Just to clarify, is that several crickets each chirping individually ? 'Cos I think once a cricket gets the knack of chirping and can do one straight after the other - the chirp is promoted to a chirrup. If it is just the one cricket chirruping, what are the odds it's wondering where all the other crickets go after midnight?
