Sell your son to a travelling circus.... ...or for medical research.... ....get SOME value from the critter....
LOL! Kids have a hard time believing that a parent might know as much, or more, about computers....at least, my kid does. At least he doesn't crash my computer anymore like he used to...[e digicons][/e]

YEA!!!!! I finally got it fixed...I had to do a wipe and re-install of Windows 7...I had some borked registry settings from some software my son installed! Anyway, right after I got Windows installed, and before I installed my Security software...I hopped on over here and got Impulse installed from the link on my personal site! Then, I was able to install WB 7. I'm a happy camper now....using my Christmas blind. Now, I just have to wait for SKS 7 to come
OOPS! I just checked the USERS folder....at the very top of it, there are two folders with a bunch of files that are encrpyted that looks like the stuff from Impulse. Then, I did find a Stardock folder further down...it had a folder for Impulse there, but all of the folders inside were empty. I don't know how I missed that! I tried installing Impulse again this morning, but didn't get anywhere. However, I did find this error log dated for yesterday: -- [1
It can 'only' be something interfering with the install...such as an AV that is not actually off, or some other installed proggy that is conflicting. Either that or the OS [or you] cannot access the install files due to some permission issue.
I use Microsoft Security Essentials...and I turned it off....the flag was screaming at me! I even disabled the slides for the desktop and just put a static wall there instead. I ran the install both a
Jafo, I couldn't find any error log there either. The only error I found was for when my paint shop pro crashed on me...lol! I really didn't think there would be an error log anyway because Impulse never got installed. I only got as far as the location for Impulse...then I got the screen pop-up with the message noted above.
Jafo, I'll try that in the morning...my pc is already shut down for the day...I'm on my laptop. I'll post back here in the morning to let you know if I found anything there.
jazzy - Have you tried installing the full version of Impulse?
Yea, I did...I first tried the full install, since I didn't have anything on the drive. When that didn't work, I tried the update. The thing that bugsme is that I never got what file was that was in question. No error log at all. Impulse never installed.
The latest AVG update (free version) keeps periodically minimizing whatever current app I'm running. Rather than disable it while playing games, I just want to replace the damn thing. What's the best replacement for someone running XP? Free is a plus but not necessary.
I strongly suggest Microsoft Security Essentials. It is compatible with XP Service Pack 2, Vista, and Windows 7...and it is free! Here's the link to it: <a href="http://www.microsoft.c
I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials, and I have zero complaints. It's been put through a few tests and come out pretty high elsewhere, and it's free.
I, too, have been using Microsft Security Essentials....and I love it! It is not a system resource hog....it just sits there quietly doing its thing. I had been using AVG these past few years...but it got increasingly more bloated, to the point that I couldn't do a thing while it was updating.
I still have not been able to install impulse. Is there anyway I can download Windowblinds by itself? I can wait for Skin Studio, but I would like to be able to use my Christmas skin on my PC. This really sucks! If I knew that this was gonna be such an issue, with no apparant way to "fix" it, I would have waited longer to switch over to Windows 7! PS: I submitted a support ticket yesterday, but have not heard anything back yet.
Shirley, I ran that file and then tried the install again, and STILL got the same message!
Turning off UAC didn't change a thing...still get the same message as noted above! Grrrrrrr [e digicons]>:([/e]
Okay, I finally got to the link for the verifier. It says I have .Net 3.5, SP1 installed...so, that is not the issue. It also said I had .Net 2, .Net 2, SP1, and .Net 3 installed as well.
Doc, I tried the link you gave for the verifier, but the page never loaded....timed out, then another time, said the link was broken.
I already checked about the Mocrosoft.net Framework. I attempted to install it before I tried to install Impulse, and I got the message that it was already installed....however, I don't see it anywhere in my programs list or update list. So, I'm not sure.
Hey doc! Yea, my security stuff was off, I was logged on as Administrator. I clicked on the full install, since I had a clean drive, with no Stardock stuff on it. Here is the message I keep getting: The Setup Wizard for Impulse has failed: "The system cannot find the file specified". Please check your settings and try again . This is nuts! [e digicons]>:([/e]
I just upgraded my PC to Win7, doing a clean install. I cannot install Impulse...I keep getting the message that Impulse cannot find a required file (does not tell me what the file is). I tried installing Impulse from my Registrations page on my WC site, and also directly from the Impulse site. I get the same message both places. I also tried the download to my computer (save, then run) and the Run directly from both my WC page and the Impulse site. Help!!!!</p
Upon further investigation of other skins I am seeing that the code is not showing height and width for some odd reason it may be why I cant make the start panel compact. here is an example from my programs list left when I tried to manually add the demensions it crashed the program.
The sizes for each part of the start panel are set via the Extra tab for that image. When you click on the Extra tab, scroll down a bit until you find the Width and Height
Looking good! [e digicons]|-)[/e]
Congrats to all...very much deserved! :) A special shout-out to ED....Way to Go, my Friend!!!! :) :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT: :)
I get half the image I placed this in the more programs arrow because of a skin I was checking out had theirs set there only thing she has an image with 3 I only had one but I did use hers on mine and its the same it only shows 1/2 the image I looked to see if she had any setting in the paint margin thing and nope all set to zero I did same with my 1 ok hope you follow me I know I can confuse the greatest of minds lol, so now what to do?
<p
I don't really like the squareness of it I know I've seen other blinds that have an image in that area so I'm guessing thats the more programs background that I will need to play around with to get it looking more stylish.
In Vista, you can use a mouseover image. In XP, what I have done, was "fake" an image there. On the All Programs panel, I would actually draw the outline of a button there. Then when mousing over the All Programs panel, it looks like
Glad it worked for you...but, listen to vStyler too....it DOES affect other areas of the skin as well. Any more glitches, just post back here and we will help you sort it out. [e digicons]|-)[/e]
The All Programs mouseover in XP cannot be skinned. The mouseover background comes from the classic colors section. To get there: Change skin colours > look for the combo box there at the top, select Show skin defined colors > Menu Highlight. That will give you color for the background. The mousover text for the All Programs is from there as well: Selected item text.
did better than I thought I would....19 of 25...and I knew the Campbell Soup's colors!
