Most intelligent people are aware that the recession began the last year that Clinton was in office. It began because most of the dot.coms failed. Whose fault it was, who knows? Why were they so inflated in the beginning? As for gas prices, wouldn't a president with oil connections have something to do with the price of gasoline? When the west coast had very high electricity prices and shortages, Bush did very little to help. Hoover didn't cause

Exactly. I like to see the trend in colleges to require volunteer work as part of graduation. I suspect a lot of people have learned their job as volunteers.

Wahkonta Anathema, You wrote a very wonderful post. Jesus certainly did make the religious leaders hate him. Judahism and Christianity are incompatible. But I think when you compare, Christianity, Judahism and Islam with other religions, they have a lot in common. As for the movie, the Jews condemned him to death, but the Romans gleefully carried it out.

I think that this is a common problem for mothers or women who for whatever reason don't work. We love our families, but we need to use our brain. I think that only compulsive housekeepers are happy just being at home. Volunteer work is a hidden part of the economy. Without it a lot of things would never get done. I certainly went through this during different times of my life.

Even beautiful women can see what's wrong with their looks. Only you can tell yourself that you are beautiful. If you do, then you will find plenty of other people to agree with you. If you don't, then they won't.

Try complaining to God instead of everyone else. Maybe he will answer you. That's what the people in the Bible did.

Dynosaur, it sounds complicated but its not. Divide the area between Jews and Palestinians. Create secure borders. Then put each group in their own area. Two nations, side by side. Compare the attacks with those between Israel and Syria. Some but not nearly as many. Violence begets more violence. The problem is that Israel refuses this solution.

Larry, Most of us are not against Jews. I don't happen to like Israel's policy, but it has nothing to do with Jews. One of my favorite books was God, the Jews and History. (Old book) As a Christian I owe everything to Jews, as a liberal, I know that I owe even more. My favorite Jewish joke is about a Jew who ran into a church in Russia to escape the Cossacks. Jesus got down off the cross and ran out with him. He said, "Let's get out of here, it

At any point tangled wishes, you can make a decision that with the help of a higher power that you can let go of drugs and alcohol and start living the life that you have the ability to live. Some people wait until their forties to start. Others start in their twenties. It really is up to you. Jepel is right. Recovering people can be the best people. Don't give up on yourself. There is a side of life, that you haven't seen yet.

It would be interesting to find out what the people who have road rage do with their time. I think that some of them are just too busy. The traffic in Western Washington is to bad, that road rage would be more common here, but letting people in is common. We do have road rage, but the politeness of people here makes it easier to deal with.

Love is complicated by co-dependence. A co-dependent is only "happy" is someone needs him. Sometimes this need is manipulated by the codependent other times by an alcoholic, drug addict, or other unhealthy person. What differentiates genuine love from co-dependence is that the lover desires to enhance the spiritual growth of the beloved. In romantic love, there is the added sexual attraction. A lover may sacrifice his life, well-being or self-inte

You must be kidding, Brad. Talk radio exploded during the Clinton years, when Bush was elected, there was a sense of loss that there was no one to complain about so much. I don't see how you can say that the left has more hateful people than the right. Do you have numbers? Is there any data?

I see your point. Scott Peck called this individuation. This happened for me when I was thirty-five. I moved away from my family and away from their view of me and the world. I am now friends with my brother and mother, but they in no way dictate what I believe. I admire someone with your courage. I read in a book about how John Woolman believed that slavery was wrong and went to every Quaker slaveholder in the entire United States and told them

I admire the fact that you admitted that you were wrong. No matter how another person drives, driving badly ourselves is not escusable. Cars are death traps, we should treat them and other drivers with respect. On the other hand, most of us have driven badly one way or another. As for people who protect their expensive cars--I can understand the motive, but the way they do it just angers others into vandalism.

Having a disability for many is a incentive to work harder and to not give in to the pain and the disease. You are certainly one of those. I remember when my life took a leap for the better and I left behind many of my friends who were stuck. I always wondered why. But what was harder for me to deal with was the chronic illness of my daughters. That was where I had to learn a different sort of toughness. I have had to teach them not only not to g

You right very well. I have been amazed at the change in Ireland since the Good Friday agreements. I'm glad to hear that there is still progress. I visited Northern Ireland in 1999. I could feel the tension, but I didn't feel unsafe. I wish that the United States would do the same for Israel as Tony Blair did for Ireland.

I hope things go well. I understand your grief. It happened to me twice, but hopefully the damage won't be that bad and it will go well.

It would make things much simpler, if we could only figure out how to drive without gasoline. We don't have very good public transportation where I live.
