Well, I don't how if it is possible to get the official french version when you have the english one. But I know how to get the unofficial french version :
You could also try to use the non official french version. You will need to go here http://trans-galactique.forum2jeux.com/ and search a little.
Peace Phoenix
Is there a way to reverse it back to english voices/english texts ?
I don't know how the translation is handled. But I know a way to get the english version: register the serial id in impulse and use impulse to download the full game. You may need to uninstall sin first. Be warned, this requires a very good internet connexion. You could also try to use the non official french version. You will need to go here <A href="http://trans-galactique.forum2jeu
That's great and all, but it's kind of a bad price... Live rates at 2008.07.26 00:06:25 UTC 40.00 EUR = 62.7993 USD Euro United States Dollars 1 EUR = 1.56998 USD 1 USD = 0.636950 EUR
True, but there are always some costs associated with localization of a game. The version sold in France is 100% french: french manual, french packaging, french text, french voice. And I don't know how localization of updates will be handled ....
As Renius has said, relatively few of us on these forums have actually played the alpha, If its from the following: hughferriss - Nate Simpson (Lead Artist) draginol - Developer or if they have a stardock emblem by their name: frogboy - Brad Wardell CEO of Stardock Kryo
It should be noted that draginol and frogboy are just the same person ;)
@LoTeK_83 If you want to discuss the topic about delivery method, you should go to this thread https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/317632
Well, there is an unofficial patch made by fans that allows you to play GC2, Da or DL in french. It is available here http://trans-galactique.forum2jeux.com/
Do I have to get updates through Impulse if I purchase the games on CD?
Well, you can use SDC. There are updates planned for DA and TotA ... And I don't know at which versions will correspond the CDs you will get.
Just found out about this Impulse and the auto-update thing
Currently, the only thing that auto-update is Impulse itself. Since on GC2 savegames weren't compatible between versions, I really doubt that Stardock will implement an auto-update mode on games without letting the user choosing to enable that behavior
thirded as I have been able to get SR2 with tokens but not SR2 reboot.
There may be another problem with Win 2K: Impulse won't run on it and Impulse is the new downloader to be used to download games from Stardock Servers.
From this page http://www.mcvuk.com/press-releases/38261/Galactic-Civilizations-II-Endless-Universe I would think that Kalypso media (who is publishing Sins of a Solar Empire in Europe) is just selling a bundle of GC2 and the 2 expansion packs for the UK market. Unless I have overseen something, a stand alone expansion doesn't require the original game. So the only way that the 2 GC2 expansions works as standalone is only if the base game is also included. BTW, only GC2:DL was availa
...There will be some updates for Dread Lords users as well...
isn't really the same than
The 2.0 update will address a lot of the issues and bugs in Dread Lords
Some stuff may be updated in 2.0 but I don't think you will have a LOT of the issues and bugs in DL addressed.
Wouldn't be hard to check which files changed, then Zip 'em up or Torrent 'em.
Perharps. But in that case, Stardock wouldn't be responsible if the patch doesn't correctly work ;)
Then I was right and Sins DRM is like MassEffect's DRM which effectively destroyed the users ability to resell the game
Then you should go to the thread https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/317233 and argue with the person that has posted the reply #20 since he wrote:
DRM = Digital Rights Management (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_rights_management) Not to be confused with actu
whats the big deal in not releasing updates on the net anyway?, im sure theres some guy out there who got the game legaly who'll spread patches after downloading them
To make things easier for the customer than for the pirates To allow spending less time in creating and testing a stand alone patch. It is not the same to rely on a delivery system (Impulse) that is not specific to a given software to be patched than have a specific e
I wouldn't think Impulse would make it any more secure: people with a valid serial who purchased the game get patches and updates; people who got it illegally don't.
Wrong. Standalone patches can end on third party/ mirrors sites. When it is the case, people that got it illegally can get them ...
I've had way too many bad experiences with Steam, Stardock Central

So yeah, I have to ask Stardock: Why Impulse? What's wrong with the system in place?
Impulse is just the new generation of Stardock Central.
#1 When sins was being made/released, Impulse wasn't even released, it wasn't even being discussed on the forum.
Then it would have been better for Stardock to tell to the customers to use Stardock Central (before switching to Impulse) instead of creating stand alone patches ...
The 2.0 update will address a lot of the issues and bugs in Dread Lords
It isn't my understanding from what is in that thread https://forums.galciv2.com/316924
Couldn't you, at the least, simply tar up all the data files and executables for the old version and the new, and simply provide us with a list of what was tarred, and the .diff file?
Which old version? Standalone patchs were made to patch the retail version 1.0 to the latest version. Impulse allows you get only the files that need to be changed.
You download a game, archive it to a flash drive, take it home, unarchive it and voila.
Well, it is less simple than that : - Impulse must be installed on Internet connected computer. You must have a supported OS for impulse and the sufficient rights to install Impulse and its pre requisites - you must be able to download and archive the game (no need to install it) on the internet connected computer - you must install Impulse on the o
Well, I would have sworn to have previousy posted the following, but who knows ...
v2.0 will be an update for both Twilight and Dark Avatar players
Wasn't GC2 2.0 be supposed to be also an update (even if small) for DL as indicated in the following thread https://forums.galciv2.com/311088 :
Then, probably in July or maybe early August we will be releasing Galactic Civilizations II v2.0. This update will affect all versions of GalCiv II but mostly Dark Avatar and Twilight
also particularly damming if the argument of Impulse being de facto DRM introduced by an anti-DRM ever gets going.
Well Stardock's philosophy on DRM and copy protection has been since Galciv 1 in 2003: reward people for being customer than pirate. This translate into: no DRM/copy protection on the retail version no draconinan control about the number of times you are installing the game on various computers. const
i have 100Mb/sec at work, and limited bandwidth at home with expensive charges at home for exceeding this.
You could use then the download and arcgive feature of impulse.
on top of this, when i come back to play the game in a few years using my favourite mods i want to be able to select the patch the mod was made to work under.
You should be able to create archive of the current version with impulse. You should try the restore process to
i do not see how "Impulse" will make it better?
By downloading only the required files instead of getting a big patch that can be applied on version 1.0 (retail version). Less donwload size and less bandwith usage. And you just have to click "update" instead of going to a specific web page, dowloading the patch and launching the patch to install it. But I guess everybody has its own way to measure which thing is better ;)
