Distinguished Leaders, Has there been a change to the size of the Galaxies? I've been selecting smaller games, just to get a feel for the game, but it seems that the galaxies are bigger than what's stated in the manual. Here's what I've discovered: Size -- Manual Says - What I see Tiny ------ 3 x 3 ---- 4 x 4 Small ----- 4 x 4 ---- 5 x 5 Medium ---- 5 x 5 ---- 8 x 8 Large ----- 8 x 8 --- 12 x 12 Huge ----- 10 x 10 -- 16 x 16 Gigantic - 12 x 12 -- 28 x 28

Thanks for the replies. I'm still interested in figuring out how the scoring works. I've just won a military conquest, destroying all in my path and taking relatively few casualties (compared to my vanquinshed enemies), yet my military score was 299, compared to 2000+ for economic and social scores. I'm sure the scoring makes sense once you understand it, but right now, it's very mysterious. Phemur

Greetings! I'm running my first game as an evil empire, and my goal is to acheive a military victory. To acheive this end, my researchers are focused on military technology. As I was trying to determine the path to Dreadnought technology, I noticed that I could research Hyperwarp. Without it, I can't get Large Scale Building, and from what I can tell, all ships beyond Battleships are unavailable to me. Is this right? Seems like an awfully big limitations on evil player

Honorable Galactic Leaders, I've finished my second first games of Galactic Civilization this morning, and since I did relatively well, I rushed over to the Metaverse to see my score. After taking a look at my profile, I was a little shocked and confused by what I saw. 1 - The second game I played was in a small galaxy (4 x 4), but my profile says it was tiny (3 x 3) 2 - My game score was 3456, but the score registered for the Metaverse was 2911 3 - My two games played

All, I've just picked up my copy of Galactic Civilization, and since registration opened up the door to the forums to me, I figured I'd introduce myself. So, hello! I look forward to reading everyone's posts. With that said, I have a question. I've been out of Sci-Fi strategy games, and while I was reading up on GalCiv, I noticed that 4X games was used to describe sci-fi strat games. Could someone explain where that term came from? Google didn't provide much help.
