What, do you think that what Billy boy Gates did with his "foundation" is really going to help people? Ready as I am to question the hagiography of the PC and the fact that we have not moved one serious step beyond the notion that a precious few own almost everything, the Gates (guilt) money will absolutely help a very large number of people. <b

Choice of (or abstention from) intoxicants aside, doing some image searches on the web can be a big help whether or not you have serious graphics skills. All Windows computers have programs (MS Paint at minimum) that can crop and resize standard graphics files you might find through a web search. Cropping and resizing can go a long way, regardless of the words you might use for a search.
It is a marvelous, marvelous game, potentialy an enduring All Time Great - but it will not be the latter if Player enjoyment is sacrificed on the alter of the AI. Zydor might have a sharp pun here, intentional or otherwise. I haven't been able to finish the game that made me start this thread, but I'm up to 1 Jan 2236 and got there b/c I more or
I think I muttered elsewhere about seeing some recent improvements such as easier lurking w/o sign-in.
I suspect that the "defenses stop mattering after stage X in the game" thing has at least a few signficiant dependencies on play style, or at least for tech-heavy strategies. For DL, I almost always played gigantic maps and it took the AIs until very late in the game to build single ships that could zap my fully defended bases. That said, I believe the OP might have some valid points here and would very much like to see a Stardock response to the basic question of whether base mechanics
Again, I do not see the point in demonizing success, if this success is gained with humility, charity and love for others. I must agree with Evil S on politicians as a general class, however, since a lust for power does drive a commanding majority of those with a political impulse. I'm all for caution re "demonizing," but in the old days my acade
send us some Smirnoff (vodka) and we'll send over some Levi's (jeans) That's still exchange, not "out of thin air." Or am I missing something? p.s. Smirnoff's not a Russian brand (at least since the Russian Revolution), and is pretty wretched vodka
BP offers a couple of good basic approaches to the Super Isolationist ability, but I think it's worth noting that depending on how your map is laid out, making friends with the Yor could yield a pretty nice buffer zone between you & a temporarily stronger AI. That said, I hope I don't end up joining Zydor in mourning the "death" of gigantic map GCII games. I'm beginning to think I need to try harder at small map games just for learning value, but I'm about certain I'll always prefer the
I've kept thinging, and the "out of thin air" thing makes some sense to me for the research treaty, but how do you give someone else's economy a boost at no cost to your own?
Re keeping the AIs off your back as long as possible while you're playing a research-oriented game, once you pull well enough ahead in techs you can use your lower level techs as gifts or trade with the AIs. This is especially helpful if your economy is struggling, but can also be a way of meddling with AI relations (e.g. helping a mid-ranked AI on the other side of the galaxy remain an attention-holding threat to its neighboring AIs).
I didn't know the event could end... can it?? I'm hoping that if it is permanent in Beta 2, that might be open to change. But I haven't noticed a Stardock statement about the event yet.
I don't do console games on my own volition, but I have a good friend who got me to play a fair bit of Worms. Not that I'm inviting another wild digression or anything...
moderator's wraith I trust this warn't no D&D pun. No, wait, I'm almost half-sure it was...
But is it only us Gangsta Psilons who have seen and balked at this event? The longer this event goes in my (near-finished?) Beta 2 game, the more I want to read about this on the forum. I still don't even know if it is new for DA, although I'm pretty sure it is and even suspect it is a bit of a cosmic zap from Frogboy b/c speed junkies like me have been whinging at length.
Is it because everyone started talking about real Nazis? Possibly second biggest laugh I've gotten from this forum & likely evidence that the wee folk are truly among us, or at least in the software On another tangent in this thread, in the late
a camel and the eye of a needle For those with a materialist streak, it's worth noting that the "Eye of the Needle" here was a particularly narrow gate in an ancient city wall. The metahporical extreme might be more appopriate in an age when vast fortunes slosh around the globe daily, but I often like to think about the ancient greedy m
QuietlyObserving, please don't give up posting even if you favor lurking. You seem to agree with me and others that one part of GCII's value is that it can make you think, and if you've been thinking, sometimes you think of something "worth" discussing.
I just noticed a related UI detail: in the Moves Left field for a manually launched constructor, I see 13/4. I have a screen cap and save I can email if this might help the devs.
It makes horribly ironic sense that Evil S would have a good point about US hagiography of our "greatest generation." Don't get me wrong, I'm really glad it took until now for me to need to start worrying about gun-toting bureaucrats asking for my papers. But my grandfather told very good stories about his long military career (he started out being lucky enough to catch a fleck of Pershing's spittle on his cheek when his high school ROTC squad was being reviewed--didn't wash his face f
I've been trying to finish the game before I made this post, and I tried searching around to see if this event is new to DA & already under discussion. I couldn't find a thread to join, so here is a question, an observation, and, well, some speed-junkie whinging. Question: Does this accursed event ever end? I wish I'd written down the game date--can't find an entry for the event in the .storylog. It has been a *long* time, probably more than a game year. Other events have come and gone.
More precisely, "support ticket" is a formal record of people requesting support. In snarky-talk, it's a data point that, when classifiable in large numbers, can be a cause for change that might always thrill folks with slightly above-average computer skills
I guess the recreational arguments vary across D&D crowds as much as house rules for Monopoly . Of course I should admit that I basically disliked every D&D system I ever saw even though I was a junkie player. My favorite paper RPG ended up being the Hero System (starting with original Champions). I think they were pretty revolutionary in explicitly separating numerical mechanics from special effects. That's doubtless par
How did you react when people older than you were telling you this? 42 + a few weeks. I listened better to warnings about overdoing the intoxicants than I did to talk about eating better and avoiding stupid mistakes with my back. <TD class="mb-B
First everyone was discussing grammer nazis, and now we're talking about real Nazis. Isn't this what history class or a history based site is for? I'm the OP, and all this "real" history and politics part is very much what I wanted to see--that's the main reason for the subhead. Perhaps more importantly, classrooms (at least until grad school) ar
ToS, I think part of the problem here is that I don't have "a point," just a hasty collection of loosely related remarks. That, and I have some out-of-game kneejerk stuff about "neutral" alignments from both my limited reading of European history and (turns a bit pink, drops eyes to floor) D&D. I didn't mean to ruffle feathers, but the line of yours I first quoted just poked me into semi-snarky response mode. Pretty unprodu
