I gather from your other post that you're trying to use a solid color, so margins wouldn't be an issue. Since we're "here" though, and margins are important, I'll go with it. Painting margins lock in the edges of an image so that they are not resized along with the rest of an image when it is resized as is often necessary. It sounds like you have built the tray into the taskbar instead of using a separate image for it. You would want to remove it from the taskbar image and make a separate image, defined in the Taskbar/Tray section. If you have already defined a separate image for the systray, then I'd guess that you need to change its painting margins so that the edges "pull" when it's stretched. There are separate sets of images for each Horizontal an Vertical Taskbars.

Look at one of your themes that is 3 states. If the states are placed horizontally, divide the total image width by 3. That will tell you how big each state is. Double the canvas width to accommodate 6 states and copy/paste/modify/reposition the states. If the states are placed vertically, same process only image/canvas height. There used to be a SkinStudio and SkinStudio Pro, way way back around say WB 3, 4, 5 -ish. They both got rolled into / replaced by what is now SkinStudio. It's with the dinosaurs. It's not that it was anything better than the current version, it was just a stronger version of the regular version back then. Ah, the cobwebs.

I can get it to do it by clicking around to switch the button states between active and inactive, and it is really inconsistent. My guess is it's because the taskbar buttons left/right painting margins are set to 50/59, without smart margins, and the icon-only buttons are not that wide. Might need to be fixed on the skin.

I just now downloaded the Aero Metal skin and the preview was generated fine. I don't know if everything is always the same, but here's what I found with Aero Metal: I can right click on the .wba file and open it with winzip. The preview file "Aero Metal.uis.preview10" is not included in the .wba file, it was generated by WBConfig. When I installed the skin, I did not have WBConfig open. Curtains isn't an upgrade to WindowBlinds, it's a different skinning program. You can have them both installed at the same time. You can only have a skin from one or the other applied at any one time though.
