It is hard to say whether McLean was better than Richard. Before Richard's ego got hold of him, he was the star of the show. He was (arguably) the reason why people watched the Match Game (at least the ladies.) McLean was definitely better than Richard in his "pouty" days. He was probably always funnier, but didn't quite have the sex-appeal.
