Hurley, Sounds like we have similiar professional interests, I'm a system architect by trade. I'm burned out because I decided to play developer this week. I would rank the AIs in difficulty: 1. Altarian 2. Arcean 3. Torian 4. Drendin 5. Yor The Yor are so useless, that they are almost always the first major off the map and frequently don't even manage to outlast the minors. I typically play with the Yor at one higher level of intelligence than the typical AI for the game I'm playing. It still doesn't help them that much... At the end of my last medium game, I had a survey ship with an attack of 48! Frequently, I can have a survery ship with an ATT of 10 or 11 by the time Frigates are out. As a pirate, I do concentrate on developing the survey ship. I once took out ships for all 4 Yor systems with a survey ship eliminating them before the first star fighters came on line. Guys, You're welcome to join GROSS. You're already friends with my wife... ;) When we talked about theme v. regional a while back, the only empire I could see us merging with was... ANZAC. I tend to get a score of 4k to 6k for a quick win on a small map. That's not particularly good, but those are a couple of games there that I didn't play long enough to produce a Frigate. On a small map, you can make a survey ship rush if you find power ups quickly... :D

Before I turned off Culture Victory, I used them to ensure I was never at peace for 12 turns. LOL I actually think Culture Victory is a good idea, but it usually takes the fun out of the game as I am usually just ready to smash the other majors when it kicks in. It seems like it's easier to trade during an alliance, but that may be a side effect of good relations.
