I just noticed that since I submited a game, my nice former top 25 medal disappeared! it was nice having it even though it was a fake .
Only a few thousand points (hundred thousands actually, but once it's beyond 100000, who cares... )to get to the real one.

Yes, they seem to have "fixed" the medals. Sorry.

The only annoying problems I had were: a non buildable paladin (althought I sent my save to Cari, and she told me that it builded it fine on her PC -- I restarted the game I sent her, and still could not build it ... go figure???). One invisible bug star (towards the end, that caused a CTD and made the save I made & the autosave unloadable, but the previous worked fine -- I set it to save every two turns now). The third thing I forgot. Wasn't that important. Some people have been having more trouble with it, but on my machine it works fine and make things really more interesting.

Yes, I remember now: towards the end, and for +/- 10-15 years one of the new AI stopped all military spending! They went from broke to richest from being behind in tech to first, etc. It was a clear demonstration of how military expenditure can be a burden to a nation. In this particular case, the only downside was being invaded by me, a former ally (*treatorous smile*). It wasn't my intention, but the last bug (I noticed) is that all victory conditions are off, except military. I was aiming at an alliance vic, and was forced to "assimilate" my allies. In this instace, resistance was futile .

Regarding that AI, I must say that it was in an alliance of three (with me + altarians) and I had taken out it's enemies (or was doing it quickly). By the end of the war they had no ships left, they were like -3000,and I gave then 2600 in order to allow them to restart producing. Sqince there were no ennemies left maybe it thought the galaxy was safe and stopped those expenses. Well they should have know that sometimes a bug can make even the most trusted ally turn on you

What are the new races like?

AP sounds pretty good. I will be signing up for Drengin.net soon. I am waiting for the later builds...

I did not get to play last night as I had to do a bit of maintenance on my wife's pc. Hopefully the weather guys are wrong and the snow will skip on by so I can play tonight instead of cleaning up snow.

I don't really know how to describe them. The Korx Syndicated managed to stay to the end of my (small) game. They are the ones who stopped military spending.

The other ones (Drath I think) gave up right from the beggining, so I don't even remember their faces.

In the game I played I had the feeling that alliances worked better, with less repetitive wars. Specially the treaties window looks great now: it has lines going in all directions, all colors , all over the place. It's harder to manage having good relations with everyone, since there is always someone at war, and you can't stay pals to both sides. By the way, alignement seemed to matter a lot in that case (maybe it was just a coincidence).
And since minors are strong too, there is really a lot of people in the galaxy now, as well it should be.

Going back to the korx, they made a really nice start. We were friends almost at once. The only problem is taht their influence color is the same as the Drengin in the minimap, so I had the impression that the Drengin had, right of the bath, 2/3 of the galaxy under their influence (how cute their femeles must be, i thought, until I realized my mistake ).

And I had a revolution event, very nice: everybody was pissed off at me on my planets, and then revolution. Only problem: no planets broke off (as it is supposed to). May theory is that both my planets broke off ( ) so that no change was noticeble, except for the thousands of bc's I received: I guess the revolutionaries seized all the goods from the former ruler (an homonym of mine, also called Nastavnik ) and and sold it to the best bidder! I went from -5000 before to 10040 after... I kind saved me. . I guess one revolution from time to time is not a bad thing

We have some on the ground of course. I am talking about the latest storm coming today through tomorrow. I think the city will get hit worse than us in the upstate areas (I am about 3 hrs drive north of NYC).

AP sounds interesting.....looking forward to the final release.....I pre-ordered the CD.

I don't now when there will be a next one Terl, but this one looks pretty solid to me (putting aside the 2-3 problems I pointed). there is also something of a bug with the rallypoints, but since I never used them I wouldn't know. It is worth a try, even like it is now. And I must say, it's hard to go back to "good'old" galciv. I'm eager to have some documentation on the scenario editor and triggered events. It looks really nice . I'd say it's reason enough to get Drengin (besides the supporting stardock and the fact that there is an incoming beta of political machine, which looks cool too).

Well, that settles it. I'm going to d/l AP sometime this week (if I get time).

Just to be on the safe side: It should install itself to another directory, but it doesn't cost anything to double check that... Neither does archiving your previous version of the game, you never know. (I mention this because I promise myself to do these exact same things everytime a new build is available, and I always forget. Including this time...)

The way paydays work out, I will be getting it either this week or two weeks from now (drengin.net that is). I am trying to stretch my year as far as I can I am not in a hurry anyway. I have enough problems with the races that are available now

Thank god for now in France we have "Sécurité Sociale" which covers up most health things (except contact lenses and dentist, I'm still paying for the later, 8 months after he finished the work... --ie turturing me on his chair-- ). But that's about to change (they're about to "reform" it...) and we will find ourselves in a just as bad situation as 50 million americans (well, maybe not that bad... for now...).

Not serious as in life threatening in any way. It is diagnostic stuff for my wife. We don't have a health insurance system like yours so we have copays, deductibles, and other out-of-pocket costs. Some companies have better, some worse, and some have little if any. Big issue here...



I have always wondered what goes through a young man's head when he decides to do that for a living... really, dentistry, funeral homes, proctology.... I could see fireman, policeman, soldier...

Jobs that never get cut. These are actually great careers compared to firefighter (dangerous), police officer (see firefighter), soldier (ummm...crazy dangerous).

Think about it...

Dentist: We all need to have our teeth cleaned and the most dangerous thing about it is somebody might bite your finger.

Funeral Director: Everybody dies. There's never a shortage of product to make money on. And nothing's safer, they're already dead! I've got a couple of funeral director friends.

Proctologist: Just like opinions, everyone's got one. And they need to be checked occasionally. Just watch out for the explosions!!!

Yes and since most of the time we go to them in some excruciating pain they can charge whatever they want. Just make it go away !!!
I think the most terrible torture scene I saw in a movie (in the sense that I felt it physically), is in Marathon Man, where Dustin Hofman meets that crazy nazi-dentist.
