Why Do We have to Pick a Side? in Politics JoeUser Forums

Why does it seem like we are all so inclined to pick a side and and dig in, defend it and block out anything that comes from "the other side"? It is obviously the case in U.S. politics these days. You pick a party/candidate and only listen to points coming from their "side". Everyone denies they do it but most get caught doing exactly that. It isn't just politics though. If you aren't ready to declare your support of gay marriage then you're a homophobe.

I have recently found it disturbing that on a discussion group for our public schools it never fails that people will openly voice concerns only to have a PC admin pop in to warn people to make sure they are using facts when discussing things on in the group. I always thought the path to uncovering facts was open discussion!

Actually CharlesCS, most prices go up in response to taxes not the other way around. Businesses don't pay taxes, they pass the expense along to the consumer. I agree with everything else though.
