just for the record, im a teenager 2. Do u guys seriously not understand me? ive posted ALOT of comments in the politics section. I realli enjoyed ur article. The only section i disagree with cornbread is the idea that wanting to be the best at something is negative. I personally believe that competiton is not only positive, but nessasary to create a society that is progressive. How r we suppose to kno we're doing a good job without seeing the guy next to us fail? <img src="../images/smiles/jok

The united states can easily eliminate Islam entirely, but thats not gonna solve the problem. If u seriously think that crushing the islam people is gonna relieve this problem than u r completely mistaken. There is a whole generation of young people in the world that is the sworn enemy of the united states. Osama bin Laden has achieved a cult hero status not only in the middle east but also in Africa, eastern Europe, and sum parts of Asia. Do u really expect us to destroy all of these places? It

hmmm... i admire ur dedication to ur cause even if i dont believe in it.... although its that same dedication that forces me to publish under a pseudonym whenever i criticize religion just so im not harrasssed. (those southern baptists r PERSISTENT)

hmmm... i have made criticism of the US government, and its current degree of curroption but i dont think i would qualify it as facist just yet. For one, the basic defination of facism is that one single person or a group of people has ALL the power. While the bush administration is obviously pursuing this through such legislation as the patriot act. There is still a relatively large amount of power vested in Congress and the state governments (at least in terms of domestic issues)

Ok Brad, if u insist on dumbing the situation down like that. It is true that one would punch back if punched. If there was say 10 people surrounding you, one of them punched u. Would you punch back knowing that if u knock him down, another one will come and punch you again. That is the reality of the US rite now. The war against terrorism is simply a war it CANNOT win unless it nukes the rest of the world. (and that would be pointless) We r exploiting the middle east for its resources rite now

i agree with threead in that the amount of atheiest people is bound to increase. If we observe the middle ages, almost 100% of the population was religious. Human beings, since our begining, have been trying to explain natural phenomen. The greeks and romans did it by claiming that there were polytheist gods controlling every aspect of nature. After the Enlightenment, theories like heliocentricism and Newton's natural laws shaked the foundation of theology. Hence the development of deism and lat

Cornbread: u look for an intelligent argument yet ur only argument against mines is "Why that was just like a lot of bull".... although this kinda response is quite typical from theists when faced with any type of reason.

The strick on america was not out of the blue, it was due to american foriegn policy which attracted attention 2 our own country. I personally owe no alleigence to any country right now, being legally canadian, chinese by blood, and living in the US. And i choose to view the situation from a global perspective. My question is this: would the US gain more if it went down on the middle east with an iron fist as Brad seems to suggest so eagerly, lose civilian lives as well as american combatants, a

listen, i am not trying to attack america or ne thing, i brought up the roman empire as an example of no matter how powerful a nation-state is, it will eventually fall if the people and government become too arrogant. It is true that 2% has owned most of the worlds resources. however, these 2 percent were all previously distributed throughout the world, leading to more isolated incidents, eg the french revolution. with the development of globalization, we r no longer divided into isolated sectio

Wardell, i understand ur point of view and agree with ur use of historical facts however, u seem to have dismissed sumthing when u were quoting ur historical facts. We r not in the imperialistic ages any more. We r in a time when 2% of the world's population own 98% of the world's resources. The problem is not in the middle east, the problem is EVERYWHERE. If american foreign policy does not change, than u can mark my words that there will be another alqueda(i no i spelt it wrong), anoth

joy... i love religious arguments first off, the problems religion has caused greatly outweigh the benefits it has given. Everything from the crusades, the jihad, the IRA, the middle east crisis, etc etc, can all be traced to one single source. A group of lower-class, uneducated ppl who can't succeed in this world so they make up a story to make themselves feel better, pretending that sum guy in the clouds mite reward them if they act a certain way... complete nonsense. Religion and the reli

in return to the Cornbread, the constitution also states that state and religion must be kept seperate. and just to make sumthing clear, i am not anti-american. It would make me a hypocrite since i couldnt even say this without freedom of speech, i am simply defending another countries's citizen's right to live, and emphasis the fact that religious arguments should not be drawn into political arguments. If we do, then we'll end up with another middle east or another north ireland.

ok, the merry christmas thing is taking it a bit 2 far. however, the pledge of alliegence is blatantly contradictory to freedom of speech. A teacher cannot force a student to say anything, muchless force them to plegde alleginace to a certain organization, namely the ferderal government, i myself am i student and i refuse to say the pledge because it is my constitutional right not to

im saying the horrible atrocities we commit far outweighs whateva chartiable donations we occasionaly make, and ur assoiciating god's will with american will. that is far from accurate. plus im atheist so i do not take that argument into account

hmm... im rather looking forward to the future. if u think bout it, human beings as a specieces is in its infancy, who knows where we can go. Besides, ppl have always been afraid of change, ever since the renaissance to the industrial revolution. People have always been afraid of new things. I dont no about u but i dont fancy the idea of a world without mass production.

hmm.. back 2 the good old existentialist argument..... we have no purpose in life for cryin out loud, we're just here 2 live, reproduce and die. simple as that. i for one am pursueing money and power (im a student rite now), everything else follows that.
