I noticed the same issue where fences icons became invisible but the icons are still present when hovered over with cursor. For me the problem began with the install of Start11 update a few days ago. Something fishy in the relationship between Start11 and fences.
If you install the 2.72 beta update all should be fine.

Thanks for the bug report. The issue has been found and it will be resolved in the next update.
What CPU do you have?
That would typically happen if it was unable to load the image up. One possibility would be antivirus locking access to the file when it tried to load it up while it wanted to scan it. What AV package do you use? If you close and pick the image again from the installed backgrounds page, does it then load the mini previews correctly?

However although my program now opened to what I think is the home screen there is still no header bar anywhere at the top and I still can't see the left hand side of the screen. Nothing I can do changes this. I can't use the program and have to use task manager to end task to close it. As a final resort, I will uninstall compleltely and use the newest version to do a clean install.</p

I am sorry you are having trouble. Thats very odd because opening the config UI should never go the playlists screen. It always goes to the home page. My best guess here is the something was hung and relaunching it just brought it back up to that screen. Did the actual backgrounds change on your desktop (I.e. everything but the effects or did nothing actually happen?) Currently effects don't apply to playlists which is less of a bug and more of a missing fe

Do you have anything else installed which might impact wallpapers or the desktop? Start11 shouldn't be having any impact itself.
Uninstall, REBOOT, reinstall and hopefully it will be happy.
We will get that sorted. The new search bar on effects seems to have impacted the order of that particular messagebox and we seem to have missed that one.
