The more people I talk to, the more I realize that we as the 'common person' really don't seem to have any input when it comes to our government's foreign relations policies. In bug fixing terms, this is By Design. I'm no original intent scholar (I find that whole camp to be remarkably un-American, although I hate to use the term). But a reading

Are these "Peacekeepers" an actual planetless minor race who randomly show up or are they the U.P. enforcing laws? Re minors w/ no planet: They were able to declare war and some AIs declared war on them. They appear on the Minors tab of the Foreign Policy page. I could see all systems on my map and the did not have a home world. Re UP la
From a realism point of view, how often do real world nations hold major summits? Snarky answer: many times a year, depending on what you mean by "real world nations" and "major summits." But Ugleb's post points to a possibly useful improvement to GCII diplo functions. I'd like to see the UI include a way for players to send the kind of
I think the best thing is that there are 12 of them, although I admit I'm pretty confident that the Stardock devs will feel compelled to so several rounds of serious balancing and tweaking after DA 1.0 ships. Regardless of how they end up working individually, the new Super Abilities, especially when combined with custom opponents, will extend the lifespan of GCII for many players.
About the first point... I suppose they do as, i read once somewhere (sorry, no link ), the AIs don't make any difference between other AIs and the player. Right? I know this is a general rule, but hadn't thought about it when I posted my basic question. This reminder gives me a fresh question, though: When one AI complains about you to another
look stuff up in the on-line Webster's The form define:obscure works in any Google search box, AFAIK. IMO, the OED should be free online to everyone. If you have an academic login of some sort, you might be able to sign on to their fancy dictionary, and if you like learning about words, the Oxford English Dictionary is totally worth checki
I usually get both from the Iconians and then immediately trade it away. Costs a bit to get if you don't have high diplo but you can get bunches for it in trade. There was a "I regret buying this disc" thread today where I said something about this forum being able to help you get deeper into the game. It's been a long while since I learned here
I have two questions about when an AI shows up to tell you they're worried that so-and-so has too much influence, etc. 1) Do they do this to each other? 2) Does this message mean that the AI has "used its turn" to talk to me or another AI?
I basically agree with posts 17 and 18, but it seems that the devs are in bug-crushing mode. I don't think we should hold our breath for a way to split espionage spending between "offense and defense" (or however you like to label the categories). Software can't stay in beta forever, at least if you want to see large numbers of people using it. But even though I *really* want to see NotMoM2, I'm also tempted to try immediately starting a begging campaign for what to include in the first
It will be nice to see trade become more useful, I hope we can use the extra cash to buy some agents. I think Kryo said recently that the devs are in cleanup mode now and we shouldn't expect any major functionality changes. But one-time spending to finish a spy seems like a really swell idea, even if you read about Mumble's economies and think h
Buncha frakkin' nonsense, if'n you ask me Half-seriously, there's a *big* difference between being English-speaking and being solidly literate. And English spelling is no help for any student, whether or not they're native speakers. It doesn't help the folks in the trenches that some students these days think you're questioning their sexuality when you point out a homonym error...
With the right tools and a good imagination, it's never the same experiance twice. I strongly agree. This forum is also one of "the right tools" for the job. After you play a bit, you start to have questions about how stuff works, you read around here looking for info, and you end up seeing ideas you'd never come close to on your own that turn ou
The higher end ones are based on having more than one hyp shrinker. We need an emoticon that clearly shows drool. I've deliberately worked to take worlds with tech/man/econ capitals, but I hadn't thought about having two Shrinkers...this would surely make small ships very worthwhile. <TABLE cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=center bgColor=
Stardock have produced a system that creates short term gain for them and long term pain for buyers. Beg pardon, but even though I've really not read this thread, I have to protest humourguy's overall take even if I might yield on the question of whether Stardock Central is just another DRM. One of the reasons I've ended up being one o
On the Let's Give the Bored Devs Another Task theme, I'd love to see some context menu (right-click) stuff added for all the management pages. This factory problem could go away if we could right-click the factory techs we don't want to use and forbid the governors to use them. @brycej re mid-to-end game money, I have question: do you have starports on many or most of your worlds, and do you always keep starports producing? I don't know if the idea is crazy, but in my last few DA games
any more major changes will have to wait until the next expansion or GC3. I suspect "major" is a pretty fuzzy term here, at least if DA gets even half the post-release attention that DL had. Assuming that most devs working DA now will need to work on NotMoM2, I'm a bit torn in what to wish for...
Come on, I can't be the only person around here with a tree-hugging streak. Or is the idea of putting value on an unexploited resource just beyond sacrilege to the 4X crowd?
Trading money without exchanging goods doesn't make any sense in the 1st place Isn't that what currency markets do IRL? Silly scoff aside, I find the OP's experiment interesting and I wish I could imagine some similar experiments to test my assumption that your diplo bonus has real weight when it comes to things like trading for a strate
I've seen minors building a few colonies on my recent huge maps, and am glad to see it. But I also strongly second the scoffing of minor AIs building influence bases and wasting work on troop transports when they apparently will never be used.
I've said elsewhere that a big part of how I approach this game is telling myself stories while I click around. That, together with some of my "professional" training, is why I balked hard earlier in this thread. I'm still a tad leery about the near-permanent duration for the treaties, but I'm beginning to think I have a lot more thinking to do about how a particular diplomatic agreement, say the Treaty of Versailles or NAFTA, has some results that no gov't can undo despite the fact tha
For a long while, I was hung up on maxing my hull size ASAP. Recently, I've begun to see value at different times in putting my BC into mostly small fleets with a few medium hulls. I confess the forums didn't help me change my head here. I started thinking about emphasizing small hulls when I noticed a stretch in one game where the AIs were leaving my larger hulls alone in favor of killing ships that I'd accidentally built to have more firepower than their bloated elders. I'm s
Kind of like being inside an alien playstation I believe he said. The frak you say! Any chance you noted the person's discipline? My guess is philosophy, or some near relation. For almost twenty years I've been making serious jokes along these lines. Too many "real" stories I know read like some gang of script writers and assistant producers thre
We would be alot better of if the IRS was scraped infavor of a tierd consumer tax. We need to abolish corporations and make individuals directly responsible for their wealth. That beyond-wild fantasy aside, any reform this radical *must* be built to include B2B transactions. I'm talking about both things like the latest Lear jet that Ty
Deth, I lurked here for ages just looking for minimal chunks about things like my weak video card. I'm really suprised at both my own and others' interest in a good digression. Re the florid prose problem, I try to keep that under control in direct talk about the game, but once I see "Off-Topic," well, most of the editing staff in my head toddles off to the pubs. Please feel free to slap me around when I let my love of language get in the way of being understood about practical matters
The strongest complaint I've seen so far is about the Super Adapter--others should not be able to simply research away your "Super" Ability. I've gotten perhaps too fond of the 1-turn factory part of Super Hive, but I'm guessing it will still make a worthwhile difference when we see the change to percentage bonus in the next public build. Overall, the Super Abilities are steadily growing in my affections b/c I'm starting to think they might help me out of my strategy rut. Keepi
