The other one says that no MP is an Achilles heel. I don't know how many times we beat that dead horse and drug him around. I'm happy without MP. An Intelligent AI really makes up for all those lousy human MP experiences. Oh well.. Lack of MP was his only big reason for not giving it an even higher score,

I have to play a game where I got a planet beyond size 10 but regularly encounter races with them. They also seem to have lots of resources just near them. Is this part of the system generation to make them more viable? It seems to be pretty random. I've gotten pretty good resources and whatnot in a couple

It's kind of odd. They're all in vectors, so it's not like they don't have the same possibility for sharpness in the textures. My best guess (and I'll best it's dang close) is that the reason is this: The human ship is comprised of a pretty basic hull, and many modules stuck to it. If the hull and each module were to have the same maximum texture resolution (seperately), then together the whole ship would have a higher apparent resolution. The Torian and Altarian ships both have large

The food is per-planet, which seems kind of unfortunate. The pop-cap, as I've seen, depends on your food production. Colonies naturally start out with 5MT, and capitals with 10. There's apparently 1B people for 1MT of food, so it's not too hard to figure out. That is, if I havn't gone completely looney.

You've got to abuse minors. I've sent one a planet once to get all their techs and money, only to conquer the planet back and take their main world. That would probably work with major civs, but it's a bit more dangerous. Also: rush constructors to take any resources you see early on. Those things can turn a game to your favour quite powerfully.

There are B5 blender models available... You could take just about any model and plop them into Blender, it accepts a lot of formats, and has plug-ins to support the rest.

I know everyone is anxiously awaiting more reviews of GC2 esp from Gamespot and IGN. You know, except for people who are annoyed by the fanboyish ads that most review sites shovel out, and the crappy rating system they use (70% is a mediocre game?) Still, good job on the ranking on gamerankings.

I sent several ships to the Terrans, gifted them once they arrived, and I could see a patch right beside Earth for the rest of the game. Also, the vision for my sensor ships occasionally disappears . This mostly seems to happen with the ships that I create specifically for that purpose, ie. I throw as many sensors as I can on to the largest capacity ship I have.

None of the neater random events are particularily common, and you obviously can't take advantage of any of them unless they actually occur. I've played through two games and the most interesting things to happen were just a few "moral dillema" choice thingies, and a couple recessions/periods of xenophobia/etc.

Don't forget #5 You can play a quasi-Hot seat game with someone by loading up the game as GalCiv2 cheat (use the cheat parameter). Then when you set up the game, you let the AI play out a few turns and then have your friend pick one of the races they want to control. Have them select that unit and hit CTRL-SHIFT-Z. I'm interested t

My current game is only my second and is on normal. The AI all seemed to develop a primary focus on Beam technology, later becoming semi-proficient at mass drivers. All of them. This made it easy for me to take advantage of, but it did seem pretty strange. 'twas interesting having almost all the majors asking me to trade techs after I finished Xeno Farming II though.

Do you have adequate cooling? If you're having heat issues you'll probably want to get an intake fan on the front of the case and one on the back. Fans don't tend to cost much. There is something wrong with the computer's cooling if it overheats from a game (it can't keep up with the demand), it's not the software's job to keep the system at a stable temperature. Me, BF2 and Half-life 2 are the only games that I've repeatedly seen overheating happening in, though it happens on

How exactly are they making people happy? Just by saying "Gee, we don't know what happened?" That, and by sending out the tech tree / giving the downloadable goodies out for free. Still bites though :/ Do you have any chance of getting a refund and checking Walmart? They're said to have only ordered CEs, pre-order or not. Last I ch

I hate to be one of the people making it harder than it has to be, but the .SDC file it created in the BACKUP folder was a few bytes over 990 megabytes. The initial post in this thread from Froggy says to burn it to CD? Was that a typo for DVD? I know I am doing *something* wrong here, but so far, can't figure out what.

This, this is useful stuff. Are there any other nifty things that the cheat code parameter adds in? But..When you change the camera angle it can get disorientating.. Drag it along. Or zoom out to the "strategic" view if you don't know where you are. Now that the game is in a nice smooth 3D engin

I've just been using the mini-map to scroll, it's hands-down better than moving the mouse to the sides of the screen (especially with the odd implementation of that which the game has). It even scrolls with the mouse wheel, making it easier to manage with larger maps. The graphics, as I said, are pretty dern slick, especially with the blazing performance the game engine has. The only big failing here is the low quality textures, but there's
