If it makes you feel any better, I just fried my 1Gig flash drive in my new PC. Front USB connectors on the new case were a different style than the new MB, so naturally I connected them wrong and.....voila! One dead thumb drive.

Yeah, there must have been a delay while the server replicated the edit. i can not get my drive to boot. If your drive was dying that could also explain the error messages you were getting if the system files it was trying to use were on a bad disk sector. Sounds like it's time for a new dri

Just to be sure, are you talking about Windows Eplorer, the shell, or Internet Explorer? If your shell isn't running, how are you getting to your browser and the event logs?
I assume from your posts that explorer is not running, if you bring up the task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) go to "New Task" and type in explorer.exe does it start?
Would file checker not run? or did it run and not fix the problem? Was there anything notable on the Event log? (You can also get their by typing eventvwr.msc in the run dialog.)
Try seeing what is in the event log (Alt-click on My computer->manage->Events. Look under the three different categories, especially for "little-red-Xes" You could also put you install CD in the drive, open the command prompt, and type in sfc /scannow This will run system file checker, and restore any missing system files or .dlls that may be missing or corrupted. See if either of those get you anywhere.

When you say that "nothing works" do you mean that your PC is not working at all, or that nothing related to IIS is working? Also, was your XP upgrade a clean install of XP, or was is an upgrade that installed on top of ME? Those type of upgrades were notoriously unstable (not much else to expect when building on top of ME.)
