You'll definately want to change the location in SDC as well, just to be sure that it updates the game when patches come through and such.

I got this error message after the first part of the download finished and was installing. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong though; is this just a message that one's supposed to get because it's only a preload, or because I bought the boxed version and am using the temporary serial number? The preload menu runs (very nice looking with the transparency and whatnot, by the way).

US-4 was going around 300 KB/s, then it stopped downloading for few seconds, restarted, and is now under 50 with frequent pauses. It could be attributable to my ISP though, it's really been acting up recently.

GC2 is not similiar to EaW at all in regards to gameplay. EaW is an RTS, like C&C, Ground Control, and all those other standard RTS titles; Galciv 2 is a turn-based 4X strategy game like Civ 4. I'm not sure why this is even a popular discussion, besides pimping EaW on these forums.

Tutorial first, then about 50% of the campaign before I decide to try out the sandbox/skirmish/personalized/? mode and completely forget about the campaign until a year or more later. That's my typical pattern at least.

It's not mega -sweet . I'm using a two year old system that wasn't incredibly expensive that beats his computer. Got to build these things yourself and shop around so that you can put one together that's affordable and lasts.

With the collectors edition, you do indeed get new ship parts (only cosmetic parts), and you get a fold out tech-tree poster. You also get a spiffy GalCiv 2 desktop skin, and a collector's edition box (which clearly says "Collector's Edition" on it ). If you preorder online from Stardock directly, you have the option between the electronic download version and the boxed physical version.

Anyone know if there is a difference between enabling in game AA and enabling it in the driver instead? Should be none. If you have the AA level set in the driver, it will override whatever you set in the game.
