I do know that when I buy one of their products I receive better support than most companies even think of offering. What I do though is buy directly from them so that the profit goes to them and is not delayed by a financially troubled publisher.

Xoxotl: I really do not understand your "points" at all. The GalCiv2 site is open now to those who have purchased AP or Total Gaming. The site will be open to all later. The minor races are quite useful. I use them for trade (especially after I decide to start killing off majors) and for getting some quick cash by selling them techs. Since you don't have to eliminate them to win the game I usually leave them alone most of the time.
