Laughing out loud, [quote]I'm going to script you into our MMORPG as a battle-song singing warrior monk.[/quote] You hit the nail on the head, but mostly I do epic instrumentals, due to a deep voice. LOL
Miles Naismith
Devolping a eager thirst for ale I left the inn to go back to the tavern. In the city streets I was accosted by a stranger who said he knew me. "What's my name then," said I. "Naismith," replied the man dressed as a man of imperial attire of the kingdom G.R.O.S.S. "What do you want of me?" I inquired. "I know who you are and we're watching you. Watch your step," said the stranger. "Be gone," stated I evenly, "I don't need any trouble for meself." Haunted by me past w
Name: Miles Naismith nee Vorkosigan Class: Dual class-- 2 levels Monk, 4 levels Bard Alignment: Lawful Nuetral 'Twas a dark and stormy night at the tavern, and I found meself looking down into me ale mug wondering what 'twas next for me. Betwixt and between was I, neither here nor there in any adventure party. A white-robed cowled figure strode up to me table just then as if appearing by magic, and said "I am Ray aka 'The Wanderer'. Ye look to be just the type
I used to play AD&D and have played Baldur's Gate so I know about RPG, but what massively multiplayer computer game are you guys talking about? Is Galciv considered MMORPG? I don't know what to think of you G.R.O.S.S. peeps, but thanks for the welcoming Vincible and Ray. :) [Message Edited]
Well, I'm the newest member of the Fellowship, and it's good to belong to such a fine empire such as this. I will play as much as I can to keep the ratings up while still having some semblance of a life outside of the game. Ah the real world conflicts with my entertainment... my nephew visits and plays the game too, so I have to compete for my own computer sometimes. (:( For those of you who don't recognize my name, it's from a Lois McMaster Bujold military scifi book series about
I'd love to join your empire. I just follow the link at the beginning of the fellowship thread right? Thanks for the invite. :D I'll have to look for a post on how to find empire ratings. [Message Edited]
[quote]They weren't allies nor did they culturally rebel so perhaps not a good example for our discussion.[/quote] Thanks Ray for correcting my uninformed statement. :) I'm really not up on global politics as maybe I should be. Your knowledge is immense and I am truly impressed now as I have been about your game knowledge in the past. I guess I was just suggesting a possibility of secession for civs due to low influence at a star system which you would have to quash milit
Technician, you made a good case, especially in light of the fact that this game was designed to simulate earth-like civilization history (at least I think I remember reading something like that somewhere). Taiwan culturally rebelled against china (i think), so maybe if your influence (at any given star system) gets too low maybe your systems should defect to turn into minor races (or their own civs at least) :notsure: [Message Edited]
I feel that allies are working together and cultural flipping is a hostile (threatening at least) act, so IMHO allies should be protected from each other's influence . I guess you could build cultural starbases in defense but that would be a hassle, and also lessen the power of the alliance since your production is going towards staving off your ally's influence. Maybe having to worry about your ally's influence makes the game more challenging and thus more interesting. I wo
It seems to me that cultural conquering via starbases could be made easier. Cultural conquest gets tedious, and managing all the constructors gets burdensome, so what I propose is that there be some option to opt to automatically have the game attract the closest constructors to a given starbase with orders to automatically do maximum upgrading in a certain category (say cultural in this instance). This would only be an option selected, let's say, when you bring up starbase info pop up.<b
"influence is computed recursively - when you reload, influence resets excepts for those with stars in them" Good thing I know what recursively means... but not sure how it actually works. Anyway, you still lose out on culture checks for a few turns. :( [Message Edited]
I don't know if this is a bug or not, but here goes... I'm currently doing cultural conquest in a large galaxy, and I had to reload from auto save (which I have set to save every three turns). I had a one maxed out cultural starbase +193% and one other which I was building up. Before the auto save reload I had owned that sector which is a couple of sectors away from my planets. When I did the reload of my game, it reset influence of the sectors and I had 0 in that sector for me compar
Gerakken: Thanks for explaining that. PQ bonuses make more sense now that I can do the calculation. ;) Galaxor: Gerakken explained everything. The calc is simple: suppose PQ 19 planet with 5% bonus pick and both soil and habitat improvement, then the total bonus is +25, so the math goes like this for example: PQ 19 x 1.25 = 23.75, but then drop the decimal part to get a result of 23. If it were the same PQ with only soil enrichment and 5
I could be wrong in the above post, as I was just doing some more calcs to verify the table in the link kindly posted above. My formula must be wrong or something. :notsure: I'm doing PQ 15 x 1.1 x 1.1 = 18 and that comes out correct for hab improvement, but when I do PQ 19 x 1.1 x 1.1 X 1.05 = 24 for hab improvement with 5% bonus pick and it doesn't match the table value of 23. Well, I guess I'll just find a way to cut and paste that table and print it out for reference. At a
It looks like the fractional part of PQ is only dropped at the end of the calc. I thought it was dropped after each bonus adjustment. I must have been smokin' oisatsana :D Thanks for the info :)
No, I think my reasoning was faulty now. I was assuming a base range of 20 and you would get 10% of 20 for an improvement of 2. But that's not how it is. Say you colonize a pq 15 planet and then build soil enhancement, you would then get a benefit of 10% of 15 = 1.5 which most likely gets rounded down to 1. Then say you build habitat improvement for another benefit of 10% = 1.6 which again probably gets rounded down. hmmmm.... too bad the decimals don't carry over and become cumulative....s
okay, another newbie question... On a 20 point base planet quality system (I know it goes higher than 20, but the manual only shows from 1 to 20), 10% improvement equals a jump of 2 points in PQ, but when I build soil improvement and habitat improvement, each raises the PQ by 1 point. For some reason I don't seem to grasp the math behind that. Can anyone explain the calculation involved? [Message Edited] [Message Edited]
I would like to see more diplomacy options. Don't get me wrong, I think it's already great, but I just want to be able to do more things such as threatening war to demand the civ make peace or to get tribute. :) [Message Edited]
I am running 1.05.071 and the Arceans surrendered to me and I got all their planets. I looked at the planets they had given me and they were producing frigates (technology which wasn't available to me). Is this a bug or are surrendered planets supposed to keep producing despite my technology. And also since they surrendered wasn't I supposed to get all their tech too. I don't kknow if this is a bug or if it has previously been mentioned (I don't have time to read through all 300+ r
Never mind about the above two posts. I think it will be more fun to figure this game out on my own. :)
In the above post I am talking about large and smaller universes. ;)
"My biggest strength is early expansion and I tend to grab a very large chunk of the universe, this massive size seems to have an intimidating effect." If you set up your game totally for expansion, what if things get stacked against you and you don't get a large chunk of the planets due to there not being many habitable planets within range? And how do you stay up militarily, economically, tecnologically and culturally while doing this? It seems as though the AI is much be
I've been stepping up to normal diffculty and it sems like now all the civs gang up on me no matter what my alignment. I give presents and other tribute but they still hate me. Anyone got any suggestions?
Well, I've played some more and now I realize that I was wrong about the ground combat. I was invading low pop planets, and that's why it seemed to be over so quick that I didn't see the troops there. Now I think that this game rocks. :D :SURPRISED:
Thanks for your input. I was just wondering if playing pure nuetral was a viable way of playing the game, but I just downloaded the new user manual (It's nice to have a more detailed manual now so I can figure out how to play better), and under the "Good and Evil" section there's a tip that states being nuetral may seem the best of both worlds but it's really not. I think Nuetral should have an additional slight advantage (other than being able to pick and choose some advantages thro
