Interesting to see the various philosophical leanings come out in response to a game - just goes to show that we live and play in a way that is consitant with what we believe, or the character we are acting and believe that that is what he would believe (this for the evil people who are not really evil at heart, they just wnat to emulate that type of person) :) :) But, in a recent game, a good and chaotic good AI on close terms would not form an aliance with me because they thought I

I get the I-League on about 50% of the small maps I play. In 1.19 their influence color is Orange - so bright it obscures the star systems in the sector ~SDC~
My screens going blanck
When I start the game, my screen is usually dark for some time before the opening videos or screen displays start. I also get a lot of adjustments to the resolution as it starts up. Occasionaly I get a blank screen between moves, but the screen usually redisplays shortly. I am running on a fairly old machine of only 800 MHz. Am using a 128M buffered display card

Are you on galciv.com and go to the forum from that point, or are you on Stardoc with the live update of posts to the forum? If you are in the latter, click on the software tab at the top of the screen. This should take you to a window that has the software updates, etc. Stardock central needs to be on your system an

I recently changed my alias from dgperry to Weyrleader. All my old games appear under the new alias, but I think that it was at this time that I ceased to be able to submit new games. I give the new alias on the submit window, but it doesn't submit. Even worse, in v1.19 I don't even get the submit acknowledgement window, ut just drops back to the main menu. I chaned the alias on www.wincustomize.com in profile. Is there someplace else that I need to change a setting? Thanks in adva
It was in another thread in the forum, titled "Changes for 1.19", posted by Cari.
I had already looked there. I did not see anything in the thread the refered to what needed to be done before installing v1.19. Carielf did talk about all the changes and bugs fixed and there were short comments relating to that, but no information regarding pre-install changes. Thanks for the pointer though. ~SDC~
The culture win (ver 1.13, not tried 1.19) is way too easy
In 1.19 the culture win is harder in the late game becuse of the increasing cost of starbases. In my last game the final starbase cost me 64oobc just for the base unit. I usually find I need at least 2 in each sector that has one start system and more if there are 2. Also, the new spacing enforcement may keep a busy sector from being able to place the needed amount of starbases to flip the systems. ~S
Games saved under 1.19 will be only 1 file. 1.13 files should load, but you may want to archive 1.13 and backup your save games before loading just in case. The new save game format is more robust than the old one, so future updates should not corrupt save games.
I am trying to understand what one should really do before upgrading to 1.19. The above is the only quote I have seen about the number of files in the save folder. It doesn't say anything about deleting all

Well, I have only one .sav file in the d:\Galactic Civilaton\Data\SaveGames folder. It is the EndGameSave.sav When I reload it it is the correct game. So far so good. But, it still will not submit and the submit screen exits immediately to the Main Menu. Have I missed something else somewhere in the various threads on this board? Thank all for your help. cheers :HOT: ~SDC~

In exploring the problem of not being able to submit a game, I discovered the following: I finish a game in v1.19 and submit. It does not submit. I reload the endgamesave and what gets loaded is not the same game I just finished, but a previous game, one I played in v1.13 I think, although I am missing another game that did not submit, but perhaps this is it, not sure. In anycase, I can reload the previous save and get the v1.19 game back, but it apparently is not saving properly or perhaps
How about starbases just have signficantly less cultural impact
With the limit on space between SB now enforced, this would limit the amount of influence even a fully populated sector of SB would exhibit, maybe not even enough to flip the sector color.

I have now played two games unter v1.19. I have not been able to submit either of them. In the previous version of 1.13 a message would appear saying it had summitted with no errors, etc. This time, no message at all, just the disappearnce of the submit window. Also, I could not get past "good" alignment, even though I had an alignment score of 100 - only good, not saintly. Is this a change? I agree with the cost of starbases. My last starbase I had to pay 6400bc for. Not
Destroying the planet with a Terror Star usually does the trick.
I love it :D :D :D I recently had a system with a skull and built up SB with culture influence until the sector flipped to my influence. Doesn't get rid of the skull, but at least I know that the sector is mine. One way to get rid of the skull without destroying the planet is to let it flip, then apply the above technique and flip it back. [Message Edited]

My experience with terror stars is that if you are at peace with everyone, you can build them anywhere and move them accross the galaxy with neery a peep. I have only played one game where the AI's built terror stars and in that game they had 5 of them. I had 10 of them and used them to intemidate star systems until they flipped. Only on the last system did I blow it up. What fun :D :D :HOT: ~SDC~
I am TOO OLD
Well, I am sorry to hear that you feel that you are too old to enjoy learning how to play a new game that is not like any other that you may have played. Research has shown that the brain remains agile as long as it is learning. Take the challange and enjoy the ride. Explore the options, try something daring. It is just a game, so it doesn't matter if you lose. By the way, I am 62 and I don't consider myself old at all. Neither do my kids.
