Hmmm . . . I thought patches were to fix bugs only but maybe my definition is too narrow. These "upgrades" or "expansions" not only fixed bugs but added new features, changed metaverse scoring, and made the AI act differently. Most computer games I bought, you get a slightly buggy CD that you buy retail and then go to the website once for the "patch" to fix the bugs. Then you are on your own. Gal Civ is regularly (about monthly as Geoffrey says) tweaking strategy issues, correc

Thanks Maxti. I first saw that first posted by Ray the Wanderer and I think this is attributable to the Precursor, himself, Brad the Frogboy. It dates back to at least early summer, maybe earlier. There have been some comments as to whether alliance is really 9/10 of conquest or culture is 8/10 or tech is 7/10 but this is a good reference for sure. Thank you.

I understand now. Thank you. I think we are all on the same page. It is just that I start with the lowest morale planets first. If all are 100% morale, I increase taxes until I see the total approval rating at less than 100%. Then I go find the planets that are under 100% (maybe 1 or 2 or 3). Then I build the morale enhancers at the lower morale planets first and save the money for morale enhancers at the 100% morale planets until they are under 100% morale. In other words, if all planets are 10
It can be useful to put morale boosters on planets with 100% morale. If you build morale boosters on planets with 100% morale, it means you can raise taxes. Sometimes by a lot.
Vincible, I am confused. Let's say you have two planets and the morale of planet A is 100 and planet B is 60 at a slider tax rate of 35%. Wouldn't it make more sense to build the entertainment network at planet B to get it to 100% so you can get the population boost or raise taxes further? On plane

Having high general morale boosters and pop growth boosters and setting the spending so morale is at 100 on all the planets early works well for me too. The thought of giving up speed on a large map is a little too much for my tiny brain to grasp right now but maybe I will try the setting Ray discussed on a tiny/small/medium map soon. Thanks for sharing your experience. :)
Now I enjoy a challenge, but this killed the game,
As others have said, don't be afraid to use the autosave and go back and reload. This game is supposed to fun but if you get an event that makes it "un-fun" for you, then reload. It's OK. Have fun and enjoy. This is a truly great game :)

Sorry I missed this earlier. If the Drengins are the big power and you are close, the *easiest* way to win is to ally. If you have alliance victory turned off the game continues and this alliance allows you to put party palaces inside the allie's sectors (in this case the Drengin) and eventually win a military victory. Culuture bombing is fast with about one 253% party palace per AI star system per sector. You may need two party palaces to get the chain reaction going and of course influence sta
I've grown to like the pop growth pick and am now choosing it instead of speed.
Really? Tell us more. I went from a large map to a medium map and dropped speed for PQ, influence, and morale. My ships seemed to move like slugs, especially in the beginning.
Is everyone aware that the continuing payments after death has been changed?
No. I missed that and thanks for the tip. It is good we are all still learning. For those of us who learned on 1.05, it is amazing that there are 51 of the top 100 players now playing maso. Wowza!!! In the "olden days" of 1.05 LOL . . . there was more like a half-dozen maso players. Thanks for the update Gerakken.

Thanks again for the replies. Walldorf Volker, there is another way to add morale boosters to planets. Or we may be saying the same thing. :D The goal is to get all planets at 100% morale to get the population boost. I tend to build most morale boosters on my worst planets because like you said, more than 100% doesn't help. My high PQ planets tend to stay at 100% even without harmony generators, entertainment networks, or multimedia centers until maybe the population is VERY high. The P
I think they're the only minor that says that.
I think they say that with other minors with halloween masks too. I can't quite remember their names but can anyone recall a name like Calor or a name like Venge or Verge or similar? Halloween mask (or an advisor recommending you destroy them) = combat transport ASAP. After you biff them, there is a pop-up that tells you that you have ridded the universe of a terrorist threat (or something close to that). Otherwise,

Congrats to Hermann for winning on maso and thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread. Thanks for sharing this Cypher. I find it interesting.
By the time I'm ready to culture bomb, I could build multiple cultural starbases in a AI's sector without them complaining
How do you do that? Is it because you are allied or because you have such a strong military rating or something else? [Message Edited]

Yes, Theoden. That's the symbol. If anyone goes to talk to a minor and sees a halloween mask, like Fat Bastard uses, don't trust that minor. Extract the maximum cash and send in the combat transports. That's one time that one can't afford to be passive or pacifist. After one has a few planets poisoned, one figures that out. :D

Go to the menu where you can save the game or load a new game and look at the banner at the top. The newest version says 1.11. Or, if you load and hit alternate escape to go back to the desktop, the information bar (where you click to look back at the game window) at the bottom of your desktop will also tell you version 1.11. Hope this helps. :)

I have gotten ddhelp errors before. Most of the time they are not reproduceable. So load up your game and try again. You may be fine after rebooting your operating system and reloading the game. If you keep getting the error, then consider winzipping your save game file and folder to stardock so they can see if there is a bug that needs fixing. Good luck. :)

Sorry if someone already mentioned this but I read that ships in orbit give a higher military rating than ships not in orbit. And, the military rating is more effected by attack factor than defense factor. That is why corvettes in early sub-maso games can really ramp up the military rating. By mid-game and in maso it is better to go for the anti-matter missiles in orbit to ramp up the military rating because they have such a high attack factor.
Is there any advantage to not having a build que free with nothing being built
Yes. If you are building no social improvements then you are not increasing the financial burden of maintenance costs on your empire. Different players prefer different approaches but when money is tight, we all agree that the zero maintenance social builds are most attractive while the social builds with high maintenance costs require careful selection. For example, high planet quality (PQ) p

Andi5000 Some of those random events are really difficult. The fundamentalists can be unstoppable if your morality alignment is not good. You can try the usual things to butter them up like a peace treaty, trade, tech swapping, gifts, and so forth but it may not always work. If those don't work and military is a must, you might try to capture some military starbases, get dreadnought tech, and build lots on anti-matter missles at your planets. This will boost your military ratin

Nice reply Cypher. What a nice forum. :) Just to add a little . . . 9) Try to capture as many resources as possible by building starbases on them but do this later in the game when you can afford the 10 bc per turn starbase maintenace fee. When the AI wars against each other and destroys resource starbases, it often helps to have a nearby constructor swoop in and claim that resource for your own. Some of us think some resources are more valuable than others and it depends on pl

Hmmm . . . maybe I said that wrong. If you focus on taking out all the majors, then surviving minors don't really matter. But, I suppose, if a minor takes you out then you lose huh? I mostly take out the terrorists (venge? calor? dmer? - the ones with halloween masks), prepare for the draginol, and really don't have experience with dark lords. But Scotty has always seemed pretty harmless. [Message Edited]

Wow, that is quite impressive. I am always nice to the I-League and they are nice to me . . . except once. That time I allied with all the majors and spent the rest of the game bribing the majors to wack the I-League while bribing the I-League to not beat me up. LOL. [Message Edited]
