Pop size is limited by PQ is is not? So... depending on how long the games goes...
I think that population limit is 100B regardless of PQ. I have played several games that went on long enough for all planets to max out on population at 100B each. There may be other lower limits imposed because of the lack of population sustaining buildings, but I had built everything on the planets, so at least under those conditions, I think that 100B is the limit. ~SDC~

I just finished an AP game on medium map, crippling difficulty, and rare tight cluster. During one of the colonizing events, I had a choice to lose 6 PQ, stay the same, or gain 6 PQ. Since the planet was only a 14 to begin with, losing 6 to take down to 8 and lose my colony ship did not seem like a good choise, so I chose the evil choice and was supposted to gain 6 PQ. In fact, the event went away but nothing happend to my PQ. I am pretty sure that I hit the third choice and not the middle c

Magnumaniac
For reference, I'm playing Large or Huge, tight, rare, Populists, +60% diplo, +30% econ.
Star Pilot
AP is both *easier* and *tougher* then regular GalCiv, from what I've noticed.
I think Star Pilot has it correct and Magnumaniac confirms it as well - AP is harder on the smaller maps and easier on the larger maps. But the play is also different. I now find that Alliance victory is the vidtory I go for. In 1.2 and earlier, I went for c

My expereince with AP so far is that I have to learn to play differently than before. I was playing at the small to medium masso level, but I have had to drop back to crippling or lower to still win. The diplomacy and influence doesn't stop the AI from wanting you planets as soon as they get death gliders, so I have to build up the military almost faster than researching the basic stuff. The games seem harder in that respect. ~SDC~ [Message Edited]
The problem went away when the bases died first, but still ... the game must choke when somebody has bases without planets.
This was a problem I saw often in 1.20 as well. DeathStar the last planet and on the next tuen, CTD. Reload and finish ok.
bug: you can park a constructor on top of a resource without building a starbase, cheap and easy way to deny resources to the AI.
This ain't a bug, it a feature :D LOL :D LOL Please don't take it away. The AI also uses this "feature" The only way to get them off a resource is to start a war with them, either yourself or get someone else to do it.
which battle tactic do you guys use?
When I do use troops to take a planet, I use convention warfare to minimize damage to the infrastructure. I have tried the other and cannot seem to make as much progress. ~SDC~
what are some good strategies for taking over other planets besides culturial
Well, there is the obvious one of going to war with them. If a minor and they are not allied with anyone, this should not be a problem and early in their life they are very vulnerable - except for the Minors that start out at the beginning of the game. At that point, everyone is vulnerable, but there are no transports ususally to worry about being invaded. With Majors, you want to sneak in th
What exactly is a Minor for?
I use them for new planets. The first they the build is a weak little MK or fighter. Their population is only a few hundred million even after 10 turns or so. Kill them early and you have a good yellow 16 PQ planet to build on. Make sure you have the ability to flip a sector if you take one in the controled sector of an AI, becuase even though the Minor might not flip, when it becomes yours, it will definately flip in a few turns, in some
The exploit is using 6 fully developped cultural starbase (+343%) in the same sector. If their influence add, you will have a bonus of +2058%(influence multiplied by 21)But currently, they multiply !!!So you have a bonus of (1 + 3.43)^6 -1 = 668 100% which is insane. Here is the cheese.
Peace Phoenix, The AI use this to exploit the humans. I just finished a game in which the Alterians (?) we so far advaned in technology that they were two shiptypes ahead - so no chance o
but all the amazing players will come on here and tell you that the way you have been playing (and enjoying) galciv is, at best, the "sissy way".
I doubt very much that after this posthing that many people will take the time to tell anything. :notsure: Previous suggestions made to you to try to help and console have obviously fallen on fallow ground and weeds have sprung up in their place. Hope you find a game you can enjoy without destroying it for others. ~

I just finished a game in which some strange things happened. I colonized a PQ14 planet on a small white start system. It was in a sector in which the Drengin and another AI both had planets at 30+ with the Drengin having a slight influence edge and therefore owned the sector. I built a SB and loaded up with culture modules, but the planet flipped at PQ17. Within a few turns the planet under Drengin control was PQ 31. Eventually I captured the sector and the planets flipped to me. The plan

Just finshed a game the CTD when I destroyed 5 Dengren planets to with DeathStars. When I reloaded and completed the game again, all the usual data are missing, but I noticed the the Dengrin's most productive planet was Earth? :sniff!: :sniff!: :sniff!: I was not aware that I had lost Earth at any time during the game, in fact I am postive I had not. Earth was still mine in the endgame screen. Must be another bug related to the data that is saved or not save.
Just wanted to say that I love it when the Carinoids with only 3 planets produce 3 trade goods in 5 months
You can do it in 5 months usually also, but you have allocate all you money to production. The problem is, I usually want only one planet to do it and they divide and conqure. :sniff!:
Cari said that I'd tripped the PQ flag. 40% PQ ability is the biggest you can have
If the PQ flag is the one that trips, then there must be a time limit on it, i.e., it must flip early in the game. I have had games that do submit with plantes that start out as 20-22 and get all the way up to 120. That is certainly more than the 40% rule. Actually, I would like to see a change in the game that limits the improvement, not flips an unknow switch that you don't kno
And does no one care that winning by culture has been eliminated essentially?
Actually, it has not been eliminated. I stil win through culture (called military victory because of the way I set the the conditions for victory). And I do this without fighting a war (and hopefully not defending one either).
The Alterians offered to "trade" RANGER technology for... nothing. Did they mean that as a gift? If so, they used the wrong verbage if not they didnt ask for anything back from me
This was true in 1.13 and 1.19. I assume it is their way of gifting you.
Doing this type of exploit should carry a penalty
Well, let's not be so noble that we allow those aliens to get away with stuff that you can't. In my last game, they flipped my planet, then demanded that I had over my SB next to the planet, then demanded that I remove my ships from "their" sector. No sure how this any different than taking their money first and then their planet. :sniff!: :sniff!: :sniff!:
