Anyone know if the team was let go after the release as rumored?
I suppose the fact that Leviathan is a basic item on a serious social contract theory reading list could explain why someone would think it "proto-liberal." But when I read it three times in three years, I was undergoing a conversion from philosophical anarchism to representative democracy, so the power dynamics were the most important themes for me. That, and I never did take to Rousseau for some reason.
I'm confused then. I thought the poster you were recommending him
Have you really never read even the first half of Leviathan? Hobbes really seems like your sort of guy in many respects, being a miserable sod with some verbal flair and a tendency to theorize. Plus there's all that fun pre-dictionary-era spelling when he goes on about the "warre of all against all" and whatnot.
I don't really follow you here either. I'm all for interpretations of Hobbes as a proto-liberal exponent of limited government, but surely he's not more of a li
I don't care what people are trying to achieve, I care that they are using adequate means to achieve what they want. The government cannot guarantee healthcare even if it were desirable. People seem to think this is a post scarcity world. Think again.
I'm not arguing for or against government involvement in health care. Mellowe's point was that 'socialism' is politically unpopular. Obviously, that's correct. However, when you distance policy from the sociali
Okay, replace "socialism" with "collectivism," "welfare state," or "expanded entitlement programs" and you'll get the same response.
No, you're obviously right. Socialism is a dirty word. But take away the abstraction and ask whether Americans want, say, the federal government to guarantee health care for all Americans, and the response is somewhat different.
The free market and the United States Constitution are in essence "blind" agents. They do not suf
Most people (as in a plurality of citizens of the United States) do not want a system that is "more socialist." Politicians avoid the word "socialism" unless they are using it to tarnish an opponent. Americans respond negatively to the word.
Overemphasis on terms can be misleading. The majority of Americans support 'international cooperation' but not 'multilateralism'.
Do you rember Dark Reign?
Dark Reign was fantastic! :-p But I agree with the sentiment that there's only one SC2, and it isn't made by Gas Powered Games. I played Supreme Commander and didn't care for it. Tried the Supreme Commander 2 demo and also disliked it. But I thought that there were some improvements. The new tech system is much better than the old, all-or-nothing tier system, and the game length is shorter.
Heroes.
When neutrinos caused the Earth's temperature to cool... nobody thought it could happen... three more times . There's supposed to be some talk about a television spinoff, but nothing definite at this point.
How would you change it?
Well, for starters, erectile dysfunction wouldn't exist. World peace to follow...
And, do you ever take advantage of those meds?
Boner meds? Not yet. But I'm still young.
If you were the head of a pharmco, what would you spend your overhead on?
Luxury goods for the developed world. Actually, who am I kidding. A substantial part of it would go towards my salary/retirement package. And,
Removal before it metastasizes does not mean it wouldn't metastasize, intervention doesn't factor into the behavior of a disease left untreated. The context for the statement was rebuttal to a theory that cancer screenings catch cancers that will never metastasize, thus inflating the US survival rates.
Cheers. I read 'always metastasize' as 'always metastasize with or without treatment' rather than 'always metastasize irrespective of treatment'. I was involved in
Agree with those who don't want builder units. Click-and-drag seems to be the way to go. Also consider adding a spell that creates 'magical roads' that act like railroads/enchanted roads in Civ/MoM.
I didn't say it's never treatable, I said it always metastasizes.
Same difference. At least, where long term survivorship is concerned. The particular study I worked on dealt with locally-advanced (non-resectable but non-metastatic) pancreatic cancer. In about 25-30 percent of the cases, the cancer was successfully downstaged and removed. In the majority of those cases, the cancer didn't recur (ie. never returned, hence, didn't metastasize). Anyhow...
Explain, are you claiming pancreatic cancer doesn't always metastasize? From the research I've seen, 80% of the people diagnosed with it die inside a year because it's done so already, and of the remaining 20%, three quarters of them are toast inside five.
No, what you wrote is accurate nation-wide. I was reacting to the slightly exaggerated statement that pancreatic cancer is never treatable. Full disclosure: I used to have horses in this race. I spent som
That aint limited to south Florida. Sadly we'll all be learning how to speak Hatian here real soon too...
And Cuban and Dominican too!
I don't really know how many times people have to repeat themselves on this. City spam doesn't require essence, because restored land radiates outward from existing cities. Rushing cities quickly requires essence, after that in the restored area you can build as many as you want without essence.
No, no. I 'get' that. The problem is that there's currently nothing else to do with essence or your sovereign besides rushing cities quickly. And nothing to do with
Right now it seems like they're spammable because players have nothing else to do with essence. What we really need are competitors for that.
As far as I can tell, the dollar is nowhere near as bad as the Euro.
The Eurosocialists disagree , but what do they know about exchange rates. [e digicons]:|[/e]
Something like pancreatic or colon cancer always metastasizes, and the US spanks Europe on those too.
That's not true. :-p
This is going to be a fantastic year and a half for strategy gaming! Starcraft II, Elemental, Civilization V, hopefully Kings and Castles, Disciples III... [e digicons][/e]
Looks awesome. Wish I had a key.
[e digicons] Player versus world. Diverse winning conditions. Simplicity.
I tried it. I'm not a fan. I really do like the standard formula, and CNC was one of the few series that, up until this point, didn't fetishize change.
The simple truth is that enviros don't want green power, they want no power and massive population reduction combined with zero population growth. They frequently block plans for green power plants based on concerns over habitat distruction, and and other environmental impacts. And if you think there's no wildlife/habitat concern in the desert, then my friend, you've never lived in the desert. And I gotta say most of it ain't real pretty but gosh darn it it was there
Pshh. The fluoride was put there by the Russians.
