I think the time has come to tell you about my one and only experience with Texas. It wasn't pleasant and I don't harbor fond memories. We flew into Houston en route to London and it was about 110 F and bloody-frickin' hot. I was embarrassingly old to be so stupid, but I said to my friend in front of a planeful of listeners, "Man! It's so hot here! And brown! Why would you ever want to live here?" To use a phrase from an above blogger

The Once and Future King by T.H. White. Very interesting take on the legend of Arthur. That one looks good. I'll keep an eye out for it. I recommend "We Were The Mulvaneys" by Joyce Carol Oates (if you ever had a concept of a "normal family" this one's a good read), "A River Out of Eden" by Joh

I was gonna ask, do they check or something? That's ridiculous. Now ebola, I can understand that. But HIV? C'mon. (Could you sign a statement promising you wouldn't have sex? Or wear a chastity belt? I'm sure one can be fitted for men.) I'm American and I'm sorry that our country has some stupid laws. There's your official apology. -St. Anglo.

Phoenixboi, gee, thanks. I might add that in other given places there was a wolverine, a 23-point elk, and a few other rotting furs. You gotta love the art that is stuffing dead animals. Fazz, um, sure! But hey, there are plenty of places online to get ordained. Hell, I could ordain you right now. (Wow. Putting "hell" and "ordain" in same blasphemous sentence makes me feel all ba

Today I had a one-day temp job in a very small town about 30 minutes away. It didn't seem so bad--just answer the phones in a lawyer's office--so I said okay. They seemed desperate to find someone on such short notice. What they didn't tell me was that I would be temping for the Devil. Let's call him Larry. Larry seems like a nice, lawyerly name. Als

You guys are funny. Much funnier and clever...er, yeah, cleverer than I am. I think I'll give #1 a try and see how that goes. If it goes really well, he might volunteer to get rid of some of them. -A.

Ha ha, imajinit, I knew you could help me out. #3: Tell him a charity was making the rounds in the neighborhood, and since he, ahem, benefited so nicely from charity in getting those shirts, I was only returning the favor to the charity gods by returning them. 3 down, 7 to go.... You're right--there are brilliant people here. Hopefully some of them have faced t

White pants? I thought you weren't supposed to wear those after Labor Day.... I'm aghast. Pink should never be in for men. Donald Turnip, er, Trump wears pink ties with his black suits, and for some reason it just draws a big pink line all the way up to his sneering mouth and, well, the hair. I'm not particularly fond of pink for women, either, come to think of it. Fortunately, I can choose my own clothes, even if I'm not the epitome

Well, Janders, this is a simple issue (she begins sarcastically). It's all just a conspiracy put together by dentists and orthodontists and oral surgeons to make you miserable (I'm sure they inject something back there that has a 15-year-dormant period, then it starts to hurt like hell so they say, "Oh, well, we'll fix that right up for ya! And it'll be $500 billion dollars. Cash or credit?"). The answer to all of life's questions is a conspiracy.

I trust your judgement more than his on fashion. The trouble is, he does have nice, new shirts. And he doesn't wear them unless I tell him to. Grr. I don't want to dress him, but he shouldn't be allowed to dress himself. He's already mad at me tonight for some stupid thing I did, so I might as well compound it by throwing them out anyway, right....? -A.

Dude, Drmiler, quite emphasizing your words with quotation marks. It makes your remarkes exceedingly difficult, not to mention annoying. Use italics or shout in ALL CAPS if you have to, but PLEASE--and that's me shouting--don't use quotation marks. Ugh. That said, the U.S. is a U.S. president's first priority but Muggaz has every right to be concerned about our president from his own point of reference, which is not being an American citizen a

How is it racing if you're going 95 mph faster than the other guy? It's not even a contest. Sheesh. I wouldn't go so far as to say attempted manslaughter (don't you have to have a motive for that?) but definitely reckless and stupid driving, and perhaps a long suspension of a license and a good smack upside the head (and perhaps elsewhere). Sheesh again.

Phoenixboi: The flaw in your plan is that he said HE would throw them out, so I promised that I would not. Now, technically, putting them in a box in the attic, say, isn't "throwing them out," and neither is letting someone come and get them, or sending them to someone else. Unfortunately he has wisened up to this fact and in a moment of weakness (my arm twisted behind my back at an odd and painful angle) I promised that I wouldn't do those things, eit

Hello ladies, have I got a good deal for you! I'm married to a nice, intelligent (brilliant, really), romantic, witty, wonderful guy. But he's got this problem that I, alas, can no longer deal with: He wears the ugliest shirts in the world. I'm talking the throw-away-bin-at-Goodwill ugly. You know when your great uncle or some distant male relative died, and

Thanks, Gideon. You have my best wishes on all the interviews in the world (except any that my husband would be applying for). XX, yeah, hopefully we can double the $750. (Okay, okay. At least add a hundred for pain and suffering. Hey, you don't want a laptop, do ya?) I bet people would really like it if I posted a list of things for sale. -A.

BlueDev - Good call. I think that's what my brother's going into, for the exact same reasons. He also just started his third year. Anyway, just know that a family can and does get used to a parent M.D. leaving for calls in the middle of dinner, or in the night, or vacation. It happens and you just kinda roll with it. I'll have to watch you and see how things go. Best of luck.<BR

Happy to get a second chance to sell it? We are THRILLED! However, we're still waiting to celebrate anything until we find out if H got the job he interviewed for last week. (If I stay on JU, will its good karma help?) -A.

Yeah, you may be a dumbass, but I'm giving you major points for your title (I,Dumbass) and for your "Random Acts of Senseless Fuckery" line. Very clever. Um, and buy your wife something pretty. -A.

Some kind of miracle just happened. Not the supernatural kind--I'm not sure I believe in those--but nonetheless amazing. Backstory: Sold a laptop on eBay to a buyer in the U.K. He "paid" through a fraudulent escrow service, but before we knew it was fraudulent, we'd already shipped it. Not having a lot of contact with the police in London, we thought it was

I had friends who had started having sex when they were in 4th grade (both of them), and my best friend was proud of herself for waiting so long (she was 12 when she slept with her 15yr old boyfriend). This was much different than in the small town I moved from. If I ever have kids, which would take an
