as a note, for whatever reason the cultural effects of starbases multiply, instead of add like trade and manufacturing effects.

Vanzagar, I have been taking the opposite approach with great success. I read in the encyclopedia somewhere that volume of planets wasn't as important as quality. two PQ18 planets in one sector with a half dozen starbases is far better than a whole bunch of 15's and 16's IMHO. I started a gigantic maso game stuck way in the corner with 6 planets in 2 sectors. I cheated a little and got two PQ random events and had three 18+ planets in one sector. After maxing out 9 starbases I
Sirian -- I have, but only on 1.05 and only when the whole game started wigging out. When I was testing some thoeries I would repeatedly load the same save game with little or no action in between. Memory leak or something, but the game starts to get weird. The mini-map always started in sector 0,0 often with planets turned off, ships wouldn't move, hitting "turn" just got a busy clock. Haven't seen it in a while, but I don't experiment like that any more.
Well, I think the I-League can pop up at any time, even if all their planets have been taken. Once an I-League, always an I-League. Also, I second LDiCesare -- the occurance of Fundies is random. The effect may have to do with morale, as in you lose a random % of your planets, starting with the worst morale. Wouldn't know -- I always play pure good.
thanx all -- but i haven't been to college for 20 years!
hey ray, wasn't that a fix implemented to fix a couple of exploits? gifting freightors for instant trade and gifting ships to attack resource starbases.
sorry -- your thread read like it was several of your planets suffering -- not one of his hehe
Gengsta -- VR centers can be of great value in certain circumstances. If you have say 30 planets and 28 of them are at 100% morale and 2 of them are at 54% morale, build VR centers on the lowest two planets. This will allow you to increase your tax income beyond the 10BC maintenance costs, and doesn't hit your production or tax base like "spacing" does. It's a question of total return, not just local return.
they build them -- I have seen a completed terror star with a resource attached being relocated, somewhat at random as far as I could see. I have *never* seen an AI destroy a planet with one, if that's what you mean.
hey xeno, there is no relation between gifting a colony ship to an AI and the morale of another star. Often sending the entire population into space *and* rush building stadium or teleporters is the only way to keep the morale reasonable without lowering taxes to an absurd level. It has been well discussed that "spacing" colonists is an evil act, but there is no morale or morality penalty for doing so. The thing about allowing the planet to flip to i-league is that might leave it
TheFrolickingMan you can also build starbases next to each other if there is a sector boundary in between *wink*
Zed F -- morale bonuses are cumulative. If you already have 200% bonus, adding another 15% doesn't change things much. Check your stats screen to see what your cumulative bonus is, then add that the the planet's bonus.
different mini-map display bug. I have seen this several times but it goes away when you reload. Send a ship through unexplored territory. allow several turns to pass and make sure the ship display on minimap is on. very rarely the pretty background is displayed instead of black, and the ship appears in a different color. Scrolling the mini-map in and out changes the ship color to white and back. Activating the ship does not cause the sector to dispay as explored (black). Kinda bi
Aldar & rubberduckyzz -- of course they didn't accept the gift if you can still offer it. You can't offer a tech they already have. like Walldorf2000 said, 1 gift per turn. just trade for 1bc if you want them to have it.
couple of points: bribe, bribe, bribe. Give them gifts before they demand tribute. Every three or four turns if you can. Pay attention to the techs they research (the ones they offer for trade), research different ones and give them as gifts. Big military and / or economy. If your military and economy are weak they will threaten you because they can. Learn to build a big economy (many threads already exist on this topic) and keep your military strong. Keep the AI'
Aldar -- I had that too with the trade routes being in the wrong color. (I replied to KLStafford but the system uses the angle bracket character as a tag hehe I always use alt-tab. in fact, if you hold down alt, hit tab but keep holding alt, you can choose between apps currently running faster than reaching for your mouse.) rubberduckyzz -- . . . technology and ships and it never disappeared from the screen . . . the ai is refusing your gift. trade for 1bc if you need to. <b
citahellion -- I agree. One ultra powerful AI that takes over 90% of the universe while you are building a constructor to leap-frog to your 4th planet hehehe. I think if the other AI's were set to idiot (or whatever) instead of being turned off the Ultra-AI would expand faster by conquest than it would by colonizing. While you are at it, leave the council so you can't trade.
KLStafford --
CariElf Maxtipherous: So the text under a ship is obscured by another image, usually that of a star? yes. I have only seen it under a star, and saving / reloading a game corrects it.
Disappearing ship caption bug. Never saw this before. Rarely a ship caption ("automove") is hidden behind a planet. Cannot reproduce, but I have seen it three times at widely seperate times in a game. Happened to constructors only,
I third the request to tone down minor expansion. Perhaps you can make it an option.
There is a legend on the metaverse page
define fun I mostly enjoy understanding the nuances of the AI and the underlying model. Funny thing, but it is the exploits tha expose the functionality IMHO. I also like to maximize the simulation, and I am from the shool old enough to have crashed all the old games by having too many ships, cities, whatever. hats off to a team that can produce a simulation that is fun for the casual player and the fanatic like me
sure. You can start with 7% bonus, get the base class 35 random event and "The Terraformer" wonder (10%), plus all the improvements (40%) for 54 or 55. Or you can start with a base 26, get the +PQ colonizing event for around 53 So I guess the only thing you missed was choosing the +PQ advantage to start with. Cheers!
I say it way back on 1.05, deep into my territory. I assumed it was for launching an attack. I see it a lot more recently, but not too early in the game.
