Celeborne I am confused. When the game went to allied victory, what was going on? Did you have allies or a victory? :D Did you have the allied victory condition on? Is that where the bug is? I always play with the allied victory condition off but then I always try to ally so I don't get beat up. Recently I had all 5 major AI and all 4 minor AI allied but since the allied victory condition was off, I was able to play for a military victory. So, I think if you turn off t

Hi Cotal Ginata Glad you are playing again. When you are maxing points from a huge maso do you still try to ally? I played most of my games as good against all pure evil AI until nearly getting whipped because I "got good too fast" or someting and the Drengin wanted my hide in spite of my best diplomatic efforts. I had to use a terror star rush just to win, which is not very elegant. LOL. I am still experimenting but it seems like I lose the close relationship with th
Hey wombie. You are getting mighty close to fleet admiral and I bet you are next. Good luck. :)
EBZ posted a preliminary strategy thread on post #1106 of the GROSS thread on 7/3/03 that is probably still there. His Gal Civ Cranking Guide was more sophisticated but is no longer on the site. I downloaded it on August 14 so that gives you some time frame. It was for cranking out (speed) on beginner games. The anomalous scores for bankrupting the AI at low difficulty levels and the recent scoring upgrade for maso put a damper on certain parts of the GCCG but other parts remain very useful.
Cypher If you have 8 to 10 yellows early and are not under alien culture influence on a rare gigantic maso, you should have a fine start. Watch out for the yellow adjacent to an alien star because the culutural influence early in the game is definitely in favor of the AI and you might get flipped while your population is still low. I don't compete with the AI for these "border" yellow stars early on. I just finished a huge maso where I started with 4 yellows and it worked out f
I also saw the AI on maso build terror stars and it did get my attention at first. But they never actually used the terror stars they made. So like Ray says, the AI may be unable to use terror stars. My use of terror stars is rare now except when something goes bad and I fear pending defeat (bad starts gone worse, bad random events, etc.). Terror stars can be a good way to snatch a victory from an otherwise lost cause. Sometimes they speed up the inevitable because it is easier
For those who want to play maso and like hints and walk-throughs here are some recommendations to check out: 1. "New Number One Thread": See #9 by Cotal aka Amidala aka Cupid and #18 by Essex99 around 10/11/2003 2. "Maso Strategy with no military thread": See #8 by Wild Wombat from 10/11 3. "Fellowship of the Ring Empire Thread" See #1916 by Ray the Wanderer from 9/22. I think Ray reposted this in the big maso thread here in the strategy section. 4. "A Small M
Hi Jexal What difficulty level are you playing? You can win this one but it may take longer and you might not be so dominant therefore the metaverse points might be lower. Big deal. Just have fun. :D Colonize the yellows that you can while you send out your Hero survey ship to contact aliens. If there are AI near, then maybe build a scout. Try to establish contact with the other AI soon so you can start trading. After you finish colonizing, then start research
Getting a gigantic, military, maso to net 60k is easier on 1.11 than 1.10. You don't even need to finish the tech tree on 1.11. I have never heard of any other person getting 60k on a game smaller than maso that was started, finished, and submitted in the same version. A few have a 60k metaverse score from resubmitting a large or huge 1.10 game on 1.11. Please correct me if I am overlooked something recently. On the current huge maso military victory, I get 50k if I don't rese
citalhellion; thanks. In my current huge maso game only the Alexians ( . . .uh the late Alexians) traded cash. By the time we figure this out, the next version will be released. :D
HI greenfox As Theoden described, if you give one influence point to the aliens (major or minor), the relationship often improves, for example from neutral to warm. PontiusBruinPilate has described giving IP about every 3 turns to keep the AI happy. Some feel this is a bug because the value of one IP is low. Theoden thinks this might be like "sending flowers" to the opponent AI and I like to think of it as a state dinner - not expensive but the attempt to be friendly is made. Others fee
I am in between football games while my digital video recorder records the next game. Man, my Seattle Seahawks dropped passes and got penalties until they mercifully lost. Don't shed tears, I saw some great games yesterday and there is still more on today and tomorrow. :D I just read the Jedi Republic Thread after not looking at it for a week. I had already caught up on the ANZAC thread after Cotal left that empire and ANZAC is no more although BlueSteel/Smeagol is our guest as long as
In my last game, a huge rare maso, the Alexians and Scottilingas both traded cash when they had it (like the beginning). Neither the Carinoids or Kwilasians (who convert eventually to I-League every game) gave me more than 2 bc over 20 turns. On another huge map the Alexians and Carinoids traded cash a few times until they went broke. So it seems one or two minors trade cash most of the time and the most likely are the Alexians. I just figured this out for maso a few games ago too. And to think
Cleared the bar for FA with exactly 80 games and a personal profile of 352k so the 80 game / 350k mark seems accurate. The huge maso is a nice size map. Can't believe Cotal/Amidala split. Thought something was broken or wrongly displayed at first. Never a shortage for Theoden to write about is there? :D We are closer to 3 million but it is football time now. Talk to everyone later. :)
Hi Alex I barely cleared the bar for FA with exactly 80 games and a personal profile of 352k. In my last game, I played a huge to barely make the FA cutoff. So your previous statement of 80 games and a pp of 350k still looks accurate to me.
