My last two games have been pure evil. My alignment should flip from nuetral soon I would think.... I think we really are the only evil-themed empire. You sort of have to make light of it on the forums as you really can't go much past Kentucky Fried Drendin and Arcean Ribs without sounding like a complete sicko. Plus, I thought the evil thing was always sort of tongue in cheek. After all, G.R.O.S.S. is a Calvin and Hobbes reference. Anyway, I wish you well Gibbie - as long a

That sounds like a description of G.R.O.S.S. to me, except we're not as friendly about it. ;) Have you considered a group of adventurers like the League of Extraordinary Adventurers? Where you pick a famous literary character? I'm at least glad to see another sci-fiction theme. Good luck! -Cypher

CypherPax stood in the massive hanger of the survey ship of Doom surrounded by a bunch of school children, Mid-Western school children. Cypher had thought the request was unusual, but the decent folk of the MWC had been interested in the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie and wanted their kids to experience the thrill of being on a space pirate vessel. A wholesome toe-headed boy of 10 in suspenders, asked ‘Why do they call this the Survey Ship of Doom? It’s not a Survey Ship at all.’<

I can't recouncil this will the scoring algorithm, but it seems to me that when I submit a game dramatically over my average by score goes up by a large margin. When I submitted by last game at 11k, my score went up by over 9,000 points to nearly 30,000. It did not make any sense. I had written off the large rise after my previous 10K game to not having submitted many games. Staff's last game was a monster over 19k. I wonder if he got the same type of benefit. (or if this be

Mrs. Pax arrived at the Freedom Force headquarters. It didn’t look like much, but she knew that if she could reclaim her credit card she could make it look really nice. She walked in through the employee only entrance and notices a help wanted sign above the bar. Mrs. Pax had been a bartender all through college and still picked up a shift once in a while for fun. She also noticed Drop Bear's holo in the Officer's Gallery and had an idea. She inquired about the position and

Mrs. Pax stormed down to the dock where the Waltzing Matilda was docked. Her anger was such that she was aboard before she realized that while the systems were functional, the ship had been abandoned. Mrs. Pax wondered if the members of ANZAC were out. Then she noticed the clutter, these boys were NOT neat. She decided to pick up after them to see if anyone would returned. Hanging in a bunkroom, she noticed a Freedom Force recruitment poster, but did not recognize the signif

Barry, There is a good reason and a bad reason you don't see many losses. The good reason is that probably a lot of games that will be losses do not get finished... people quit when it's obviously a lost cause. I had a game where I was 62 turns from Battleship and Drendin battleships outnumbered my Frigates. I was in debt, they had tons of money. They declared war on me and I elected not to play it out. The bad reason is that the Metaverse will punish you for your losses.

Cypher had a long night. No sooner did he get below decks of the survey ship to check on the disturbance, but a much larger disturbance arose from the Officer's Lounge. Staffa was not retiring, he was simply baiting Pontius and Ray - giving them each a taste of #1 only to deliver a crushing blow against the aliens and then delivering an even more daunting challenge of trying to beat him to 100K. The assembly in the Officer Lounge was in shock and then panic started to set in.

ThelebK, I think we just played the same game. I finished with a tech victory for 4,500 points. The cutscene is really cool, but the score isn't. I then reloaded a few turns earlier and won about 9 turns before Final Frontier with a Military Conquest -- 11,250 points. I submitted the Military Conquest game, even though it's the first time I made it through the tech tree. I don't know I'd go for a tech victory unless it's the only way I can win. I really don't c

CypherPax stood in the Officer’s Lounge on the survey ship of DOOM. He stood misty eyed as he watched the holovids of the victories of the legendary Staffa. It was a bitter sweet occasion as the greatest general ever to sail the stars of the metaverse had retired and his captain, Pontius, and the great and powerful wizard, Ray the Wanderer battled it out for the mantle of Overlord of the Galaxy. CypherPax hoped that Staffa’s retirement would be as brief as the great 20th century basketball pl

CypherPax labored in the lab way into the early hours of the morning. He knew the effort would be worth it, even though the he felt a pang of guilt at missing the evening festivities. It was no matter, soon he would have a solved many of the problems facing his empire. His first invention was the most practical. He made the final adjustments to the manure sensor. This powerful sensor could detect even trace amount of animal feces. The G.R.O.S.S survey ship had these sensors install

Wow! I didn't think I'd get this many replies. Thank you to everyone who replied. I didn't get a chance to try out Spellcross, but I definitely will. I have an older computer that can handle most of the older titles, so I'm hoping I'll be okay. I'm also excited about the prospects of UFO: Aftermath. From the links, it sounds very promising. I have played Jagged Alliance 2 and I agree it's a great game -- I was single back when it was released and had a LOT more time for ga

In the 90's, there were a couple of great X-COM turn-based combat games. They had a great story, great game play, and even an interesting research tree. I think they were fairly popular, but the third installment sort of ruined it for me - and then they tried a space flight simulator that ended the franchise. Since there, I've been looking for a similiar game. I only play 1-2 games a year so I haven't been looking very hard, but I figured people here might be familiar with a similiar

Arghhh.... time to abandon ship, mateys. The AI finally got me, though I don't have the heart to play this one out. Previously, I had never lost a system, but the Crippling Small game I'm playing finally got me... It started out okay as I crushed the Yor, Altarians, Torians, and Alexians. Now I have 7 systems, the Drendin have 8, and the Arceans 2. The Drendin have declaired war on me with more Frigates/Battlecrusiers than I have. The kicker is that they also have 3 battleships an

Great new logo and name, Master Jedi! It looks like our pirate crew has resisted the old Jedi mind tricks when you asked us join you in a confederation, but at the rate at which you're growing you may catch us in a month on your own. May the force be with you, Cypher

First of all, I'm glad we're not dissolving GROSS. I enjoy being in a #1 empire (and in the six weeks I've been aboard there are at least 3 times we weren't number 1), but I'd rather be working to retake #1 than lose our identity. I've heard some good ideas about competition. I like the GOTM idea. I'd also be in favor of a loose alliance on the forum. The some of other empires could always form a confederation without us. That would give us a run for the money and they could even e

I vote for ending the war with the Republic. They should give us the Mos Eisely Cantina as our new embassy.... and as tribute they need to keep in stocked. (I'm thinking that should cost about 150 BC for 100 months.) Would a confederation of themes be an empire or a forum construct? I'd hate to lose our identity as GROSS, though I could see the benefits of a Fellowship / Empire merger as a manner of strengthening the themed empires (and giving us a run for the money). I think someo
