It is the "pause" key. Not an option in multiplayer, though. Europa Universalis doesn't seem to be suffering at all with this as a working option in multiplayer. That's even a more detailed game with, essentially larger playing field. It doesn't seem to be unanimous among the consumers, btw. It would have been nice to beta the open map game too, maybe we could be offering feedback on

By heavily limiting the possibilities... Doesn't that make you sad for a supposed genre defining RT4X game?
it completely removes all concept of terrain and front lines, chokepoints, etc. i know some have said there should be no chokepoints in space, But phase lanes don't give any concept of space terrain. They could do that with nebulae, blackholes, plasma storms, asteroid belts and a myriad of other 'space' terrain. These things would not only give space some substance, but actually provide extra tactical options. Nebulae to hide your s
Just be sure to buy the game. I think most of us have with the pre-order! Yes, it's the tools we'll get and how powerful those tools can be. Gotta have faith!
Say, speed attack is strongly discouraged in GC2. The range is usually very limited as well. Judging by what I read here, I believe quite some of the pro-open guys actually want to do speed attack in SOASE too. Using speed attack against other human players is fair, but using speed attack against AI will ruin the single player experience IMHO. I've never understood the 'range' in GC2. Even on the largest galaxy map possible, most ships are capable of co
Go to a military base or ranger base and get your promotions I think.
Open for me too. If GC2 can be open with so called best AI ever in the universe omg I'm gonna explode. And plenty of other real time games have had openings with some on occasion 'natural' barriers with good AI. It has to be possible here!
Why not use what GC2 has...each ship has an operating range and speed! Then we can build some outposts/stations in deep space as key installations to boost range or be an early warning sensory system! But I think a good space game can be made with true open space. Difficult, no doubt, but possible. I thought this game was to break down pre-conceptions of how space RTS games could and should be like.
Have the planets like in GC2 with quality levels! The quality levels can be random, but then volcanics stay near sun and all that hoo-hah.
Yeah, Stars! was awesome. I think maybe we did expect a bit too much from Sins, with the whole, "It's a new genre of RT4X!" business. But that's what expectations gets us.
IG 2 didn't need lanes!
But even when this game is set in space, the units and things move/are set on a 2D plane. Kinda like a traditional strategy game. You don't see KoH, AoE, WC, or Civ having city to city travel only on roads, you get a myriad of different terrains. Some which may naturally block you from travelling through. For some games. there is some degree of 'funnelling' the routes you can take, but the way they do it atleast looks natural. e.g. "a mountain is in my way, we must go around!
Nice points Tholan
A single system well would be great. Infact, shouldn't that allow the 'galaxy' you play in to get much larger? (Cause each system won't have a bajillion planets just a handful!) Even if it is moddable, it's cool.
Thanks Blair. Wormholes!
I don't like the space lanes. It's why I haven't been able to get into Space Empires and other games that use it. Gal Civ 2 is great in that there are no space lanes that restrict how you get to a planet. I relish how the AI will go a long way around my empire to avoid my sensors and surprise attack me. On the mention of chokepoints, we should be able to create them ourselves. Not be forced to use preset ones. How? Well, in another thread there w
Oh yeaah! The star place must be very important. Larger gravity well, it is a star after all. But wait, its well is gonna be the whole system isn't it! hehe Anyway, being able to build in star place will make it an unbelievably awesome strategic location!
You could always tie the space-lane to a structure. That would be very cool. Like in Babylon 5 isn't it where they have those things prebuilt?
if the game is to slow, multiplayer could en up not being fun, since you couldnt play a big map. A big map with say 3 galaxyes and some 8 players? Maybe if they add so that you can save and load a multiplayer game? Europa Universalis seems to do very well in multiplayer. That also has variable game speeds though to help everyone, and an option to save/load multiplayer games. Since Sins is trying to have 4X in it's RTS shindig
While the pace is nice, to have an option to vary game speed would be fantastic. There are some moments I feel I'm speed clicking, I don't want that! Even Supreme Commander offers this.
I don't like the idea of skipping it. Then how can you use the phase inhibitor? I think there should be 'set points in which ships must travel to and from when phase jumping. Because when a ship comes in from direction A, it is in a brilliant position already to phase jump to any other place, even if it is on the other side of the planet! Using that picture up. Ship comes from A, arrives at B. Moves to otherside of B then can reach C. Otherwi
I hope we get a game like Space Rangers that is within the Sins universe...using the entire galaxy...yeah! M2 wasn't a waste, it just really failed to improve the UI and things...oh well!
edit Never mind fixed it
edit Nevermind the earlier stuff Downloading now. Huzzah, finally get to test this badboy.
I'm guessing 28th GMT. Which will be all the more painful for anyone +GMT. I remember there recently being quite a tiff over release day...think it was Jade Empire with the digital release. Bioware made it so late a good portion of the world actually were unlocking it a day later! Nice time to boo at localisation on the internet. I thought the internet was to break barriers like this? But it seems recently localisation has grown on the internet, strange that!
