I have only had a cursory look at DirecTV's services but couldn't find any internet--which at the time had left me wishing I had Dish (that and they show current episodes of Eastenders, a Brit soap I LOVE!!). I also haven't found a wireless company that will install without having DSL first. I think I might call Verizon and see if they will allow me to have dry-loop DSL (without the phone). I know they allow it in businesses (we have it at work) but I don't know if they would allow it for res

This terminology pisses me off to the nth degree. As the father of 6 children, and having experienced the prejudice that accompanies it, I can tell you there are a lot of judgemental prigs who look down on us for our six "punishments", while we see each and every one of our children as gifts from God that we deeply cherish. I understand your point, while also firmly believing that it is wrong to "force" a woman to have a baby. That said, I can't ever im
did say almost You are right. I apologize for mischaracterizing. But I think I showed some very prominant ones that disagreed, so "almost all" still doesn't sit well with me. We are also going to have to agree to disagree on Jefferson. While your final quote clearly references the Bible, the other two merely suggest Deism to me. He believes in a Supreme Being, but it is not conclusive that the Supreme Being is Jesus. I know I apologized for

I Know of NO Christians that believe the ACLU is on their side. NOT ONE. Maybe you should meet more Christians then. You certainly don't have a monopoly on the religion, nor do you speak for all Christians. Some of us are quite happy with the separation of Church and State and would like to see it not only maintained, but strengthened.
First a clarification, the Treaty of Tripoli was first taken up under the Washington Administration and signed into law by Adams after being ratified by the Senate. Sorry for that mistake. BTW Shades, I never said Christ's name was mentioned in the Documents No, you said almost all founding fathers talked about putting our trust in Christ. The emphasis in my commment: "but it is still only one person, not "the founding fathers"" di
I've read most of the comments on LW thread and here. For those of you who don't know, I should start by saying I am very pro-choice. I believe that the decision is between a woman and her God -- and it is a decision that I hope never to be in the situation to have to make. All that said, I echo Senator McCaskill's comments that abortions should be safe, legal and rare. And I would add that they should occur as early in the pregancy as possible. With all my biases and prejudices out
Hi meg sweetie good to see yer name Hey MM. Good to "see" you too. I'm going on vacation next week and will have better access to email/internet, so expect to see more of me. John Jay mentioned Jesus. And he was appointed by those guys you're mentioning to be the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
The majority of the information in the following reply came from: http://www.earlyamerica.com/review/summer97/secular.html Jesus Christ was named by almost all our founders as the one we put our trust in. Where? Jesus Christ is not named in any of the "founding" document that I am aware of and the idea that the majority of the country at the time of its founding were practicing Christians doesn't seem supportable. eek -- if you go, you need to definitely keep emailing me... i'm hardly around here anymore but it is because I don't have internet at home anymore...but it is always nice to see a blog from you... are you still planning a road trip? PS. Hi Mack -- always good to "see" you too!!
Really, there isn't a back and forth thingie between myself and Texas and certanly no problem here on my part. Her calling for a barfing smily only told me she doesn't understand Catholicism...and that's OK. Funny, I agreed with Tex's comment, and I'm a catholic -- do I not understand catholicism as well? Maybe you don't mean to be, but you come across as very condescending and judgemental.
I'm late to the party-- but glad to see you are feeling better today -- and that you are making cute new friends!
Good article terp. The owners don't really seem to be clued into DC at all. I don't know what our tickets choices are in the new stadium, but was surprised to see that our tickets (and by "our" I mean the company I work for) jumped from $45 per seat to $50. Even without the lobbying ban, these tickets are useless to us because they exceed the gift limit by one penny. You'd think that the owners would realize that the "business" in DC is politics and that you price the tickets so that the lob
I'm very angry with the Pres right now because his bullshit immigration plan is causing a deep fracture in the Republican Party, a fracture I think will widen as we approach 2008 Actually this might have something to do with the reason why the man's starting to grow on me.
Adorable -- does this mean your video camera is working again? Your voice is so not how I would have imagined it...

If I never hear someone make jokes about obscure Malaysian ministers, or start a sentence with "When I volunteered in the Andes as {insert pious do-gooder mission here}..." again I'll know there is a god. I think I know the type. When I was trying to get into the US Foreign Service I went to a bunch of events and prep sessions for the tests. I used to place bets on when the first person would chime in with "Last year, I singlehanddly brought water and e
I've instead found it boring, intellectually stifling and a black hole that sucks at my soul. I feel like we work in the same place.
Does anyone know if you can really resit the exam 6 times? If so, I have absolutely no sympathy.
my "welcome" article is going to be pointless, vacuous, and vapid. You'll fit right in Welcome aboard!
Very valid point -- I don't know enough about the case to comment on this one specifically. I was actually thinking more about the guy I knew who was killed in February by a drunk driver who was three times the limit. I could be wrong, but I would think that you have to be showing *some* signs at that point. Additionally, the bar staff would know how much they served. If you are serving drink #15, and you see him pulling out the keys-- you've got a problem.
Now his father is suing the restaurant that served Hancock, the manager of the restaurant, the tow truck driver, and the driver whose car was stalled on the side of the road necessitating the tow. While I agree that this is crazy -- I would like to see more restaurants/bars held responsible for over-serving. It is illegal (I believe in every state, but if not, in most) to serve someone to the point of intoxication, and to continue serving someone who is
congrats sally! It's lovely to see you happy.
I'm Not? Yikes.......... Well meg I use to be, does that count? Sure. Why not. I didn't realize I was so important. Nice to be important, isn't it? Not all of the stuff I read was on JU. This was just where I first heard of it. And I've seen a lot of "ding dong the w
Well, most of the comments seem pretty happy to see him go But who were the tolerant preaching lefties you wrote about. I saw Terp write an article (I certainly don't think he's a lefty), Tex commented (okay, there's one lefty for you, but I saw no grave dancing), Modman put in his two cents (he's certainly not a liberal), and then the liberal/libertarian Sean offered his condolences to the family. So, who are you referring to when you say t
