I'm thinking something maybe got permanently screwed up a long time ago in applying all those beta patches. I'll probably just do a full reinstall and put on the last patch, after I finish my current game. Do it, old files from beta can cause all sorts of weird niggles. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Hmm.gif" bord

Ok a few specific questions I have about buildings: How does the process work? Can you build multiple buildings on the first turn? What are the advantages/disadvantages to doing this? If you start to build 5 buildings on the first turn, do they build at the same time or in sequence? A planet will only work on 1 structure at a time.

BTW...Copy protection is also a "standard feature" to most gaming companies yet SD decided against it. It is nice to see a company take some chances and not follow the big publishers (and a few gamers it seems) in what they would like to consider the norm. Taking chances such as making a game in this genre to begin with. All hail bucking conve

Generally speaking, decide how you want to win when you start the game. If you're going for a tech win choose your racial abilities to support that and so on. I always turn my homeworld into a manufacturing powerhouse to pump out colony ships/constructors then it will go over to military production. Start with factories and leave some room for a manufacturing capital/other special stuff later on. Keep an eye on your economy, I always build a marketing centre/equivalent on

From what I remember it was officially stated that if the game sold well you would put out an expansion pack with new content that also featured multiplayer. Obviously the easy road has been chosen again. /quote] Stardock said that following the game's release they would look at the amount of interest in a multiplayer expansion and if they believed it was economically viable they would do it. Being an independent developer they can't take big financial risks, so they need to be sure

Don't ask me for the exact numbers but here's a simple-ish explanation. There is behind the scenes 'dice-rolling' to determine if an attack gets through the defences. attacking ship: 6 beam, 6 missile, and 6 mass driver defending ship: 3 shield, 6 point defense, and 9 armor Each weapon type is blocked by the corresponding defence type at 'full' effectiveness. i.e. 6 missile vs 6 point defence will mean that the attacker struggles to de

I dont undertsand He's telling you to work on a high power economic strategy so you can afford to build starbases very quickly.

You expected a poll about a game to be objective based on responses from a forum about that game?!?!? I mean seriously how can you not see the problem with that?? They are asking their customers who have bought the game if they will buy a multi-player expansion to supplement their purchase. GC

I've got to say I'm in two minds over it. It's been at the back of my mind since it first came up pre-beta and I still haven't decided! I think I might dabble with a PBEM mode but I can't see myself ever sitting down for hours to play a 'real-time' online game and dont think I will get much use out of a hotseat mode either, being able to see the other players moves takes the edge off things. Whatever the plan is it has to allow me to play

Bit of an odd one, started a new game on a large map with AI set to normal and the randomise AI option selected. It seems that all of my opponents have decided to colonise but not develop any worlds or build fleets. I've wiped out 2 civilisations and found both had not built more than two or three structures on any world. From what I can see I'm outstripping every other race out there and not batting an eyelid. Either they are all on extr

The game isn't ctually as buggy as the forum might suggest, its very enjoyable and for most people stable. And problems are being ruthlessly massacred so its just getting better.

Instant travel isn't neccesarily a good thing for gameplay, it opens up some horribly cheesy tactics and makes it a damn sight harder to defend against an uber kill fleet which just runs around massacring anything that isn't defended to the hilt. If you can see it coming you can try to muster a counter, if it just appears out of nowhere and wipes out your poorly defended colony (why not jump in the transports with it) it comes down to who has the bigger kill fleet. In the last release you can only put one on. (At least the "capacity tab" disapears for me I think that's intentional as it doesn't disappear when adding colony or troop modules) You only get the benefit of using a single construction module as, like Kid Charming says, the entire ship is used up to build a new starbase/module. The re

Crap... you're right. I checked the planet with the 50% starship quality boost... it's there... Well... then it seems that bonus is kinda horrible, then... What if a planet you find with huge amounts of natural resources gets no "starship bonus" event and one that has absolutely none gives you 55% increase...? Oh, well.. That would be ca

Propulsion tech means a better engine. Weapon tech means better weapon. New economic tech? well its going to get me more cash one way or another. The descriptions aren't really meant to tell you exactly what you'll get, its just a more interesting wau of saying 'better armour'. Just look at it in general terms and worry about the details later.

I strenuously object to the inability to rename stars. I thought you could do it in GCI and I know for sure you could in MOOII (yes, I used a swear word). I can't possibly see that as being a feature that the devs had to take out due to time/functionality. YOU GOTTA ADD IT: Scroll back up to the second post in this thread. There's a developer

There were hundreds of people with access to tne beta, and players were also involved in gamma testing. This game is not riddled with crippling bugs as you suggest and the vast majority of people are playing unhindered. Personally I found beta 5 to be solid, the gamma builds very solid and the release is playing great. I haven't spotted one typo either. Every PC game has some bugs in it, thats just reality. I have no idea what these 'significant errors' you've found ar

There isnt any offline tracking in place, I suppose you could pester the devs to add one in the bonus pack though.