Thanks for the explanation. I thought something was broken on the metaverse listing. Wow, what an exit - leaving when number one. Bye Cotal/Amidala if you read this. You are a great Gal Civ player. Thanks for the gameplay tips. :)
The VR center is 5 bc per turn for 20% morale. The combat transport is 6 bc per turn for taking 5 million people off the planet. If you need the combat transport, then building it on the lowest morale planet seems best. I play "no military" so rarely make combat transports (well every few games to take out a terrorist like Dmer or to speed up a culture bomb game near the end). Thanks for the input. :)
Is there any logical reason why we have BOTH metaverse scoring and personal profile scoring? It would be easier if we just had both decays running at the same rate. Either 5 or 10% would seem to work but why both? Duh, . . . it just seems one score is less complicated than two. What great mystery am I missing here?
DRavisher There are lots of helpful folks on this forum who helped to teach me how to play too so thanks to everyone. As higher levels the minors are relatively less powerful than the majors but the military ranking is all over the place in my experience. For example, in maso, the majors won't trade cash for tech but new minors do. The "old minors" (minors classic?) like Alexians, Carinoids, Scottlingas, Kwilasians (that turn into the I-League)are there at the start of Gigantic
Whoops. I said version 1.12 and I meant version 1.11. You know the one where the minor takes planets in the next sector? The minors in 1.10 and earlier would stay put in one sector but those same minors in 1.11 can move into an adjacent sector now and take away that nearby yellow star you yearned for. :D Sorry about any confusion. :)
I was just noticing the team score on the metaverse is the summ of the team's personal profile scores (not metaverse overall scores). Is that correct? The metaverse overall score sure seems inflated compared to personal profile scores. This is presumably due the different rate of block decay? Congrats to the FotR for 2.8 million but my small maso with a score of 29k only added about 1600 (1.6k) to my overall score, which means I probably added "hundreds" for the team. Doh!!! L
the big primary issue of the AI's absolute helplessness against a cultural assault.
Oh, I don't know, on maso one has to stay alive long enough to launch the party palaces. ;)
DRavisher The minors have to be accounted for especially in version 1.12. My approach is to be nice, trade with them a lot, and watch your relations improve. Minors usually give you better deals than majors and are usually more useful alive and trading tech or, at sub-masochistic levels, trading cash for tech or trade goods. In other words don't go to war. If you must go to war, make it quick. Most regular players who use war as policy will launch an alpha strike where you hit
Heeeeeeeeeeeee's back!!! Welcome back Ray. Time for hobbits to party. The organic vegetarian pizza and spring water are on me today. :CONGRAT: With Ray back and Theoden in the top 25, life is good for the inhabitants of middle earth. Onward to 3 million. :D
I think snooks is a rather nice name . . . the warm and cuddly side of "Evil Steve" - just like a big snuggly Drengin who is offering a virtual hug when you provide that tech he seeks. :D
