A couple of points. Screen resolution has a DPI, just a fairly low one. There's no difference it's just numbers. I've never coded at the windowing level in Windows but I'd be surprised if it didn't have a 'relative' screen addressing mode to complement the 'absolute'. Even GEM had this in the bygone days of the Atari ST. Vector graphics are only really useful if originally designed as vectors. Bitmap>Vector conversions are always horrendously low quality due to the (usual) nat

As far as the ceonsorship thing goes.. mea culpa. And I agree with most of what you say, but there has to be a certain level of assumption and inferences for communication at any level to take place. The problem is finding the level that best accomodates everyone involved. As well as the problems of what I call 'the barren text wasteland' you also have differences in culture and experience to contend with. Well, I've already missed the first half (and 3 goals) talking about t

Ahh, understood. I often suffer from that, and the unwanted knack of getting people's backs up. It's difficult when you first walk into a cliquey environment and have ideas that don't fit in. Especially when you have a big gob and fingers with a lot of time on their hands (great metaphor). regards, Jerry <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/sb.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmiddle" ALT="Powere

Jafo, I agree entirely. I'm not totally sure why what I've said is being taken badly. Maybe my language was inflamatory, by being poorly written or explained, or I assumed a certain level of what you might call 'unsaid agreement' which isn't there. I don't advocate that this site should be full of adult content (certainly nothing harder than the wallpaper on your current desktop) and I find the lack of swearing quite refreshing. As far as the 'shielded' comment goes, I defend i

Stumpy> if you're talking about the email, you seem to be suggesting I was in some way foul mouthed or in some way assaulting you. This is disengenuous. For this reason I present my entire email: --- Subject: Offence taken Stumpy> If you have no concern for children whatsoever, then I pity you. I find that particularly offensive, but have no interest in starting a flame-war in the WC forums. Jerry --- I also find it offensive to make such

Hmm.. I seem to be questioning the actions of the Admins a lot today - sorry. But.. a user brags about how he'll get around a site limit, and is then rewarded with free downloads for his good works. Seems odd to me. regards, Jerry

WC is bound by law to disallow the display of certain types of things - which I won't even mention - anything else outside of those things is deeply unlikely to provoke anyone to do anything to a child. The fact that the Admins must deny/remove such things wasn't worth mentioning. Jerry

Have many children been molested via a wallpaper or icon? As for the emails, they're just words and the words of idiots. I'm well over 21 and you're welcome to send anything - but there's not a lot I haven't seen and doubt if you could change my mind. regards, Jerry

My take on the approval system is that it should be in place for the security of WC (people like Apple, Disney, etc. are notoriously energetic in persuing their IP rights) and for the security of we, the users. DesktopX in particular is very powerful and could be used maliciously if a coder put their mind to it. I'm less persuaded by the idea of approval being used as a censorship aid for the moral minority. But that's me, I've never been of the mind that children should be shielded fr

I honestly think its basic drawing capabilities are rubbish - the way it handles 'shapes' is awful, the brush system isn't a patch on fireworks and the anti-aliasing on curves at very small point sizes is unuseable. Don't get me wrong, it's a superb tool for other things and I've used it (sometimes for long hours a day) since v3. Naturally a talented artist (certainly not me) can use any tool to create a masterpiece, but would Renoir of used bits of twig and mud when paint brushes and o

For compositing and retouching images from differing sources you can't beat Photoshop, in my view, tho it is very expensive. However, it's pretty rubbish for drawing things from scratch, for that I prefer Fireworks which also gives a better degree of control over things like anti-aliased lines - particularly at low pixel sizes. Painter used to be great for drawing things in natural brushes but I've not followed what happened to it after Metacreations pulled out of the graphics market.

Inny here, I think it's down to how the umbilicus is treated by the nurse immediately after the birth. Outies are a fairly recent phenomenon - I may be a bluff old traditionalist but they make me queasy. regards, Jerry

When you go to edit a script in DX2, go to the Help menu item and reference. In that scripting guide look up Object.AppBar on page 14 and see if that does what you need. If it's not quite right then you'll need to code it up yourself, which is reasonably easy to do - use the appropriate system and object properties to find the width of the screen, width of the object, etc. and use a timer to change the object.left property as you need, to slide it over. If that's com

I'm not a fan of this kind of skin, whether it's done well or not - so ignore me if you fancy - but the one thing that would put me off your skin is the size of the Title bar on the windows. I hate losing screen-realstate to bits of window. regards, Jerry
