Wow! That was hard work - just how does anyone win on maso even folloqing those tips from Cotal? Still i had a famous comback on my first "Normal" level game to win from being in last place at one point! :HOT:

Most games it seems you start out alittle or alot behind. You just need to keep plowing forward and hopefully make the right decisions about who to befriend and what techs to buy and trade.
Hmmm, I've noticed kinds of recurring patterns in my games. Often I don't bother researching military techs early on, then either when the opportunity presents itself, or when I get threatened, I quickly research defensive tech up to sheilds and build a load of battle axes, min one per star system. Before that I manage to get by with a zero war fleet.

If I end up in war, then usually those battle axes are plenty good enough for defense early on. The enemy just plows ship after ship into my planets, their military rating goes down and my front line planet battle axes get tonnes of experience. I never bother building star fighters or defenders.

Well I finished that 'good' game I mentioned, however I lost. (:(

Think it was a bad omen, I'll stick to being evil in future, its what I'm good at... :HOT:

Comiserations on your loss. :( Are you starting again from scratch with a new game or do you have a save point to go back to?

I've thought of a story line around my origins: I'll email it to you both once I've typed it up so you can incoporate it as you feel fit into the story of the cooperative.

Bad form to follow up my own post I know but I just thought I'd mention this. After the discussion on the subject in another thread, I decided that it wasn't worth submitting my losing scores. Given the way that they combine you effectively get less credit for a later score much nearer your normal level.
Well, I wouldn't normally play out a game in which I was losing that badly, partly because of the score, and partly because I don't enjoy playing out being that helpless. The reason I submitted it this time is because I had no other scores in my third month block, and am unlikely to submit any other scores until my forth month block (which is about a week away or less). Normally, if you are submitting several game per month, then not submiting losses is a good idea. In this one case however, a couple hundred points is beter than zero points.

Well gents I posted another game which moved us up the proverbial ladder.Hopefully we can keep moving up but it seems we move up to only get pushed down again. But lets keep plugging along and maybe in the next year we can break the top ten.

I also just broke into the top 100 for the first time ever!!Hopefully I can submit enough games to stay there awhile.

Happy converting!! :CONGRAT:

Well, I've also submitted a personal record score to move us just behind Arnor. That Huge map meant it took forever to get my party palaces into position though! In the end I could be bothered to try and culture flip the last Altarian world and just annihilated it :D Mwahahahaa.

Perhaps we also need to keep advertising for more recruits to help us in our Metaverse quest.
Always advertise for more recruits! But a decent game or two will probably vault your empire up two spots.
BTW fellow Pangaeanists, what Government type do you prefer? I have tended to stick to Universalists.
I try different ones depending on the type of game I want to play. The three that I like best are the universalists, populists, and the pacifists. Then I augment my starting party with additional bonus points.Sometimes I will try to get a lot of smaller bonuses and then build several survey ships on the larger map sizes to help pump up the bonus values.I had at end games sometimes a half dozen stats well into the 200% range without help from the starbase abilities.Until recently I tried gigantic only couple times as my computer was in need of an upgrade that was completed recently and nowI try large or better. With more than one survey vessel you get most of anomaly bonuses as the cpu AI survey ships get killed early and don't build another until rangers come out and not sure if they use them to scout anomalies.

Well we've regained our spot in front of Arnor with our scores today. :HOT: I adopted a more militarstic approach at the end which I think boosted my score to a new personal record and gave me a certain cathartic release as I annihilated the opposition ;) Then again, mabe it was just the new scoring system :notsure:

Hey thanks MM77! We'll have to put that song on our empire page! This time of year is always real busy for me, one of my secret societies always has a meeting around halloween, I've just passed my girlfriends birthday, and this year things have been worse than most...

I plan to be back in action this week, although I'll be away this weekend. I really appreciate the work Eradicus has done to keep this empire alive.

As for government types. I have recently been playing Federalists with extra economy bonuses. You know, eradicus, I too usually build a lot of survey ships, but I didn't in my 'good' game that I lost. I wonder if missing out on the bonuses the extra survey ships usually got me lead to my downfall on that one?

I'll definitely have to bear this one in mind. Oh, and later in the game, when you have the tech to build more advanced survey ships, there never seems to be much left to survey, and the newer ships never get quite as strong as the old survey craft that have been building up strength for years. Is that because of the order I research techs? Going for all the influence techs early as possible?
