That is not the only "Stupid Random Event", I've lost count of the number of times I've seen the "All uninhabited planets in the xxxx system improved by yy PQ points" when the xxxx system has no uninhabited planets to improve. That is just the most obvious, other daft events include banning Terror Stars when their development is still a long way off, I'm sure all players have noticed similar doh! events. It can't be that hard for the program to check to see if a random event is logical
Finally never 'finish' a game before 2190. It cuts your score in half (or there abouts.)
I've always wondered about this, all the Civ type games seem to penalize early wins. Why? If I've played a faultless game and managed to win before the AI players have even built up I really think I should get double the score, not half. A possible ateration to the scoring would be for the program to wait until all the useful stars are colonized, then see what percentage

I save the game at the start, sometimes I'll return to that and re-play the map in a diffent way, the game is completely different but the starting checksums would of course be the same. So if I submitted the scores of both to the MV either the 2nd would be ignored or it would replace the 1st. Either is a bit cheesy if you've fairly played both games, but quite proper if you're trying to fiddle the scores. So is there any way around this problem, the only one I can think of is

Is there anything to stop someone from as suggested above saving a few goes before the end then repeatedly finishing the game and submitting a slightly different end-of-game several times for the same game? I make no accusations as I can't be bothered to submit any games, but I've noticed in this forum some people commenting on how some players seem to play an astonishing number of games - coincidence? - We'll never know ;p
I think it may be possible to use transports to shift population around.
You can use transports on multi-planet systems to even out the population (load and unload, maybe several times, and the populations will tend towards parity) but not to distribute preferentialy. Ideally there would be intra-system transports which would automatically distribute people from overcrowded planets to less crowded ones. In RL overcrowded populations move to more att
I have seen AI systems with half the pop on the lowest PQ planet
It seems that when it comes to loading colony ships AI stands for "Actually Idiotic" as it always seems to load up 50% population which always leads to the situation you described - Come on guys fix this stupidity.
sheet of paper
Pah, old technology. BTW I've often thought it would be very useful and brain-numbingly simple to program a integrated persistant text scratch pad into the game, then you wouldn't have to fart about with bits of paper. It could even automatically make notes of start and duration of trade deals etc.
Put one three sqares away and you're on a winner.
Yeah, I realized that after I posted the message, but felt it was too trivial to go back and alter. Sometimes it's almost as if the Sharks have minds of their own as they flatly refuse to follow the lure, but mostly they are pretty complient, if you can keep one wandering around for long enough the can get stupidly powerful, I once tried herding the 3 zoo escapees until they were as strong as they could get,
No that was not after. He first published 3 months before Einstein did in 1905. The problem is that he did so in a mathematical review, not a physics review
Fair enough, I must say I felt a bit guilty about the tone of my earlier message, but hell it was Friday afternoon & I was bored! The points made by others that the interpretation of the theory rather than the formulation was the greater acheivment are almost certainly true. But there is still a valid poi
E = mc2 was discovered by Mathematician Poincare
Cor, is your name Stalin by any chance, this is the sort of revisionist rewriting of history from partisan attitudes normally associated with the former CCCP. While Jules Henri Poincaré was most certainly a great universalist mathematician, he is probably best known for his work on Newtons 3 body problem, diophantine equations and of course the Poincaré Conjecture. He certainly did some work on the Sp

Ember All this has been thrashed out in the "Wasting money when not building anything?" Thread http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=132094 I suggest you read that one then if you come up with a better solution than any of the ones there, please suggest it. However don't expect much on this until the next major revision. Regards. [Message Edited]
Where on earth do you live?
Earth? that crappy little backward class 17ish (and dropping) planet, not me guv. Seriously though I still think the best all round solution is to give the governors the option to balance their budget as they see fit, this as has been stated allows a degree of micro-management, but at the discretion of the player rather than a function of the game dynamics. What we have at the moment is the pretty much worst of all possible so
Hey, we can just go on and on with this...
OK, no problem... One could be very picky indeed, almost every message in this thread contains some errors in spelling or grammer (this one included). Nobody seems to have noticed "lastest" which to the best of my knowledge does not exist. And that proper nouns, new paragraphs etc. should start with capitals. On "spelled", that is the American spelling, the International/British spelling is "spelt" not "spelled

In this game universe instant transmission of matter is plainly possible, after all there are the wormhole anomalies dotted about. What would interesting as a possible option is that these anomalies should be persistant, and once a survey ship has been through, any ship should be able to use the wormhole (with a very small chance of loosing the ship).
About maintenance costs: Have you tried to park lots of Antimatter missile in orbit of your planets? You end up with a high military power for a small maintenace
AMMs are cheap fun for all the family, but that fails to address the production problem, also AMMs are not a lot of good when you want to invade, however a load of AMMs followed by a hoard of transports and some defenders to keep the aquisitions works a treat. Also the defensive value of AMMs is close to
why not build them the first time
Simple - Cash Flow I try to avoid conflict (hey, just like RL) so there is no point in wasting the maintenance overhead. My best few planets however always have all the military stuff. But should a major conflagration erupt, I can quickly switch over to full high quality military production. It really shocks the alien scum when a few goes after they declared war thinking I just had a few weak ships, I suddenly have a ma
Why can't you accept to loose social spending instead of affecting to improvement that you don't want (which as nearly the same effect than loosing social spending)?
It's not quite the same, with a load of part finished buildings I can go from non-shipbuilding (+5% Ship Quality) to fully shipyarded (+105% SQ) in 4 or 5 months.
