The first question will be who did it. The second question will be what to do in response to them. The economic results could be reather severe. The United States has just lost 1 business day already with another one likely. We're basically shut down here at Stardock today. Everyone is crowding into the main lab watching the TV. Others have gone home already.

There are about 250 Litestep modules, a lot of which are duplicates. There aren't as many DX plugins yet but there are about three dozen floating out there that do everything from stock tickers, weather, time of day, moon phases, news tickers, virtual desktops, trash cans, printer monitors, CPU monitors, disk monitors, MP3 players, etc. Then there are plugins like DXToys that just do a ton of different things. The cool thing about DX is that you can use it with any s

Stardock is making available a stand alone shareware version of the ObjectBar beta to WinCustomize supporters. Users who have purchased a T-shirt or CD or hat or whatever here will be receiving an email from WinCustomize with a link to download the shareware version. It'll eventually be made available to the general public but this is a way of thanking those who are supporting the site financially. If you already have Object Desktop, 0.60 will be available there too. 0.60 is

I highly recommend checking out Crae's insightful article at Tek. It looks back on the world of skinning in the past year: http://www.teknidermy.net/article.php3?title=25&issue=6&volume=1 I really enjoyed the article. Though I disagree with the view that things look bleak. But I can see where he's coming from. The skin community is rapidly approaching a cross roads. Actually, an on-ramp may be a better analogy. The release of Windows XP is likely to completely put ski

Essentially what happened was that the company who owned it, eFront, was one of the many casaulties of the dot-bomb collapse. When they ran out of money, they didn't pay their admins at sites like skinz.org. But they handled the situation so poorly that they alienated the community of users that hung around there. Most of the users that were there moved here or DeviantArt.

No, nothing like that presently. DX can do that since thre's animation and other states can be compressed. But in WB, your windows are always there. Only when they're minimized would that make sense and then it coudl cause a minute performance hit. Memory use by WB 2 isn't too bad, WB 3 is much better so the biggest thing we have to keep focused on is speed. People wouldn't stand for saving 100K of RAM if it meant a 10% speed hit.
