Very clever. :)

Very nice Sirian. Thank you. :)
Well now that Ray, Vincible, and Theoden have admitted it, I guess it is OK to admit that I also have been taking a break from Gal Civ. In addition to the real life busy things, I am mostly watching football games and movies and playing spades (card game) online. Wow! The Blues Brothers is a great movie (made around 1980?). Check it out. :D After 82 posted games, fleet admiral, a few 60k games, and the Fellowship reaching 3 million points, I am having trouble convincing myself to start
It is good to see you posting & playing. Thanks for the tips. :)
Theoden You might think of firing up some terror stars before you run out of gifts for the Arceans. I did a 25 terror star alpha strike once when the game was going down the toilet. The score wasn't so hot but I won and it was rather fun too. :)
The bar graph displays where maso points increased and corresponds to a new version of Gal Civ. I think for most of us it was 1.10 and for those on Drengin.net it was 1.092 (or close). This is where the maso scoring bump happened and where many of us decided we needed to learn maso. I knew more people were playing maso and the scores were higher but the statistics are very impressive. Thanks idle. [Message Edited]
OK, back to the seriousness of playing. ;p I never seem to get dominant economically until I start culture flipping but maybe that is lack of military or "fear of flipping". I don't spread out much in the beginning - almost always colonizing only within my initial range of colony ships. [insert chicken sound here]. LOL.
Relatively speaking I haven't been playing maso that long compared to others here, but I have played a lot of games I guess.
Isn't this something like a NASCAR driver saying, "Sometimes I drive a little fast". LOL. Cotal Ginata, you are the pacesetter and thanks again for helping me learn new ways to play so it stays fun. Vincible, thanks for replying to my question in the 60k thread. Ray, thanks for your presence back on the forum. The forum a
While we are on the tech tree subject, has anyone ever found the tech called "smuggling". On one diagram it is supposed to follow trade. I figured it was an evil tech but I have gone down to zero morality and never found it. Thanks.
Just click the planet details to see for yourself. There is a line which states the planet maintenance.PQ14s don't incur any.
Thanks Ray. You never stop being a source of information. And, from another post, you got me to read the FAQ from our own empire too. LOL. Glad you came back to the forums after your military duty. We missed you. :)
IIRC, you play non-militaristic, like me. I don't know if it is because you can't go toe to toe with the AI,
I agree with vinicible. There are many different ways to win (or lose) at maso. Maso can still clobber me big time after more than a dozen wins. And, if it was so easy to play maso then everyone would be playing maso instead of mostly the top 50 or so in the metaverse. Until that happens, I am reluctant to criticize the game structure, which Frogboy has stated is geared toward the average player and not the top few percent. Instead I am thankful for the help I received from the wonderfu
kasualkid I play rare maso tight clusters too. In the huge I am playing now, I started with 4 yellow stars. And, two of those were due to my +1 speed bonus barely beating the Torians to one and Carinoids to another. I consider 4 an OK start - not great. After I met all the other AI, I was in 4th place for planet number behind the Drengins, Arcean, and Yor (they had 6 or 7 each) but ahead of Altarians and Torians (they had 2 each). The I-League recently had 3 and the other minors had 1 o
Vincible, I asked you a question on the "How to score 60,000" thread. Thanks.
Vincible. Does setting all the AI to pure evil still give a better mpts total than the stock morality? I haven't checked this since 1.05 when setting all the AI to pure evil instead of stock settings added about 2k on a 10k game (total 12k).
Playing a huge maso now that I will finish this weekend between football games. This was strange. I put all AI at pure evil and then got evil too with planet events and random pop-ups. At a morality of 9, I just could not get the Arceans close in spite of 100% of their trade being with me. The other majors were close. In the minor department, the Cari and Scott were close but the I-League was only friendly. The Alexians were history. :( So, to snuggle up to the Arceans I went e
Cotal Ginata. Thanks for the thoughtful response. It was very nice of you to put it on the FotR thread so I would find it. But, I could have come over here too because it's only a short distance to your empire's thread. Wonder how close anyone can get the huge/maso to 60k? Thanks again. :D
Here is one reason it is fun to play evil with all pure evil opponents. At the time I was morality 19 and the AIs were all demonic. The Torians dropped in to say: "We are both evil. We understand that. But the Drengin Empire . . . well they are not evil. And that's a problem for us. They are a threat to our torture-loving ways. We must act together to ensure that the galaxy is filled with misery and pain as it should be." Well since the Drengin were demonic, it was a little con
Congrats to the FotR for 3 million. Theoden, you downplay your large maso win of 32k but that is really good. Remember those days not too long ago when the cap was 30k? How soon we forget. LOL. Cotal Ginata - thank you for the very helpful response . . . and on my own empire's thread. Wow!!! Now that's service. :D Sirian, we all need to play Gal Civ in the way that is most fun for us. If we all have fun, we play more, recruit others to buy Gal Civ, and might just keep
Valamir thanks. I couldn't figure out why Gal Civ was no longer listed until you mentioned the 6 months rule. Oh well, it was good while it lasted and folks can still email their favorite gaming mag or site. I hope Gal Civ gets some votes as strategy game of the year or something. If anyone has any idea how to promote this, let me know where to write. Thanks :) [Message Edited]
OK, I went to the game and looked it up. Constructor 1 builds the generic starbase Constructor 2 builds (under military) terror-star shell Constructor 3 builds terror-star bridge Constructor 4 builds terror-star core Consturctor 5 builds terror-star and costs 5000 bc. And then you have one silver basketball-sized bon-bon. LOL.
What a post by Sirian. Nice job. :D
Just for kicks, I went to refrigerator, found the cheese, and refished last game. LOL. Hey it's just for fun. ;) By getting two desirable colony events through the one passenger colonizing a poor pq planet, I was able to go from 77 morality to 97. Then I researched 3 goody (hypertrade, better way, and gal pacifism?)techs, build the trade monument and trade centers. That made the score go from about 52.9k to 53k. Actually it seemed like a lot of work for 100 points but it satisfied my cu
Theoden. Way to go. That large maso may push us over 3 million. I have to overcome inertia and start a new game. I think it will be a huge maso rare with all pure evil AI. Hope I don't have to run up the white flag. ;) Mayito, do you have to recruit on our own FotR thread? I mean . . . puh-leaze!!! Might it be possible to give it a rest in the mellow surroudings of Middle Earth? Thank you. :) Smeagol do whatever makes you happy. Even if you leave, you will be welcome back here
It only takes 5 constructors to build a terror star. I can't remember the actual names but they are all under the military module tab. Hmmm... first is the starbase, two allows you to actually see the partially built structure, then you add the third and fourth constructors until you finally get to constuctor 5, which is where you get the pop-up asking you if you really want to do this and it will cost 5000 bc. If you hit yes, you have that big silver basketball - or your bon-bon :) - t
Sirian If you have questions about the metaverse, this thread is a safe place to ask. Ray and vincible are the experts and won't bite. The metaverse recently dubbed the "masoverse" by some is many different things to different people. To me, the front page or two or top 100 is kind of an honor roll of dedicated (obsessed? :D) players but won't tell you who is "the best". That's especially true since there is a 60k cap that even I can hit on the latest version. So, if I had eno
