Why is voter turnout more problematic in the United States than it is in other Western Democracies? Many other Western style Democracies make voting in elections mandatory, notably Australia, Austria, Belgium, Greece and Italy. Registration laws in the US are more restrictive than in other countries. Western European countries incorporate voter registrati

obv But it is amusing.
Leonard's father has posted additional pictures on the family's web-site Link . I feel marginally less of a scumbag, as I've finally emailed Leonard's brother, my old friend Colby.
Bogis - I think there are enough Spider-fans that don't like Venom (and more that don't like Carnage) that this opinion may get taken into account. As far as Doppleganger goes, I had to google for him. As he is tied pretty specifically to the Infinity mini-series (-es?), I don't think he'd make it in. Besides, you're the one calling for something "different." How different is he than just Venom or Carnage (who are fairly similar, themselves). Addi
From AlJazeera Link : Jordan has pledged to send troops to Iraq if the interim Iraqi government makes a request. I recall comments to articles on this site that would regard Arab and Islamic countries involvement in the policing of Iraq as somewhat "more appropriate
According to the textbook Politics in America by Thomas R. Dye: "Fortune magazine sponsored a survey of more than 2,000 Washington "insiders," including members of Congress, their staffs, and White House officials, asking them to rank the most powerful lobbyists in the capital. The results were as follows: 1. American Association of Retired Persons 2. American Israel Public Affairs Committee 3. AFL-CIO 4. National Federation of
How can you tell that he had been banned? Besides the eery silence where I expected... well, not silence.
I've just realized that the article you posted (and correctly pointed me to, thanks) uses the New York Times as a reference. And you complain of me referencing CNN? This is a South African news agency? I guess the AWOL thing isn't really new news, tho, as it might've been interpreted as such when his captivity was announced: <a href="http://www.kltv.com/Global/story.as
I apologize for forgetting it was your SO. I knew that, I did... I know that they've been able to stop-loss soldiers that have had less than a month left on their contract. I know that doesn't reflect well on his current situation, and it's just one of those scary "sit-and-wait" situations. I'll keep my fingers crossed for him, and you.
Saint Ying - What does attaching purely political rationale to the bill calling for a draft have to do with your "point" over the soldiers "being 'redrafted' against their wishes?" Besides that you might be pointing out that the bill is simply as "evil" as the action of keeping soldiers in the service longer than they expected... And the military is prepared. Just try to keep us out of anything "stupid." kthx. Good point BakerStreet (wh
The exact version (or at least what the link leads to) is only the top 25 *wrestlers* with a listing for the top 10 women wrestlers (that's most of them, then? You still have Shaniqua on the list?).
SW - ... Do you know what I'm going to ask for? Can you guess it? CITE!?!? Anyway, CNN has a more conservative version of events, here: Link
There was a brief article around here yesterday that mentioned it; I found reference to it in a Houston paper (online) yesterday mid-day. Headline News (CNN) was running it as one of their "blurb" stories at the bottom of the screen as of last night. How much time do you have left on your contract?
It's hidden in the sub-title area. Please also note that it's impossible to tell (by font or other editing techniques, because they're not there ) where LTC North stops speaking, and ShadowWar begins. (It's just that last paragraph... I think. Or maybe SW doesn't speak at all? :not sure: ) ShadowWar, I've read some of your articles, and it addresses some points I'd like to read about, but I've mentioned this before. Please cite, and edit
Well, the first thing that comes to mind with "loss of trivial freedom" is having to get my ID checked at the gate to get onto post. We didn't instate that until... well, about 2 or 3 hours after the planes hit, right? ... You say there was an oporder laying that in already? That the military machine had already made contingency plans to make all posts closed? They had already done a practice run here on post? Well, that just proves that the g
Well, yeah. That's pretty much why many people think the whole thing is ridiculous. They're the same bullets, they're just made by a country that the group we may use them against doesn't like (yes, oversimplification). The only real reason for Arabs to bitch about it is that buying them in the first place can only strengthen our relationship with Israel. Besides, even if we use them only for training, doesn't that mean that the Jew has freed up
Which I believe that you have mentioned before (in comments, yes?).
First, the link: Link I've gotta figure out how to make that say something else... This is a fun little web-based MMORPG. It's free (at least for now), and doesn't make any attempt to take itself seriously. This is evidenced immediately by the character class selection: Seal Clubber, Turtle T
Because they have to be Kosher? Like the Hebrew National Hot Dogs... those're good eats, if you can get used to the non-chemical flavor. It was shadowwar who did a post on this... I think in the comments it was also said there was no physical defect or difference between the rounds.
I hadn't thought of the thing that bothered me most until greywar had pointed it out to me: While we did guard duty on the gates (from end of September 2001 until, when, mid-2003?), they started letting us carry our rifles, for a time, anyway. What they didn't let us carry was ammunition. (There was a point where we would have a magazine in the rifle, but that really didn't help.) Eventually, we couldn't take the rifles near the cars; I supp
Fair. I'll point out that greywar was helping with *my* evaluation, recently. Draw conclusions as you will; I'll draw mine with crayons.
I believe he had linked the definition for fulgration in a previous article. Regardless, you have divined the appropriate meaning for this instance.
I had never thought about this before. I guess in a DoD facility, they would get evaluated like all the other gov't employees. It does seem over the top, tho. BTW, "...urinal cleaning... ...brush..." Nicely done.
Just think, that's some of the more recent vivid imagery of the United States Army that he's taking over there with him. Foremost in his mind will not be Basic Training, or whatever train-up they gave him right before leaving, or any of the applicable safety briefs he will get on the way over... but instead, a Mississippi State Trooper gyrating on a chair, smacking his ass. That image will burn in his mind and be his sole reminder of home.<
Thursday is assenpfeffer's first day back from leave, actually. This potentially morale-crippling blow is somewhat softened by the fact that Negrodamus is teaching some weird class for training, and the day is immediately followed by a four day holiday. Had I but realized when I was planning my leave, however, I would have just taken Thursday off anyway.
