What is it? An IconPackager theme? DesktopX objects? whatever it is, you need the application it was made for. So if it's an IconPackager theme, you need IconPackager, etc. You can buy a membership to ObjectDesktop there, or download a demo of its most popular applications: http://www.objectdesktop.net

You don't need anything but the regular version of DesktopX (although I really don't know if the trial version is crippled or not - sorry) and your favorite bitmap editor (Photoshop), although I do start with Flash to create my objects's animations sometimes. An object is all but either a BMP or a PNG. I suggest using 24 bits PNG with alpha blending. This way you can create very easily degrees of transparencyt and somehat of a antialiasing around your objects. So, since you said you master P

I can't find the registry entry you need to change, but you can download and install this tiny utility (4k) called Disappear ftp://ftp.creativelement.com/pub/win95ann/disappr.zip

There are several program that let you do that. Windowblinds has an option for that. Otherwise, there is a registry hack you can do, but playing in the registry is not recommended unless you really know what you're doing.

This may sound stupid, but "Print Sceen" key on your keyboard. Then just paste into a new document in Photoshop or your favorite graphics app. Otherwise if you want more flexibility, I like Snagit from TechSmith: http://www.techsmith.com

That's if you want to actually USE the skin. If all you want is extract the graphics, you can just rename the .wba extension to .zip and unzip the usual way.

I asw that Windows 2000 also has a compatibility tab. When you in Properties of a shortcut, you can run the app in compatibility mode, you then have the choice in the dropdown menu for Windows 95 compatibility layer, Windows 98 compatibility layer, or Windows NT4 SP5 compatibility layer. I don't know if it works, I only tried it on one program so far and it didn't do anything.

Crae: "The masses are to dumb to walk around unguided." But, they are the ones this site is for though... Without anybody to download, we're just a bunch of losers tooting each other's horn. Jafo: Does that mean that if a citizen doesn't leave enough comments he should be demoted to visitor?

But please do consider, in future versions, adding alpha blending to the icons, if it can be done!!! That is one feature I've always wanted for Themebar.

Hehehe, Andrew, I'm sure it will. But you know what, I bet that if we were to meet some day, we'd probably be friends. We're more alike than we'd like to admit it. We just have different opinions, but I do have great respects our Frogguy.

Hum... Brad, you hit the right nerve. The last thing I want is give people more work because of whatever beef I have for or against anything. From now on, consider me as any regular Joe please. I don't want any special treatment, neither good or bad.

Yes, as kenray said, a software is just a software. It's how comfortable you feel with a given one. Most people use Photoshop, some use PaintShop Pro, some use the Gimp. The quality of the work is ralely subject to the software you use. Paul Boyer, proabably the top DesktopX designer, uses Corel exclusively and swears only by it. So it's all a matter of personnal tastes, and budget of course.

Frogboy, I entirely agree with you. What I said is you can easily filter out the Britney stuff by simply rejecting copyrighted stuff, as you already do. And I even agree with creaming off the lesser good stuff. We only disagree on who decides what is good and what is bad. I say the masses decide, therefore a skin that doesn't get enough downloads could get deleted or sent waaay in the back of the queue.

I guess I don't see things the same way as most here do. I used to have a skin - one of my firsts - that I thought was kinda bad. But it was getting constant downloads over at Skinz.org, so although I was temted to delete it, I left it up because some people apparently liked it. So why should I judge their taste and basically tell them "Well, you got no taste. I think it sucks so you can't have it." Anyway, even if I agree some things are unoriginal and distasteful, I can't presume to have a
