Quick question(s): What are your plans for GalCiv as you near the release of AP? Are you sticking with your previous vision of 1.2 being the last major overhaul--with .01-type incremental changes occurring? More globally--as far as AP goes, are you generally sticking with the AI as it stands, or would you consider making some substantive changes to improve balance/playability? Or is all significant AI development being deferred until GalCiv2? Thanks, Bam-Bam

elkabong-- Other than finding a way to reload an old version, perhaps you would find some fun in learning more about the game through a succession game? I am close to starting a new one up with a "training-day" theme. I am by no means the best player around these parts, but there are a few of us who know our way around here that will be a part of the game. If you are not familiar with succession games, take a look here: http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=141922#144515<
Thx Peace Phoenix. I forgot to check on my turns, but I think you are correct.
Drengin.net gives you access to all of Stardock's games and other software for 18 months . Stardock has been putting out patches/updates and will continue to do so--that is not on the clock (well, it IS based on the budget they have set aside for post release support). The new expansion, Alterian Prophesy, is NOT free, but that's par for the course. It does have a whole lot more features.
As far as I can tell, anything beyond 100months does nothing. Also note, none of the majors may be at war with other majors for the alliance win to kick in. @Peace Phoenix--there are broken elements with getting immediate results (tech, relations improvements, etc.) for per turn payment. Civ3 suffers from buying on credit as well, but the credit period is limited to 20 game turns. IMO, buying on credit is FAR more important in the early phase of the game, when there is a real

One thought, Brackard. A useful mod to this would be to have the tech costs be selectable by map size, since the costs do change with map size. Looking at your chart, it would take a bit of work, but would be doable. Just an idea. Otherwise, great work! This is the formula I have seen in all my games. tiny=40%, small=50%, medium=70%, large=80%, huge&gigantic=100%
Head on over Aaberg! Welcome! Right. That'll do for this one. Signups are closed. Final Roster Bam-Bam Smegged Zed Aviator (playing) Isit Aaberg Stay tuned for another RB succession game, to be launched in the near future!
Cypher--I hear ya. My youngest is 7 months, and I remember well this last pregnancy--my wife was on strict bedrest for 9 weeks. Thankfully everything worked out. Don't mess with a wife chocked full o' hormones, aye. Thanks for your interest.
#84 by Citizen Peace Phoenix - 2/26/2004 11:11:04 AM Ar you sure that this bug isn't linked with the fact that IDs instead of Code are saved for the improvement?
Are you talking about registration IDs?
Aviator99_UK experienced an interesting bug when playing out our recent succession game. Looks like our Kolaz queue has picked up some things that we should not be able to build at this point. We are in year 2181, and have not researched very far. We certainly should not have completed Terraforming on a planet (see second shot). Not to mention, we are not even close to Terracomputers, either. His post on the subject is here. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?post
Aviator. You must have been away. You were the first non-RBer I had in mind for this game. Consider yourself added. Roster update: Bam-Bam Smegged Zed Isit (currently playing) Aviator (open) We still have a slot open. CypherPax expressed interest, but gave a somewhat unclear indication of his availability. Cypher, if you are still interested, could you help us understand your situation a bit more? Otherwise, we still have a spo
#17 by Citizen PoisonedAcid - 2/25/2004 2:43:47 AM umm, why does one have to PAY to patch the game?
It's not a patch, it is an expansion.
Thanks Paguma.
Paguma, to whom did you send an email. I have pre-ordered the AP cd, but am considering subscribing to Drengin.net. I will not do it if I still have to pay for my AP cd, obviously. Thanks.
After Smegged's first attempt at applying the always war variant from Civ3 to GalCiv, we have decided this effort worthy of the next Realms Beyond Succession Game. For those of you not familiar with the concept, a succession game is one where members of a team take turns at the helm of a single player game, playing a specified number of turns before passing the game to the next player. Players from Realms Beyond and other empires have played five complete GalCiv succession games at Civ
Starbases are not the only thing that should be scaled to map size. I personally find it weird that you are limited to 10 trade routes on both a Tiny and a Gigantic map.
I'm not so sure about this one. The amount of cash rolling in on a gigantic map from even 5 trade routes per civ is tremendous. I think allowing beyond 10 would make gigantic maps even easier.
I am pleased to report that Isit has completed our cultural victory. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=78456 The team played well, had lots of interesting discussion, and taught the AIs the ways of RB culture in an excellent time (victory in June 2192). Doubly sweet was that we did not even research our way to cultural conquest. Isit should confirm, but I am fairly certain that we used less than 5 cultural starbases (up through culture palace). Nice to have 3
Jaxom--since there are no takers, and you have checked in at the CFC thread--you are up. Guess we'll have to wait until the next maso SG for some more participation from other empires. Rest assured that I will be running another SG after the 1.2 patch is released next week. Glad to have Aviator on board--the Euros have participated in 3 of 4 of the open RB SGs so far, Thanks! Thanks also to the Diplomats and Special Forces for loaning us your overlords for the last set of games!
Thanks for the idea Peace Phoenix. I won abundent maso (can't remember map size--except that it wasn't gigantic). I did not want this one to be abundent so that we had a shot to complete the game before the next patch. I suspect that will be on the agenda for one of the next games.
I have started the game. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=78456 Roster is as follows: Bam-Bam Zed Aviator Isit open The first year has been posted--Zed is up. We still have an open slot...come on all you maso vets--jump on in! - Bam-Bam
Woot! I look forward to playing it! Perhaps this thread should be stickied??
The developers have stated emphatically that the morality issue is a gameplay feature to be put into a box of morality events. Thus a "saintly" player or AI can be dastardly galactic conqueror, and remain saintly. I see no reason to change the events to make the choice less clear. There are balance issues with morality (benefit/penalty not consistent with alignment shift, the ability to trade for and use alignment specific techs even if you do not meet the alignment criteria, to name
Frogboy posted that the next patch comes out a week from Friday. http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=133941 Basd on that, I will start this one off over at CFC tonight. I have a starting save generated (in case of multiple teams) as well as my opening round complete, so the game should be up by 8:30pm (EST) this evening. Let's just say that we could call this one "In the thick of it", too. :) Preliminary roster (if there is only one team). Bam-Bam Zed Aviato
