Sometimes I can get alien races up to 'friendly', and then even if I give them tons and tons of ships, tech, etc -for the hell of it I even tried giving lots of good planets and starbases, it still didn't help- I won't see 'alliance' pop up on the diplomacy screen and they never become 'close.' And yes, I am trading with them. In this one game the race in question is my exclusive trading partner.

Thanks everyone.
Poked around where? BE SPECIFIC! AHHH! !
About luck... its 25%... great... 25% OF WHAT?! 25% of zero is very different from 25% of infinity. :D. And what if you pick the luck attribute and the Universalists? Does it really help that much? oh and LOL @ Cotal ;D.
What if you get an alliance with everyone, but in order to get that last alliance, you gave an alien race all of your planets?
I was whooping the computer on normal, so I decided to up the AI to 'bright.' Now I feel like a paraplegic in a game of musical chairs. Even if I tech rush to stellar cartography I never seem to get very many planets. It seems like every one that I go to has someone already there babbling at me in some alien tounge. Likewise if I scout out and pump out colonies. What the hell am I supposed to do o_O?
Ever hear of cyber sex ;P? Which brings to mind moo2 and moo3. How in the name of sweet smelly underpants did a 'diplomatic marriage' work? For that matter, how did races spy on one another? Wouldn't the -high gravity world, land dwelling- Bulrathi notice the -thin, frail, low gravity aquatic world,- Aquilarian in their midst? Did they use robots, or some sort of super advanced artifical organism? But they can spy right off the bat, long before they get any technology
Oh come on guys, don't be so naive. Throughout history, the soldiers of occupying armies have always gotten busy with the local ladies. Thus, a population explosion results. Simple. ;).
Whats control-n do?
Elf: Thank you, I appreciate it greatly. Rob: Likewise, thanks. Bruin: Uhm. thanks, but ... no thanks :P. I did kinda figure that would solve my problem, but buying a new video card to fix a bug that may or may not be fixable by other means is just kinda... o_O.
Then again I suppose thats one way of preventing players from stopping production on all but one planet, then making that planet build a trade good and jacking up the 'social' resource bar.
OMFG! THATS *EVIL*! I'LL NEVER STOP BUILDING AGAIN!
My question is, lets say I put 100 percent of my income into 'social', but only one out of my ten colonies is actually making a building. Does that mean 100 percent of my income is going into the construction of that building -and thus it would be built relatively fast- or does it mean that 90 percent of my income is being wasted?
Autoexplore. Multiplayer. An explaination for -or at leats some elaboration on- the Altaran mystery. Hmm, maybe ship customization ;D? Or more ships that have their own seperate techs -meaning you'd have to choose between them, thus adding some uniqueness to each individual's fleet.- Strike bombers or the like, so that ultra heavy ships are not the final word in space combat.
Boni! I like that word. I'm going to print that out and hang it on my wall. *ahem* That said, the influence bonus doesn't seem to be worth it now that I have tried it a few times- if you aren't right next to a system you want to capture, all you get is a lot of voting power, and that sure as hell didn't save me when the Torians came with their frigates and steamrolled the bejesus out of my poor battle axes.
RayChua- ya, thanks for reminding me. I had forgotten about that. To fsk- theres a windowed mode o_O?
The point is they are random events, that have a not-so-random effect *I almost always get teleported to someplace nearby, and most of the time its to a place I've already been to :P. Go figure.* As for gauging if its a good trade or not- the computer does not give good trades. It simply doesn't happen. You either TAKE it, or you don't get it cheaply.
Bah, you got what you deserved for keeping the people under your yoke to the point where they revolted ;D. Seriously though, I've found that once you get into the 'debt death spiral' its time to start a new game, or at least go back to an autosave, cuz at the very least it slows you down quite a bit.
I thought earth didn't HAVE a stargate... hmm... must reread backstory.
Well at least you don't have to put up with tantalizing glimpses of them- MY cutscenes play, but all choppy. Strangely, the starting and ending movies DO NOT chop. Wierd o_O.
To desert fox; hundreds of starbases IN EACH SECTOR? Where are you getting all this money from :P? I thought that diminishing returns was implemented for starbase benefits...
Well, nobody loves you, for one... Oh and there are of course the individual bonuses/negatives that come with the event choices.
I have *NEVER* had an enemy colony flip over to me due to influence, so can someone please tell me how easy -or difficult- it is to get that to happen? Is it a viable primary strategy? How about secondary?
I just did. Tech victory took priority. What a gyp. No explosion, no catacylsmic error, no nothing. :D.
Say, reserach on the final tech is going to be finished 'next month', and then you go to the diplomacy screen and make an alliance with the last alien race. Does your computer explode? Does it cause some sort of immovible-object-hit-by-an-unstoppable-object catastrophic reaction?
