I wish they would myself- it's unneeded now for games. The only reason I see for them to keep it is if they have a fallback plan in case Steam goes full stupid/evil/bankrupt for some reason. Would allow them to redistribute the game on their own.

I think some of what you're running into then is the simultaneous turns, or the RAM limit slowing things down.
Maybe, and this is a big maybe- combats should only end with the destruction of one side if it gets destroyed in under x rounds? Another option is to give starports intrinsic attack/defense so that it takes a certain amount of fleet to kill the home system one at a minimum
My suggestion would be to allow fleets to defend starports. Any starbase or starport cannot be attacked unless the fleet is defeated first. Maybe being within a starbase/starpoint should eliminate the need for logistics. (also to prevent stacking 100 1-ship fleets as a delay tactic)
That is something that will be solved in future games when some of the tech Stardock does becomes more widespread (64-bit and multithreading) It is the reason I am passing on the next Civ game- I don't think they'll change the engine.
As for why you're finding this Steam Summer Sale disappointing (Referring to to posts above- too long to quote)- I suspect much of it is you've got everything you wanted on your backlog, so it's only newer stuff you're looking at, or things you are going to buy on sale only. Things like AOW3 for half off is pretty damn good given how new it is, or LH for 80% off. That said, I only spent $3.50 or so this far- Papers Please which I'm not feeli
Also, from a business point, in the digital age, staying power matters more than anything. There are forums (rpgcodex being the epitome of this) where clueless gamers talk about how crappy this game or that game is and how this game or that should have the features of some game they want not realizing that they are totally out of touch with what people actually want to play. Hence, I'd rather make a game that *I* li
GOG is probably the most suited of the DRM services to survive a Steam monopoly, because they offer something different. That said, there is a finite limit to their model. As long as it remains profitable, they're in good shape. I'm pretty sure they're making money.
There's no chance of Stardock starting another Impulse- it led to Stardock becoming overextended which hurt the quality of their core business. That said, I do think Impulse could have been what you described, but even then, it wouldn't have lasted, as Steam would eventually have scarfed up the indies, and Stardock couldn't compete on the AAA stuff (Brad gave some examples of this in the past). GOG could fill that niche well, and probably needs to give
If Stardock ever goes into the RTS area, it needs to be based on Kohan. That's a game no one has ever tried to make a spiritual sequel of, and I constantly hear people asking for a game like it despite its age and relative unpopularity. Also, the game will be friendlier to the 40+ crowd since it won't require 200 APM. I could even see a Kohan-style game in the Elemental world.
I'm at the point where these sales rarely do much for me. Everything old I want, I have. Everything new I already paid for, won't be on a big enough sale this time to get me to buy, or already has been on sale and I bought.
Quoting Frogboy, reply 158 I'd love to find a better unrest system for 4x games. Two related ideas: 1. Make expansion technology dependent. You can only maintain X cities until you research something to increase the number by X. 2. Reading about Endless Legend. If you raze a city, it causes the roads to it to disappear after a few turns due to decay. Cool mechanism for penalizing Razing.

I'd say unrest as implemented is pretty unfun. Maybe necessary to prevent overexpansion, but still unfun. Makes it where there is little point in taking cities instead of razing them
I'd love to see EU-style political events.
Age of Exploration/ Age of Expansion/Age of Elevation?
Just saw and bought.
That wouldn't solve anything- people generally don't build units much outside of fortresses.
- The lack of hard choices with the civilization aspect of the game. Reduce the amount of room I have or force me to make other difficult and unique choices. See Warlock 2 for *some* inspiration. Maybe even Endless Legend, it looks like. I'd like more info on this please.
Well, I'd say what type of city you build is a no-brainer choice, given how much emphasis is put towards quality o
You could always use the shipbuilder and make the fighters mecha. Carriers are planned to be implemented so might be able to get around it some. If you want mecha and have a PS3- look into importing Gundam extreme VS- hearing a lot of good about that (and it plays on American PS3's)
More ideas: Great Hail- fireball type spell for ice. In a 5*5 spot, you get x number of hits randomly in the grid Boiling Blood- +init to unit, unit takes damage each turn Cloudkill- poison gas cloud, does a good amount of poison damage and can stun enemy (strategic spell perhaps?) Acid Blast- direct damage spell for earth Wither- attempts to put an injury on a champion for the duration of combat (random)
Should starports require a troop transport to take them over/not be destroyable? At the very least, I think they should have starbase defenses that can be attached to it, with the home planet starbase getting some defenses at the start of the game (and they should have a good chunk of hp)
I'd like this as an option. Maybe as an economic bonus only.
Feral Mount- mounted units lose 50% att/def/movement Frostbite- unit takes x damage each time it attacks Sandspray- single-damage attack hits adjacent unit with a chance of blind Blade Barrier- unit gets +20 dodge vs missiles, opponents take damage when they attack unit Purifying Flame- unit loses 25% hp, gets cured of all maledicts
Probably going to pick up Endless Legend during its next steam sale. AOW III right now- though the game is starting to lose steam some. FE is still worth playing on occasion, that's it right now.
