Question for Technician:

Question for Technician:

Here it is:

"Dude. What is UP, man?!"

I don't begrudge anyone their talents for the game, and in fact am highly admiring of anyone who can put in the time and study to excel at anything in life, but this guy is pumping out two or three gigantic/maso victories PER DAY for the past, what... half year or so? What is UP?

Other questions are:

1. How long does each one generally take?
2. How does it not get boring doing the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over again? (At least, when you look at the game record, it looks somewhat repetitive... maybe each of the games is a new, exciting adventure, I dunno.)

I'm afraid this message will sound accusatory, trust me that I don't mean it to. I'm just curious how (and why!) he does it.

I mean, even on Large, the only games I've played which took less than three or four hours were ones that I lost quickly (and there were a LOT of them, don't you worry!)

Is this just a ONE-MAN GC WRECKING CREW or what?

(If this has been discussed before, just point the way. I did a search but failed at finding anything.)

I would think if we truely want to incourage activity anybody active would qualify for the Senate.

So has who gets to be the emperor.
End of quote

The most active player ?

Which does not mean highest scoring player.
would we all have to talk in strange deep voices

Excuse me my eyes are also glowing :D

If it make you feel better you can play Thor.

This is why i'm staying put and NOT moving into a larger , higher ranked empire

We're smaller than anyone. We have no members at all.

Matthew, you call those references obscure? I got about a quarter of them. Or does that make me obscure? LOL LOL

The Foundation sounds cool, but for a new empire in a place nearing the end of its operational life, it doesn't work well. Keep it in mind for GCII, and you have a cool name.

Asimov's Foundation was a new, energetic interstellar federation of planets that rose up to replace the decadent empire that had dominated the galaxy for far too long. Seems quite appropriate to me.

According to my hazy recollections of this conversation so far, we have the following leading nominations:

Name:
Geeks in Space
The Hitch-Hikers
Max Power
The System Lords
The Time Lords
The Yor Masters
Something else

Emperor:
Matthew Downie
Technician
Someone else

Anything else that needs adding?

Cool are you calling the Guardians decandent ? :)

I don't know what could have given you that idea. ;)
Let's me check my dictionary to see if that's appropriate...
decadent (noun) In decline; engaging in unrestrained self-indulgent gratification.
Actually, that sounds kind of fun.

Matthew if you want to be Emperor that is fine with me but can you do us a favor if you ever need to move on just let the remanding Overlords know so we can vote an replacement.

Out of all the choices listed I like

The System Lords

The Hitch-Hikers, on what

Max Power, ?

The System Lords, First choice

The Time Lords, not liking this time ?

Ok.. you bunch of "Ego Mainiacs" ...

Some Day Someone will get fed up with you guys on top.. and do the same to you... its not a case of who's on top.. but by how much they are on top by... It demoralizes the rest...

If you disagree then wqhy are you out to buil;d an "Uber Empire" of very active players... if not to try to dethrone anothewr "Uber Empire" If and when StarFleet becomes an "Uber Empre" like 1st place is at the moment.. I myself would suggest that some players re-diostribute into other empires to make the metaverse more Fun and challenging to all.. This encourages all to try for the top.. Sure vwe could make an "Ultra Uber Empure" where we have all the Active players in it... but what would be the point of empires then....

Do you see what I mean.....
Am I being Stupid...
Can anyone out there hear me....
are you all that blind that you can't see whats happening...
What your doing is just as bad for the metaverse as 1st place has done...

We need Diversaty... not a Monopoly....
Think about it....

This is true. But the diversity must come from the mutual relationships that develop when those with common goals gather to help each other meet those goals. We encourage you to join with others that you find with a common interest. Most of us in the Guardians already have.

You have a lot of confidence in us. It's a bit soon to start criticising us for being too dominating.
I'm trying to attract enough active members to take us into first place, because I'm interested to see if we can do it. Whether we're trying to grab hold of all active players is irrelevant, since we obviously wouldn't succeed.
I'm inclined to agree that it's not a good thing for one empire to build up an unshakeable lead. That's one of my motivations - ending the situation where no-one can possibly defeat the Guardians. If we get to the state where we have a similar lead (and that doesn't seem likely), I might propose a split. Or maybe GalCiv 2 will come out and everything will be levelled and we'll start again.

