That screeny there. Shows only THREE solar systems, which is supposedly one of the larger galaxy maps. Something about just three stars for a galaxy map feels odd to me. That's all. Sins takes place in a relatively small area of a galaxy, not the entire thing (as the galaxy is a stupendiously big place). Then I feel sad about that. I can't find that epic. Oh well. My initial expectation at the

To those who asked me my problem. That screeny there. Shows only THREE solar systems, which is supposedly one of the larger galaxy maps. Something about just three stars for a galaxy map feels odd to me. That's all. It seems galaxy size is focusing on number of planets (that one shows 22 around one star) rather than number of star systems. Which is only three! That's all I have a personal issue with. Hey, isn't it released tomorrow?
It is vague. I still have doubts over this game. One expectation has already been failed or whatever...or like...made me upset when I saw how star systems are set up. But still on course to actually try it out.
Ahh, knew if I didn't log in here for a while I'd see something worth reading finally. Too bad I have Laplace's Equations in circular geometries to solve for the 3rd of April.
I thought the Dread Lord campaign was this big galactic war and the whole saga apparently just lasts one year? Doesn't sound like much of a war. What do you think? Will the next campaign after Dark Avatar be in 2227?
Rox: I think no anomalies are marginally popular, but we still have the choice. Same with most of the choices we have. The modding potential isn't as high as it could be for the choices given. It's to give us choice to 'do it ourselves' then DA falls a bit flat on the face here too. From the mods I've seen over the past year, we can just change text/graphics(?) I haven't seen a major sweeping mod that dramatically adds something to the game. Nothing to change the way the game
SEV has great customisation and choice. It's your 'dream' scifi game because you can essentially mould it to play out in several ways. I like the ship design in V better, it's less on 'looks' and more about what you actually want in the ship. GC however, is finely polished, but a far more rigid game in comparison, imo. Frankly I think we'd all want the choices of SEV, with the polish and look of GC2. Whether it happens isn't in our hands..unless a few of us are hobbyis
Hey Rox. On the wormholes: A feature which can easily be optional, like mega-events, super abilities, anomalies, minor races etc... The game is always striving to give the player 'choice'. More choices, more ways to play the game, better the game can be. It may not agree with some people but that's what choice is about. It's no more unfair than a civ that happens to have ended up closest to the most resources, or high quality planets. It happens. Not everythi
Hi, posting about the star systems again... The planets don't orbit do they? I've been looking at this screenie http://sins.stardock.com/reports/betatour/index.23.jpg And that number of planets around that star...it's hard to imagine them all having an orbit. The star doesn't have a gravity well, does it? That probably seems too much, given each planet has a well.
Be cool to see the variations of galaxy you can make. Although each system seems to have lots of planets around it. Seems like we're fighting in a small sector of a galaxy rather than the galaxy. Argh, why did you have to show screenies! I'm just creating horrible thoughts now!
Thank you. Although I'm already iffy that three star systems is epic... Is one star system just one star with planets orbitting that star? Maybe I've mistaken what I saw in the screeny.
I wouldn't mind the graphics being scrapped in place of a better set up of planetary combat. Hell, I pretty much skip the battles now. Infact I skip the space battles too, since they are ultimately eye candy. The visuals aren't giving me any specific feedback I can react to.
6pm for me now...a few more hours my day is over. We should have started a pool or something.
I haven't seen the AI handle the peacekeepers. Then again, I haven't seen the peacekeepers actually do anything anyway. (The AI attacked them once but after that the peacekeepers just didn't move, ever. I stayed at peace because I never attacked them!) I don't see what an AI can't handle about a wormhole. :\ The example he cited was the player getting overwhelmed by a large fleet of drengin ships that came through it. I can't buy the AI not being able, when certain aspects were
Oh wow, other posts again. Yes, planetary invasion leaves much to be desired. The idea of plucking out a % of your current population and then having the survivers of the ground combat become the new populace of the new planet is really really really weird. Now I can understand why the 'culture and races' of other people are completely ignored. You essentially wipe them all out during the i
I just like to chuckle cause Frogboy shot down the idea of a stable wormhole by describing exactly what mega-events do. I'm curious, what decides which mega-event occurs...or is it random?
Boo at that! Another reason for me to moan!
It's afternoon Monday for me! Stardock set news set around GMT! We are the points of reference! I so so so so so hope the news is that the beta has been released...oh please.
Technically, my money is already spent on the pre-order. (Tokens) Although a small bonus is I think I paid a few £/$ less than you would through normal means. Regardless, even if you haven't been charged, the money has been committed. It should be taken seriously. Anyway, the news I think could be "beta is delayed until so and so" or it could be..."beta is released!"
Nevermind it now...
They've used some two funny comedians for their ads here in the UK. (Maybe you get the same) I do find it really weird how the PC is all work work work and the Mac is all fun fun fun. I always ask, what is exactly the 'fun' part of Mac that I can't do on the PC... As far as I know, the Mac is really good for video/graphic editting. That may be fun for some, but not exactly fun for the common computer wanter... :\ To me it does seem that the Mac is better designed for w
The customer is always right, we should get mad! It's our right, we are the life blood! I don't get this, "Why release something that isn't ready." It's a beta, it's going to be far from ready anyway. I just don't want to end up with a beta that comes not too far off the official release date. Won't leave much in how much can change, who knows...there may be some major changes to make...this i
Hey, I have to make a specific script in Matlab with Lagrange and...well, frankly, I've never been good with the whole scripting stuff. I've found some existing scripts but don't seem to be similar to how my specifics need to be. (maybe they are, I just can't tell) Is anyone a buzzing mathematician willing to help me? If you can, could you provide an e-mail addy to contact with you? Thank you.
Something else that has come up while playing. Every one of my people are faceless. Yes yes, we have 'culture' but it means absolutely squat bar the numbers. I have the Torian and Iconians eventually surrendering to me. These people, these races are now part of my empire. But from that turn, it's as if everyone is the same race...there is no variety. These dudes numbered in the billions but the game assumes they assimilated completely. Despite the graphic on the diplomacy viewscreen, we
It doesn't matter which orbit path you choose.
