I run Windowblinds and the same stuff on a similar system to yours (P4 2.8, 1.5gig of ram) and find it actually starts faster than with the MSstyles which came with XP. However, running Sysmetrix at startup did slow me down some, so perhaps you could start this manually as clwoods suggested. Also, you could disable some of the unnecessary background services:ie, themes service and fast user switching, etc. Best of luck with it <img src="

Andrew...I use Xindows XP Professional SP2, but that's because it happens to be the most convenient OS for my needs. I am neither an advocate or a detractor of MS (nor Apple, Linux,etc). you might want to try starting in safe mode and going to control panel>internet options>programs>manage addons. when there, look for browser addons that you don't recognise as being legit and disable them before restarting normally. if you have a browser hijacker thats changing your ip addy, this should fix it, hopefully. had a similar prob myself and this did the trick. hope you sort it soon <img src="http://images.stardock.com/wc/smiles
