Theoden. It might mean you are too good to play sub-maso :) My advice is to play tiny or small maso until you feel comfortable with the economics and the whole maso trading thing. There are some nice walk-throughs available for tips and the maso strategy thread keeps growing. Learning the maso game style (what works; what doesn't) took me 6 or 7 games. Then you can gradually move up in map size. Medium and Large are different games than Tiny/Small. Gigantic is a different game too. Take your tim
using that nice new diplomacy feature which allows you to see where the ship you are trading for is located.
Wow, I missed something here. Vincible could you explain further? Thanks.
So when you buy a ship, it has to "tie" it to one of YOUR planets. It does this by picking the one thats closest to it.
Oh, I get it now. That's why my PQ 14 planet on the border got all those freighters. Thank you. :)
Mayito Please let us know what you learn. I had a large, crippling get a zero mpts (anomalous) score. I sent it to Cari who found I tripped a money flag very early in the game probably because I was trading tech for cash. I didn't have any mods or use any cheat codes. This makes me think that a good player might thrash the AI so bad at sub-maso levels (especially if s/he trades tech for cash) that one risks tripping the too-much-money flag. I thought having my game score anomalous was a
Theoden. Nice job. If I read your profile right, you just got your high game on maso!!! :CONGRAT: Vincible, maybe we can discuss something like "how to prevent a major from dominating" or something like that in the maso thread. I will wander over to strategy after the main forum run-down. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on freighters. I started a new gigantic maso but with real life and college & pro football on TV :D, I haven't been doing as much Gal Civ lately. It also see
I started to attempt to trade for freighters when I can. A few times I scored freighters right next to trading partners and got the instant trade route, which is very nice. Beside, freighters costs zero to maintain and are great scouts because of range. What I noticed though is that the trade route of the purchased/traded-for freighter never involves my major financial center, Earth. In the past when I built freighters, I had always built them on Earth and tried to send them to a popul
Thanks Cotal for the walk-through and thanks Essex99 and others for tips. I don't know why I never thought of using flipped planets as trade bait. As the famous American cartoon star, Homer Simpson, says, "Doh!!!" LOL.
Interesting. Thank you.
I understand a downgrade for a simple game setting, NEWBS have to start somewhere right? But after you hit Medium and then Challenging what gives? Do the top scorers deal with this as well and how does a 30K posted score get marked? 10K would seem about right, or is MASO the only true system of scoring left?
Version 1.1 is different than 1.05 so make sure you check what version you are playing. In 1.05 the scoring was pretty linear from beginner to maso but in 1.1 there i
So you got to about 60K without being the dominant power? Intersting. Did you get most of the wonders though?
I was never dominant in anything but I did get most of the tg/wonders except for Gal Exhibition, Gal monument, galactic guide book, the terraformer and a few others (various morale boosters, I think). I was able to swap/buy grav accel from a minor. I had a ton of money - over 300,000 bc - until I bought all the terror stars and some starbases. 90% of my income was
Thanks Wild Wombat. I recognize the GCCG in setting up the manufacturing base and social infrastructure. ;)
Do most maso players play with the AI at default morality? I usually play toward good with AI at pure evil but almost lost a game today to the only major AI left, a pure evil Arcean who got nastier as our morality paths diverged. Please share your thoughts. Thanks.
Essex99 No, I didn't try that. Thanks for the tip. Gotta love this thread. LOL.
Theoden. Very nice huge/crippling. Congratulations. Ray. Good to see your post. Vincible. Congrats on the 60k games. I tried a gigantic maso and got a 59k so will have to try again for a 60k sometime. I couldn't finish the tech tree, there was only one pure evil AI left and he was getting nasty since I was pure good, and I lost diplomacy advantage as the AI raced through unambiguous comm and majesty I-III. The AI had me 25 planets to 5 and I got so nervous about the Arceans declaring wa
Draginol and then there is something lords . . . Dark Lords?
kasualkid I apologize. I didn't see this thread was only *gigantic* maso. I just submitted one but had none at the time you started the thread. Doh!!! I am interested in the trend in increased frequency of all sized maso games after 1.1 was released. It appears the number of maso players has tripled or more since 1.1 came out.
It also might work if for some reason you get an anomalous score and have lots of saved games. Go back to a saved game, load it, and retire. If you see 0 mpts, then you know you tripped a flag and that score is anomalous. If there are mpts upon retirement, then the game might still be good to finish and avoid an anomalous score. This tip courtesy of Ray the Wanderer reposted by me. ;)
Well I had killed most of my enemies and controlled all the sectors but it still wouldn't acknowledge that i had the 90% for the cultural vicotry -does it go by total influence accumulated?
If I understand the question correctly, I believe that for a cultural victory, you need to turn the map Terran blue and keep it that way for an entire year (12 months).
To double-check accuracy, you may want to look at the "Difficulties levels revealed" sticky thread by Gerraken to round up the maso players. Like Maxtipherous, I couldn't find my maso games in your thread either.
Oregon, USA, North America, Planet Earth . . . ;)
Different strokes for different folks . . . I like tiny, rare, maso. :)
Brad. Thank you. The new server is fast. :)
BlueSteel. Thank you. Hang in there on maso and good luck. Cotal. Thank you and congrats. Do you play default AI morality?
BlueSteel How in the world do you get everyone to get "close" and ally? I am lucky if I get one major AI to get close and I regularly bribe with IP or scouts or something. My last game I was getting nervous because one dipped to hostile and then barely came back to wary then cool. Whew. LOL. I play good against all pure evil AI so might that spoil the fun? What do you set the AI at, default morality? or something else? Thanks. [Message Edited]
Cotal Congrats on the number one ranking in the metaverse!!! :CONGRAT: Rick
Thanks Theoden. I logged off and on and refreshed but the metaverse listing is still paralyzed and won't acknowledge that I gave it a 70th game. The personal profile and the overlord scores in empire listings update ok. Ohers have this problem too (there is a thread) so I guess it is not just at my end and Stardock will probably fix it soon. That was really smart of you to save that anomalous game. Hope it submits OK on 1.11. Saw a really great movie last night, "Hurricane" a biography
