I asked the same question on the galciv boards (www.galciv.com).. Everyone pretty much said to play Alt prophecy because all it does it add stuff.. You can still play regular random maps just the same as the original, but it does have a campaign as well.

As long as an event is Athletic and competitive then theres no real reason why it can't be in the Olympics. I too don't get sports like synchronized anything and all the rhythmic stuff, but they're in the winter Olympics too (ice dancing????!!! wtf?) so they're here to stay. Thanks for the info. I've been playing GalCiv 1.21 for quite a while now. Still trying to figure out how to stop from going to -500 in debt and going straight downhill from there :( I'll switch over to AP and give that a try.

I just downloaded GalCiv 1.21 and Altarian Prophecy 1.51. My question is which should I play? Are they really that much different? I know AP has campaign play while Gal Civ does not, but does AP have everything else that Gal Civ has, just updated? If so, then theres no reason to play Gal Civ 1.21 right? Thanks for info.

I actually played the last campaign trying to win without New York or California (playing as Republican Bush). In the games I won, it seems California is always the deciding votes so I wanted to try and win without it. Anyways, that didn't work.