Diversity doesn't worry me... I think of it more in terms of how many active players there are to be shared around.
A good empire has a certain number of active players, about the right amount that there's usually someone online to chat to when you want to chat.
The Guardians, in their prime, were too crowded for my taste. It got to the point where it was almost impossible to keep up with reading their thread.
The Fellowship, with two active members, is too small.
To increase the number of successful active empires, we have to be willing to break up old empires and combine into new ones.

Well, anyway, it's my bedtime. Good night, everybody.

To be summoned to be a senator, you must: be a Canadian citizen; be at least 30 years of age; own $4,000 of equity in land in your province; have a personal net worth of $4,000; and live in the province that you will represent as a senator.

You missed the most important unwritten rule. Donate 300,000 into the Prime Ministers personnal acount. Which was true when Brian Mulruney was our Prime Minister. >:(

Matthew you cannot be to successful. I loved the glory days of the Guardians when you had to read the posts 3 times a day just keep up. It was funny, entertaining and sometimes even brilliant. I hope you can recapture it in your new venture.

We are a decadent "Uber Empire"? :) I like that! :D

We didn't set out to be an Uber Empire. We set out to see how good we could be. We had a lot of fun doing it, too. :)

Still not sure about being Emperor. While I do have a natural desire to glorify myself and order gigantic statues built of me in cities across the world, I don't want to jeopardise the success of The System Lords. So, who'd be the most popular emperor?
Technician's phenomenal score guarantees him a high profile, and I imagine he's gained a lot of friends along the way. He's also in a more practical time zone. Also, I may be too arrogant and cynical to inspire others.
But will Technician burn out and retire, like the other scoreboard leaders did? And will he allow me to be a sinister power-behind-the-throne?

Technician, if you want to hammer out some details, I can be emailed on [email protected].

I like to get Newfy to drop by as well.

What say you Newfy would you object to me taking over as Emperor ?

I would think this is the best way to proceed,

Rename the Crazy Canucks to the "System Lords" if we are agreed that is the name we are going for.

and

I will be the Emperor if we are also agreed.

I think all you have to do to change the Emperor for an existing Empire is Email Stardock.

The Diplomats done it a few times (:(

My Email Addess email:[email protected]

It may be wise to set-up a private area on the Diplomats Forum ? If I ask nice I am sure VoT would set us up.

Ok, guys this is madness. An anti-Guardians empire? This place is just happy competition, not dragging a bunch of good people through the mud because they have done well. Remember Renegade's little Yor empire because his fights with Terl? http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?id=167914&BID=GE&page=1#168013 There's the thread. I've stopped this once, and I don't want to do it again. Its bloody idiotic. Play for fun, and try to get to the top, but don't intend to drag those at the top through the mud.

VoT,

I am really tired of saying this, I have nothing against the Guardians.

There are no other Empires that are active, and so what competition are you talking about.

I am sick of playing in a Empire where I am almost the only active player, like say me and Piece Phoenix :( .

So my objectives are create an Empire where active players, can play and talk about the game; and if we add a level of competition to the Metaverse it will be friendly competition.

What choice do we have, join the Guardians ?
Where would be the competition in that ?

Renegade had the right idea, may have been a little bitter to say the least, but this was ancient history.

Really the Guardians are a great group and if you do not mind me saying they need no help from you.

Well, I am still in one part LOL

I don't think it was the intent. Don't forget that Renegade enjoys to make lots of posts. It this that point that was really annoying since he has targeted someone to harrass.

And any empire must have a goal, something to unite member. Climbing at the top could be one.

Matthew Downie wrote in post #78

Maybe we should go back to an earlier idea and call it Civaholics Anonymous. The theme could be players who are hopelessly addicted to GalCiv and other strategy games. The two advantages are (a) we'd attract all the most active players, and (b) if any of our players retired, we could count that as a victory.
End of quote

I haven't see much reply to this proposal. I though it would be very accurate since some people want to leave their empire since it seems that their companions aren't enough addicted LOL LOL

There is very little addtion to GC as a game, it is the Meta that has caused the addition. It seems to motivate peoplel more to climb to the top in competition with other people then to kill aliens that have a good AI, but are still dumb, i.e., they behave the same way game after game. Once you know what they will do, you have learned how to outsmart them. What GC needs is a "learning" AI to acquire skills from the players they play against.
