I'm not arguing about the Fine Arts department, or it's value, or that technically you can find art in anything. I took Fine Arts and any art related classed I could my entire life, aside from doing it for my own enjoyment out of the educational system at all. When I first enrolled into college, my Major WAS Fine Arts, and I dropped it after one semester mostly because, despite hearing it from everyone else, the proffesor himself said, damn near the

My most sincere admiration goes out to any who'd devote their entire life figuring out such a puzzle. As of now...
Anyway, I've argued my case about as well as possible, so I don't think I need to say much more in proving my point. But as far proving my "worth", as it seemed to turn into, I don't need to do that by being arrogantly condescending and slanderous. Nor do I need to insult the field of design with a groundless, vitriolic diatribe, only to defend the very thing I just bashed in the next sentence I write. I was never real good at arguing with myself an
Being in the military one's entire life, doesn't make one a war hero.
To break down that "ostentatious" rambling: All art is graphic design? So what is the Mona Lisa adverting to or selling? Polident? Crest? Herbal Essences? Does the cracks in the paint signify that she should use skin lotion? Could you put a picture of the Sistine Chapel on a page in a magazine and expect anyone to understand what you're trying to convey?
There's a pretty big difference between designing buildings, and designing layouts for marketing and advertising. This isn't design in general, this is "graphic design" specifically and while I might not be able to claim 33 years of working with buildings, I can definetly claim 5 years experience in THIS field, and 2 years experience employed as a GRAPHIC DESIGNER. And if all you think about is font and point size, then you're still thinking in terms
Fine art is a totally different major from Graphic Design, thats a fact that you should just go ahead and take to heart. You don't need 4 years of fine art then 4 more years of graphic design to do one of them. Graphic Design is the use of elements, and not so commonly the creation of it. Most businesses often don't waste their time hiring "artists" to do work for them, and definetly not "fine artists." It's much more likely and sen
I'm still just wishing my "rating feature" actually worked
Fine art isn't needed, won't hurt of course, but just a sketching class would be good. What degree are you going for if not graphic design? There's often quite a few degree names that basically mean the same thing. Take as many courses as you can in the graphic design area, you don't need to take programming or anything like that. But I'd recommend any print, web, interactive media, video and sound classes you can handle. The only business cla
The term "Graphic Design" began with the printing press. The word is more based on speed, audience, and layout than anything else. Egyptians were more like "artists" and "architects." Design is more about the use of elements than creation of them. The origins of it could be tracked back as far the the written word and cave drawings, but it wasn't until Gutenberg created the printing press that things were mass produced because of movable type. So a
This is just "another" wincustomize? I'm not sure I quite get this, they're asking permission to use them? Will the icons be listed as random stuff from the main site? Will it be under an account of ours? Do these two sites work together, or are they just sharing the same name?
msn got quite a reasonable upgrade so I'm happy
Lol, what you're asking is kinda broad there. I want to do graphic design...so enlighten me on the subject? Anyway...how about this. 1. Don't think computers is the important part of graphic design. 2. Always start with thumbnails, whether you can draw good or not. (make the drawings rough and the ideas fancy) 3. Don't rush to buy a Mac, or feel that it's neccessary, but learn to use it. 4. Learn Quark if you have
Tabs are like theeee best way to surf especially multi-tasking several pages. You can load a site or go to the next page without killing the one your on. It's loading when you want to get to it, and bouncing between 8 or 9 tabs as opposed to 8 or 9 windows is a no brainer And honestly I.E. isn't JUST the most targeted browser, it's the most susceptible. Likewise Firefox only imports your I.E. stuff by alphabetical order, you can mai
I've never cared about the speed really, who honestly notices .22 seconds anyway? I like Firefox because of its useability and features. I like changing the skins without 3rd party progs running in the background. I like the tabs which make firefox "or any other tabbed browser" faster than I.E. because you don't have to load a new window (simple please) I like the total control on the toolbar, where my buttons and windows are which
What was intended is that the firefox library would not be listed by default, however thats when it had 0 skins, at 5 now it's possible it'll remain at least a bit longer. Frog said something along the lines of if it gets a few skins we'll give it another month or if a miracle happens it'll stay. I'm guessing the ones that exist in there now are enough to give it a little time extension to see if it is worth keeping listed as a main gallery, I wasn't
lol I think more people dislike orbs than they dislike nudity
Nuvem has one, but this is kind of a silly thing. Big difference between art and porno nekkid chicks, mostly whether it's gratuitous or tasteful.
The atoms thing I don't get, just what I heard.
post something anyways
Just an interesting cheesy fun thing packed full of random goodness http://artpad.art.com/?iav8ksixf0o
People should bear in mind that most of the people here are from 'the rest of the world' I guess thats true no matter where you are
I tried skinning it for about a week, finding too many of the same things it seemed, and other things, like the background, top back, not the bottom back, or sub window back....... I couldn't find at all. And after a bit I looked at it, said this isn't anything special/original anyway, and trashed it. I'll just wait till I can get some help from someone I guess.
The doorknob thing isn't something I could explain well, it has to do with atoms and stuff, which are microscopic even compared to cells. Still kinda annoying to think about though You can work with .9 or any other repeating decimal easy enough by rounding or replacing it with a variable. Rounding it to 1 would work good enough for the most part, but to be co
