I'm pretty certain that modifying said dll is indeed a violation of the end user license... except of coarse Linux or other open source products then all you need to do is offer your modifications to others... moshi speaking of copy rights does this not violate your end user license and the authors copy right? #3 by moshi - 4/29/2003 6:30:42 AM i hacked the dll myself, you never know what you get on the net i haven´t heard reports of infected uxtheme.dlls though, the only funny thing is when people distribute modified shell32.dlls (contains a lot of icons, but also many strings that turn your interface into an other language ). <A HREF="https://www.wincustomize.com/inde

moshi I mentioned the icons for the following reason. Wanted to point out that that would not be the copy right material you were talking about. Back to your witch hunt moshi #15 by Jafo - 4/29/2003 2:35:59 PM OK...had a quick look at #7.....and see plenty I have a 'problem' with...perhaps a couple that I am at a loss to see where the issue is...if it's a MS Word icon that's used or similar read my previous post. Primarily there are background images [photoskins] that per

(in reference to Moshi posted links to dashboard themes) I thought I would point out that the icons in all those screen shots are not made by the theme authors. They are the actual icons that are provided by the program developers and appear on the desktop as such. The themes that use famous characters can be considered fan art. However the authors would have to prove they created the works and have not copied and pasted them. <A HREF="https://www.wincustomize.com/index.asp?Cmd=full&N

opinion is great. Its just that you go on about linux so much you'd think it was the second coming of the computer age. Educate yourself more on the abilities of the various OS's out there use them all for months at a time without switching back and forth. Then you will see the plus and minus of each one. Not one of them is best at all things. But from a consumers point of view linux is still not a viable option. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/grim.gif" border=0 ALIGN="a

Not everyone buy eMachines... most pc come with the cd and atleast the recovery tools. I was wondering if the linux site banned u... is that why you now hang out at WINcustomize I work for the largest Radio network in Canada we use 1 linux server out of hundreds of machines and a couple of unix boxes. They are great for network file storage work for months with out need for reboot... but they are not used as work stations because they don't have any productive software or the proper

Jafo... think you could send me an Eric Bogle cd specifically "When the wind Blows" I believe it has Soldier Soldier and Little Gomez on it. I was in the library once... lol I saw the title When the wind Blows I borrowed the cassett tape under the idea it had something to do with Roger Waters, he did the sound track for an educational cartoon of the same name. I was pleasantly surprised with what I heard (I have an ear for folk) anyway, he played here in Toronto not too long ago, I missed the

yeah some pc makers still put images on drives... it has some major disadvantages... the advantage is unknown to me... if he does not have the xp cd then creating those disks is the only other way... short of a reinstall. If he can avoid floppies <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/sb.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmid

Ryan it starting to sound like your MBR has been messed up. Have heart this can be fixed. Using the XP cd boot your system and run setup. Setup will ask you if you would like to repair, install etc. chose repair, this will load the XP recovery console. to rewrite the MBR use the following commands. first log on using the administrator user name and password. type fixmbr then hit enter. that should do it then reboot. Its been a while since I have had to do that fix so you may want to look

Well anything is possible. I've yet to hear of some proprietary protocal for a consumer ISP connection. DSL uses the PPP OE and most ppl don't realize you could use any PPP OE connection software... all you need is your user info and in some cases the domain name.

No I wasn't picking just pointing out that linux has what it needs to connect to most ISP I mentioned XP because it support PPPOE as well ... was just letting you in on that. "Oh, and it was also mentioned on another thread that some ISPs require connection software that isn't made for Linux. "

MotoHota... you are the fellow who does not know how to edit his system.ini file from a Dos prompt... I would strongly urge you to stay away from linux. I quote "Does it automaticly replace Windows?" no the ISO must be burned to cd then you can boot from the cd to begin the install... a floppy boot is only required if your bios does not support booting from CD. Mandrake is a good choose for beginners but not fool proof... it has PPPOE built into it so you can connect to DSL right from setup (b

I use Opera... it really depends what you mostly do with your browser. For basic surfing any browser will do (download opera's demo and try it out) I very seldom but from time to time I have to use IE to view a site. But Opera has a feature that lets you tell the site your visiting that you are using either IE or Mozilla. Pretty cool. As for it being the fastest browser as Opera claims I'd have to say that it really depends on the site your visiting. There is also a reg tweak to alter how f

One way around WinME or 9X's lack of multiple user support is to do multiple installs of the same program into a different install path... for example maybe one in the root of C: and the other in the program files directory... put the shortcut to one in one users startup menu location and use the other for another person. I do not know what type of response you would get from WB should you try it this way it has a control panel applet that plugs in to the display properties and may conflict...
