As opposed to what, FR?

The first question will be who did it. The second question will be what to do in response to them. The economic results could be reather severe. The United States has just lost 1 business day already with another one likely. We're basically shut down here at Stardock today. Everyone is crowding into the main lab watching the TV. Others have gone home already.
Indeed. We're all in shock here.
Please give a moment of silence for the victims of the the cowardly terrorists.
Heck, today a P-400 or lower is low end. /me has a p2-400.
There are about 250 Litestep modules, a lot of which are duplicates. There aren't as many DX plugins yet but there are about three dozen floating out there that do everything from stock tickers, weather, time of day, moon phases, news tickers, virtual desktops, trash cans, printer monitors, CPU monitors, disk monitors, MP3 players, etc. Then there are plugins like DXToys that just do a ton of different things. The cool thing about DX is that you can use it with any s
Stardock is making available a stand alone shareware version of the ObjectBar beta to WinCustomize supporters. Users who have purchased a T-shirt or CD or hat or whatever here will be receiving an email from WinCustomize with a link to download the shareware version. It'll eventually be made available to the general public but this is a way of thanking those who are supporting the site financially. If you already have Object Desktop, 0.60 will be available there too. 0.60 is
Yea, one thing we've been desperately short on here are skins, icons, and themes that make Windows look like XP...
That's a pretty good idea actually Chris.
ObjectBar has been designed with utility value as its highest concern. The fact that it can be made to look beautiful so easily is practically a miracle. Looking at the attached screenshot, one gets an idea of how far ObjectBar has come. Feature wise, it's got some great utilitarian f
DesktopX is designed to give your existing shell object oriented features and OO themes.

Cool setup there with the speakers!
Isn't ess-vid the same age as you? Both of you are like 20 right?
Well all I can say about melodrama is that skinning is going to destroy life as we know it! There are various nightmarish ways to go mainstream. Go to www.ezthemes.com to see what I mean.
Admittedly, this site is modeled after skinz.org in many ways. But no site can ever replace skinz.org. Skinz.org was my home.
I highly recommend checking out Crae's insightful article at Tek. It looks back on the world of skinning in the past year: http://www.teknidermy.net/article.php3?title=25&issue=6&volume=1 I really enjoyed the article. Though I disagree with the view that things look bleak. But I can see where he's coming from. The skin community is rapidly approaching a cross roads. Actually, an on-ramp may be a better analogy. The release of Windows XP is likely to completely put ski
Essentially what happened was that the company who owned it, eFront, was one of the many casaulties of the dot-bomb collapse. When they ran out of money, they didn't pay their admins at sites like skinz.org. But they handled the situation so poorly that they alienated the community of users that hung around there. Most of the users that were there moved here or DeviantArt.
I just linked to your article on the articles section on the bottom left. It's a good article, I'll try to make a post about it to get some discussion going.
l0c, your argument falls apart because the person making the post isn't asking to hack it himself, he wants other people to do it for him so that he can add additional skins to XP.
No, nothing like that presently. DX can do that since thre's animation and other states can be compressed. But in WB, your windows are always there. Only when they're minimized would that make sense and then it coudl cause a minute performance hit. Memory use by WB 2 isn't too bad, WB 3 is much better so the biggest thing we have to keep focused on is speed. People wouldn't stand for saving 100K of RAM if it meant a 10% speed hit.
If you want to join us on IRC, load up your favorite IRC program and go to irc.stardock.com. There is a #stardock channel and a #wincustomize channel. Hope to see you there!
BTW, AJ's article is up on the left side under articles.
Yea, the caps are great. Until we made them, we were totally unaware that asbestas could be used as a clothing material...
