". LOL.
If nobody objects, I will start another thread soon.
Fine with me. Everyone take note of Ray's Maso Tiny Walkthrough on post #1916. But, I think Ray also put that in the strate
The poll is still not open but here is the e-mail address for letters to the editor of CGW Here is my letter to CGW so maybe others can write CGW too. Our goal is to get the attention of CGW so we get more Gal Civ players and all of us benefit. More happy players = more happy developers = Gal Civ 2 = more happy players and happy developers. :D ----------- CGW: I am glad your most recent top 20 games includes Galactic Civilizations (St
Theoden said on a strategy thread:
What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow? What do you mean? An African or European swallow?
I had to go watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail (for about the 30th time). It's your fault Theoden but it is hard to go more than a few months without watching one of the world's funniest (some might say "silliest") movies. LOL. One of my favorites about Gal Civ diplomacy is the "wise-guy" comment from the
Fellowship of the Ring is the first empire to have two admirals. Ray was the first admiral in the entire metaverse and I got my stripes today on a 40k maso large. If vincible plays a lot of tiny maso (for game numbers and points) we may soon have a third admiral. I will only have the 3rd place bronze medal for a short time until Solitar and Jaws submit another game. It took about two weeks of study and dedicated playing to go from large tough to large maso. If anyone wishes help with his/her gam
Thanks for the newsletter and nice photo of the hopping Australian mammal too. :D
Theoden I just finished 6 or 7 tiny/small rare maso games. My advice is to read through the maso thread and also the maso walkthrough thread on the main forum. If there is any way I can help you, please let me know. You can post here or in the maso thread and many of us will support you. Good luck. :) Rick [Message Edited]
Just curious but wouldn't the sensor drones be better for blockade since they have zero maintenance and scouts have 1bc/turn? Or use your scouts to scout and then build the quantity of zero maint ships like sensors or freighters to total 8 or 16 or whatever? On 1.05 constructors have zero maint but on 1.10 they have 1bc/turn. I have never done a blockade but on maso I am learning to be frugal. LOL [Message Edited]
It's one of the options for the minimap view. It's the button next to the "show autopilot" option, under the minimap, if I recall correctly. It shows circles around the settled stars on the minimap, with the size of the circle representing the amount of population on the star system.
Thank you. Oh that view. It can be helpful sometimes to me when I am wondering where to direct a freigher especially on huge & gigantic maps where I tend to get a little lost and disoriented
Try playing non-militarist. You only get the Hero, scouts, & constructors. You get no transports, combats transports, frigates, etc. Win through diplomacy. I play almost all my Gal Civ games this way. After playing a lot a really good military strategy and tactics games, it was either Sid Meier's Civilzation or Alpha Centuri that introduced to me an option to win without conquest. IMO, Gal Civ has developed the diplomacy factors very well. If you want a tactical combat game, there are m
I have subscribed to CGW for many years. Sometimes it is better and sometimes it is too dominated by the ad industry and first-person shooters. I really, really like the hardware section including the ultimate gaming machine and "lean machine" featured each month. It is difficult to keep up with chips, mobos, memory, and video cards that are best for the gamer. If you are looking to build a new gaming maching, CGW is a great place to look for ideas. Now let's remind them we like Gal Civ. :)
