I've never been able to play deeply into a game, due to crashing issues. But I never build the default ship types. Everything is custom (I wish you could make the built in ones obsolete). I usually make one with tons of speed, one with tons of range and one with more of a balance, depending on what I'm trying to do. It will be great when upgrading works, because then I can spend time making the ships look cool, and reuse the same design.
I'm hoping this is just a known beta issue, but it's kind of annoying that all the old outdated armor and weapons & stuff stays on the ship designer. I mean, why would you put a big weak expensive laser on a ship when a smaller, better & cheaper one is available? It's just clutter.
Hey, neat. Signed up.
Download Stardock central on new computer, goto options put in your name serial codes/ emails and passwords. Yeah, but is that legit? Most software has a "you can only use it on one computer" type policy in the licensing agreement. I'd rather have Stardock's blessing and an official way to do it.<br
Oh, I got excited for a minute there. How hard would that be to add? Custom decals, colors & such.
I think the way it is now is fine, so long as by the end of the game you can colonize all planets. For example, a mars or venus like planet should be terraformable to something decent. But what about gas giants? Gas giants (and all class zero) should either be removed from the map (since they are useless to the game as-is) or given colonizable moons. Colonizable moons presents an interface challenge however. If there was more spacing o
if you'd put on ship a 50% cloak, then a range 10 scanner would detect that ship at range 5, and range 20 scanner at 10. Yeah, that'd be the way to do it. So you de
How did you color it? Am I missing something on the design screen?
Yes, oh please fix this. I would play with my Wacom tablet on GalCiv 1 just because it was easier to tap while hitting the double click button on the pen than to click the mouse 70000 times. Anything would be an improvement, even if it just lets you input the number with, I don't know, the keyboard.
It's a good suggestion, but please don't start adding insects, (more) robots and other random aliens with boobs. Most mammals don't even have enlarged breasts unless they are nursing. Humans are just weird like that.
I never had a personal problem with the space shark. It was annoying at times, but you know, he's part of space so you kind of have to accept him. In fact, scientists have proven there is no way for space to exist without sharks in it. Here's a diagram: As you can see, the space shark is a fundamental part of the universe. You can't be any more angry at it than say, gravity or time. All these things can suck, b
I like them personally, but the argument is that they are harder to do and if you give diagonals a greater move penalty, it doesn't really matter. Plus with squares you have 8 directions as opposed to 6. But I don't know whether galciv has a greater move penalty for diagonals. I am betting though, that there is no way we are going to see hexes in GalCiv 2.
I'm going to go ahead and suggest (again) that some of the worm holes be permanent (or semi-permanent). Losing your ship to the other side of the galaxy might be annoying at the beginning, but later on would be a great short cut. Plus you could add a new vote to the council as to whether stable worm holes should be taxed. This would make maps (and custom maps) much more interesting.
To help beta test? I'm a fan of stardock, but not that fanatical
Ok, cool, I just read someone say something about how they upgraded their ships, and I wanted to make sure it wasn't just me
I've had problems in the past, also sometimes when switching to hardware mouse, it disappears entirely causing me to click around and try to find a button or something. I seem to remember this being an issue in the first game too. Such a simple thing, why the problems?
Or at least make the tree nodes smaller. It's hard to scroll around and find what you are looking for. It would be good too to wrap the mouse cursor so you don't have to keep doing the click-drag-let go-move-click-drag dance.
I've been playing with as large a galaxy as possible, with stars set to rare and planets abundant and habitable planets abundant, also, stars scattered. This gives the game a more realistic feel, since the outer most planet of one system shouldn't be three feet away from the next star system IMO. And stars are REALLY far away in real life, so it should take a while to get out there. Plus it limits expansion since your ship ranges don't change just b
I think the ship designer is great, and shaping up to be a really cool extra for the game. My only complaint is I can never seem to fit enough parts onto a ship to make it good. The parts are always just too big to add more than 2 guns and 1 defense or 1 gun and 2 defense, and if I try to add engines, forget it.
Whenever I try to upgrade a ship I have made, the model of the ship doesn't show up in the 3d build area. The parts list is there, but I can't add or remove parts.
Just upgraded to version .77[b].009 (is this beta 4?) I am running windows XP on a pentium 4 with an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700. This is a two part bug, and smart exception doesn't report anything at all when it crashes. First, when running Trillian, any Trillian status message will be clickable when the game is running. So if I hit a button on the GalCiv 2 interface that happens to be where a Trillian message is on the de
Yeah, this happens to me. I haven't actually quit a game... I usually get an Alt-Tab crash, and when I reload there are no borders, so everything is out of range.

hich is great. Matter is scarce in the Universe, none of it should be considered worthless.
