Theoden. Congrats on the gigantic maso. I noticed it was 1.10. Out of curiosity, since you downloaded 1.11, try finishing the game again (your endgamesave) and see what you would get with 1.11. Submit if you like but let us know what you get either way. I am still trying to figure out the scoring changes for 1.11. Thanks. And don't you still have an anomalous score to submit to 1.11? I am curious to see if it will be "un-anomalous" on 1.11. Gigantic is a *very* big map and it takes me d

Bocky You have submitted 6 games over 8 or 9 days. If I got this right, you add up your 6 games and divide the summ by the square root of 6 to get your metaverse score. Evil Steve is right about blocks. I read the blocks are in 31 day increments so they would not apply to you yet. Every month (31 days?) the blocks drop by 10% so that games older than 1 month are worth 90%; games older than 2 months are worth 80%; games older than 3 months are worth 70%; etc. The metav

Interesting . . . I just finished a maso gigantic and hit the 60k cap without researching past the techs that give The Terraformer and Galactic Guide Book and missed a lot of early trade goods and wonders so no need to milk the tech tree on maso gigantic to hit the cap.

Thanks for the comments. This is confusing but fun . . . doubling of score? 44k going to the 60k cap? wowza. It is just a fun game and the metaverse simply adds that "something" other games don't have. We might as well have fun with 1.11 until 1.12 comes out. :) I really like the better explanation in submission of metaverse scores where it now reads: Success = 1 No known errors = 0 It explained what is obvious to some and not so obvious to others. Wonder if someon

OK. I had to do this once . . . for data :D Brad Frogboy posted he slightly bumped the scoring for 1.11 over 1.10 but how much the tweak would change the end game mpts (metaverse points) was unknown. The curiosity was overwhelming. Today, I upgraded to 1.11, loaded my recent 58k mpts, version 1.10, gigantic, maso endgamesave and then refinished the game and resubmitted it. It scored 60k mpts - the cap, which is still there in version 1.11. That is at least in increase in 3 or

I just got December 2003 Computer Gaming World yesterday (in October? LOL). Galactic Civilizations has moved from 19 up to 17 on the CGW Top 20 (page 69 in the mag or check the link in the first post). Thanks to all who voted. There should be more game polling soon. Let's keep Gal Civ in the top 20.

Just finished another gigantic maso - takes me about a week with other things going on. This time I played with default AI morality and followed the advice of Cotal to get an alliance with all 5 major AI. It made the game much easier (no risk of war except with minors) and I ended up with a 58k (even by finishing the tech tree and boosting the military at the end - but I missed out on a lot of tg/wonders early on). I may never hit the cap but the metaverse points one can get playing gigantic mas

Jexal With really hugely populated planets, especially if they are decked out with the planet defense techs, I don't invade. All you need is 5 constructors and 5000 bc to build a terror star and obliterate the star system. So, if I can't culture flip the really big star sytems, I use terror stars. Like transports, terror stars are particulary effective in alpha strikes so the AI can't retaliate. [Message Edited]

Vincible, congrats on all the 60k games. Sounds like I better get used to gifting techs for the new version. Wiley, I enjoyed reading your post. Keep us up-to-date and as Theoden said watch out for the incredible AI - even if it is the Yor. Tackling both an incredible AI and 1.10 version gigantic map for the first time is challenging in both skill and stamina. ;) I didn't get around to playing today on my gigantic maso. It is still early and I am not sure I can win it but I f

LOL. 4 of us answered at about the same time.
i take it the party palace is the cultural opposite of the terror star then?
Party palace is a starbase module. A starbase with a party palace and cultural maximization takes a total of 7 constructors IIRC. These are very effective to culturally "flip" opponents to your culture but they are not mobile. Many find that 4 to 6 of these party palace enhanced starbases in sectors adjacent to an opponent AI are very effecti

The terror star is just a 4 constructor 5000 bc add-on to your generic starbase. Terror stars move one space per turn so one might think of them as (barely) mobile starbases. You can add any module to terror starbases that you like. You can even move resources with terror stars albeit slowly. Have fun :)

Theoden, congrats on your 2nd small maso win and 100k points. You are really rockin'. :CONGRAT: Alex, way to keep submitting those games and prove one can be in the top 25 without submitting maso games. :CONGRAT: Vincible, looks like you got your wish and one IP bribe is changed for the new version. Some of us will need to get a little more creative now or beg for alternative ideas. Depending on how much the IP bribe is changed, ships & tech & cash & reflippable planets may be

There are grades of relationships with an AI like hostile, wary, cool, neutral, friendly, and close (I probably forgot some). You need to have a *close* relationship with the AI to ally. When you have a close relationship and you both have the alliance tech, then there is an option to ally when you chat with the AI. [Message Edited]
